i don't know why his country of origin is so highly debated. he is a direct descendant of Sultan al-Atrash who led a revolt from Syria because he was Syrian. the al-Atrash family is well known in Syria because of their history and the mark they made in Syrian politics. there is nothing to debate. this man was Syrian. period.

He was awarded so many times, Especially in Turkey in 1964 and after he said to be "the king of oud" Those takassim are taken from Awel hamsa song.. Farid is used to play oud before beginning any song.
This gentleman is just incredible. I would be scared to see what would happen if his band kicks in. I would also like to credit him for mastering the only curved neck I have ever seen on a stringed instrument! He beat Dr Suess to the punch!
