    And those people who go on to say that "not all men discourage their partners from working", women have also dealt with sexist adds for ages. In India, most adds for washing powders, or cooking spices feature women as housewives. Even chocolates and burgers adds are made alluring because some show women undressing. But on the other hand, adds advertising banks, or insurance policies mostly feature men. No one seems to have a problem with that!

    • @FizaMishraGilmorePotterGomez
      @FizaMishraGilmorePotterGomez Před 7 lety +15

      Knight Rider That isn't what I meant - I completely agree with you. All I was trying to say is that-
      a) Objectifying women to sell a product is just wrong. Who are they trying to sell- a chocolate or a woman?
      b) It has been far too long seeing women portrayed as housewives and things that exist just to serve and submit. I agree, times are changing and slowly, people are changing the way we look at women and men. However, in most advertisements (cooking commercials) or TV serials (Hindi ones, mostly), there is always a woman cooking the food and serving it to her family members. And in most insurance ads, a man is featured, talking about how, as the primary caregiver, it is his responsibility to take care of his family.
      Of course, as long as women are doing whatever they are doing by choice, it is perfectly fine- their life, their choice. However, diversity is necessary in these times. Women and men need to step out of their limited gender identities and do what they feel like. And according to me, all the ads we see on television do not promote those ideals.

      @aditieliser.889 Před 7 lety +11

      Well said, Fiza. Since the beginning of advertisement, women have been placed in ads and commercials in ways that make them subordinate to men. Today, advertisers present to the consumer what they believe he/she wants to see, disregarding they may be overdoing a stereotype started years ago.

    • @aditieliser.889
      @aditieliser.889 Před 7 lety +9

      Advertising's approach to 'attractive women' is sensual/sexy. It reduces women to objects and de-emphasizes individuality. In recent years, a 'new woman' has emerged. She is liberated and owes her independence and confidence to the products she uses. These new images do not represent any real progress but rather create a myth of progress. Sadly enough, women buy that myth.

    • @aditieliser.889
      @aditieliser.889 Před 7 lety +8

      A woman's worth should never be measured by the height of her dress, the neckline of her shirt or height of her shoes. Regardless of the 'measures', the woman wearing them is still an individual and should be treated as such. If a woman views her body as healthy, strong, and considers highlighting her physical attributes an intrinsic part of her identity, then so be it!

    • @aditieliser.889
      @aditieliser.889 Před 7 lety +7

      I hear you. There is a thin line between having an attitude/arrogance and confidence. Both arrogant and confident women have a strong belief in their own abilities. They have a positive and optimistic vision that makes them strong and admirable. However, true confidence exudes grace, composure and the ability to shine without arrogance.

    I really love this ad and its meaning. They aren't saying all men are regressive terrible people but are using him as a stand in for how society overall feels about women working after marriage. I live in America and I know that isn't a big issue for me but at the same time I see friends and family in India that are expected to do exactly that and have done so due to pressure. On the other hand I have see the other half of this as well with a supportive husband helping his wife become successful and run the household in partnership happily there.
    Men instead of taking offense to this please take a moment to understand this is how the women in your life might feel and give them support and educate people around you to do the same.

      Dumb shit. Women can just choose to stay single instead of marrying men and making them do things they were not designed for.
      This all is happening due to a few loser men who simply can't accept that economy has changed and now most jobs are sales and women can now work too.
      Men should either become millionaires and then marry or marry a poor village woman.
      Making educated women housewives doesn't make any sense.
      Only women who have shit btech degrees from third grade colleges can become housewives becuse they would be much better than doing some shitty 15 k job

We may not, or rather never, open up to the concept of a Stay at home Dad, but atleast we must accept that women today are independent and worthy of making their life choices. The ad merely symbolises that strong women choose titan raga. I don't see why anyone must feel emasculated by this ad. Come on people. Homo sapiens includes women too. Let them be awesome as well! It is really sad to see few people are able to see this ad in a negative tone.
    Being a male myself I see no objection, this ad questioned the thought of those males only who believe themselves superior to women. True every male is not like that. This ad is only questioning that herd mentality which was very strong few years back and still holds that idea in the heart of many males. Raga has shown elegantly the way for women to unleash their independence by answering a simple question to the male of such mentality. Now coming to the intention whether it was all about selling watches under the garb of a beautiful thought, I believe Raga took a bold step to break the last straw of such existing mentality among many ( note not all and that mentality is on decline day by day). For me if brand Raga holds such an intolerance, even towards the miniscule presence of that old mentality then I see it as a great brand. I mean no disrespect to any and I hope that the audience will try to like the
    idea of underlying thought. #RagaBeautiful

    Thank you for once again reminding everyone that "marriage" isn't everything, especially for a WOMAN. She is free to make her life choices, and no one should meddle with what she eventually decides. India still has a long way to go when it comes to this mentality and accepting the fact that a woman can lead an independent life. The image of a dependent woman is so ingrained in our psyche, nobody seems to want to accept her new image. I see many unhappy women being forced to marry and bear children when they weren't ready for it and lament about their career later on, blaming their marriage that they couldn't achieve more. Children growing up in such families get affected too, they don't get the love and attention from their parents, there is no BONDING. I have personally seen mothers struggling, eventually having to give up their jobs so that they could stay closer to children. The "man" in the family has to WORK, WORK and only WORK but a woman's say about her career is thrown out of the window. Its SEXISM, that's what it is. I applaud Titan for making this ad, I hope this is seen on TV soon so that many more families can see this!

      Yes, she can be both, just like most men are. Working and have a relationship/family. But maybe they both had very demanding jobs and neither were willing to cut back. Usually, women are asked to give up career for relationship/family but men are not. This woman didn't do that. It's a message to other women that you don't have to give up your career always, it's your choice. Maybe another man, another relationship will happen in future. Hello Everyon,e American here. Can someone explain to me why many Indian people seem to just use their native language or only English but they go back and forth and it seems theyre fluent in both. Why not just use one? Thank you very much.

      Good question
      Very small population is fluent in both. And they think they are using it as a tool against those who can't speak English.
      Those fools think they look intelligent if they speak a foreign language among people who understand and speaks native language much better

    This shows of a woman who is modern, progressive, confident and passionate and a MAN who is rude, backward, incompetent and is not passionate about love, life and everything. Not all men ask women to quit their job.

      Mani T If you want me to list the number of ads and movies that offend women, it'll take all your life. This exists. It also exists in not very overt ways. It is an implicit expectation that the woman's life is not as important.

    • @lifemagnet
      @lifemagnet Před 9 lety +7

      Mani T I don't think you should be offended because this ad is not targeting men like you, but those who expect a highly qualified woman to not have her own ambitions and goals. As women, we come across such men daily . We also come across men like you who support women's choices but sadly they are few and not very common. I think this ad does a great job at highlighting that, in a subtle way.

      The couple in the ad r divorced and accidentally met at the airport lounge. Both of them r successful professionals. The former wife asks the former husband, "How r U?". In response the former husband says,"Just as u left me". The man, still harboring feelings for her ex , says to her "We could have make our marriage work ...only if u quit your job". The Lady says 2 him that he could quit his job either. In response, the man tries 2 explain that his was a "Different" case as a MAN cannot quit his job (Showing his "Male Chauvinistic" attitude). The lady smiled sarcastically and said,"U were right. U r just same as i left u" (meaning that his mentality hasn't changed a bit but she is at peace and happy with her single status) The moral of the ad, "Long Live Female Emancipation" and "Male Dominance" Down Down. .................:-)

      Good explanation but the ad does not implicate they were divorced. In fact, he looks at the card and says, "and you're still not married'.
      They were old friends/lovers. She rejected him because he did not believe in gender equality.

    My question is how many women will accept a man with no job..?? How many women will take the position of the breadwinner of a family/relationship..? Here he said "how can a man quit his job" is a question tagged to male gender by the society just like they assume that a woman should quit her job for a relationship.. If a man quit his job then he will be labeled as nikkamma asap.

      I don't think it's ego, if a man thinks it's only the woman's job to compromise, then it's better that she parted ways with that man. She is better off without him. It's not a healthy relationship when one thinks he/she is better than the other. She might have been in the relationship but at a terrible price of her self respect and self worth and been unhappy, atleast inside.
