    I hope this is the last question :-/ Today I set up my Piuma for the first time - I mounted the speed bar (as I know it from other gliders) with direction about 5 degrees up; a colleague asked if it shouldn't be mounted showing about 5 degrees down; in the video I can't really exclude the one or other possibility. I am a little insecure because my WW-Flex2 harness just scratches over the speed bar -should be changed.
    Everything else went -thanks to your guide - perfectly well... :-)

    • @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding
      @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding  Před 2 lety

      Hi Olaf, no problem ;-)
      The bar must be mounted with the Icaro2000 logo up ( so when the glider it's ready the center of the bar is lower), you can't do it wrong knowing this. The bar is designed to remain at the same distance from your chest during the side movements.

    Great video,I just received a new Puima and wondered if you would post a video of breaking down the glider and method for folding the sail.After folding the king post I have tension from the luff lines and the packing from the factory looked like sail was flaked

    • @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding
      @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, I'm working on it right now. Keep in mind that at the beginning it's a bit difficult to fold the sail due to the stiffness of the fabric but it gets easier by the way

  • @victorplanellas2982

    Great video! Just couple of questions Andrea: Are the front tip of each batten (curved-shaped ones) fitted over the leading edge, or the leading edge bars work as a stop when you introduce every batten? Do the leading edge bars havean ellyptcial or circle-like shape, I could see it properly. If I didn't explain myself just ask me.
    Thanks in advance!

    • @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding
      @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding  Před 2 lety +1

      Battens are fitted inside a specific pocket which also work as a stop, the tip is positioned in front of the leading edge tube.
      The leading edge tube have a circular section.
      If I didn't get the point, just write me again

  • @justinf1343

    Does the PXB sailed glider differ in feel or have lower durability than the Dacron? I really like the configuration of the glider in this video. Is it 2 * Dacron panels and 2 * PXB on the upper surface?
    Can you also tell me whether the winglets make any difference and if so, what is their purpose.
    Thanks

    • @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding
      @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding  Před rokem +1

      Well, of course Pxb have lower durability than Dacron but it may longer than technora ( which is lighter and more inelastic). I really love too the aesthetics of this glider...
      Winglets actually works but the difference it's very very tiny, I think only an instrument can tell the difference.

    is this hang glider good for dune gooning??

  • @olafpeter8625
    @olafpeter8625 Před 2 lety

    Another question: I would be afraid that the battens in the middle might loose their shape earlier because the cross bar / sail is already tightened. pushing them in with tightened sail might cause some resistance which influences the form, doesn't it? The manual says first to put in the battens and then tighten the cross bar. -
    What is your experience? Do you have to correct the shape of the battens? - If this doesn't matter I would better do it your way of course - easier and much more 'elegance' :-)

    • @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding
      @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding  Před 2 lety

      Hi Olaf, there's absolutely no problem ( except for the tandems ).
      My battens are in pristine shape after years of intense use. So don't worry, just push gently and keeping the rear batten end near the ground while you insert or take it out.

      @@AndreaGhidiniHangGliding thanks -sounds good! :-)

  • @olafpeter8625
    @olafpeter8625 Před 2 lety

    Why do you remove the rear protection of the keel tube so early? Shouldn't this be almost the last to protect the tube as long as possible?
    Everything else looks extremely logically and great - will try to do it like this in the future!

    • @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding
      @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding  Před 2 lety

      Hi Olaf, because that it's actually a sail protection, its work is preventing the dirt on the keel to transfer on the sail when you pack the glider. So the correct use it's to remove it before the keel touches the ground when you set up and put in back after the keel is lifted from the ground when you pack up.
      My set-up and packing methods comes from my instructor, which works for Icaro2000. Obviously something can change from how they do it in the factory but this video is really close to it

    That glider looks sweet, but I can't see the point in high performance elements in a single surface wing. I'd rather get dacron sail, square tips and string batten locking for half the price and triple the duration! Just my rant hahah

    • @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding
      @AndreaGhidiniHangGliding  Před 2 lety

      Hi Érico, I can understand your point but don't agree with it.
      I think that every sport equipment (bicycles, running shoes, scuba equipment, soccer balls and so on) must evolve, in both performance and design, even if it's a basic one.
      Imagine if no class-1 HG would have been upgraded since hang gliding it's born, why stop now?
      About the sail, the one shown here it made out of PXB, that compared to Technora ( low weight and high eleastic module racing sail ) is less expensive ( the sail upgrade costs 50% less than Technora) and more durable ( anti-UV treatment and more elastic fibers ).
      obviously this is just my personal view.

      @@AndreaGhidiniHangGliding damn true! And slow. But they are dirty cheap and keep running decades later :D
      The (currently) only brazilian maker is making some, thick dacron, round tubes... actually a late 80s project. They are very fine and getting lots of people into the sport affordably around here. €1350~ brand new, pick colours, I sold mine for half that 60 hours, got a friend in the air. I've tried a falcon4 and in the air they fly the same really.
      Maybe wings like those could help HG revival, and current factories could still offer fancy single surfaces for seasoned pilots looking for easy landings.
