    Nice vid! Just a quick note, the white hot or black hot setting is always looking for heat. The black hot is just the inverse of white hot and makes it sometimes easier to see targets depending on background. It’s not looking for cold targets.

    • @deephack
      @deephack  Před 2 lety

      This setting is called the "tracking polarity" and in the manual it states "The Maverick composite
      video is only displayed in White Hot mode. Therefore, when the display indicates “TRACK WHT”, the
      missile will track on the hot (white) target when it is commanded to track. When the format indicates
      “TRACKL BLK”, the missile will track on the cold (black) targets."

    • @Night_Geist
      @Night_Geist Před 2 lety

      @@deephack that is strange verbiage for sure. If it’s calling the color black on the display as “cold” I guess that makes sense but the temperature of what is being looked at is hot. It’s how FLIR works whether on the plane or mounted rifle scope. You can switch or invert the color scheme for what hot objects look like through the display. Some even allow a sepia color scheme or highlight the top 10% of hot objects with a different color. Even in DCS you can see as you switch back and forth that the hot objects are the color chosen.
      Which manual are you talking about? They should probably be more clear.

    • @deephack
      @deephack  Před 2 lety

      I think you're mistaking the "White hot" and "Black hot" modes of a FLIR sensor with this Maverick specific feature which is called "Track White/Black". I'm referencing page 273 of the DCS F/A-18C Early Access Guide . Section is named Tracking polarity.

      @@deephack I read it and it sounds like what you are saying but doesn’t work that way in game and as far as I know irl either. I’m wondering if they misrepresented it. Either way, interesting find in the manual!

      That I don't know about. I don't have any information on how they work IRL. Fly safe!

    If your left MFD TDC Mav slew isn't working; go into settings, F18, and de-select "Realistic TDC Slew".

    Your fov button always prioritizes the tpod over the maverick, thats why you shouldnt have your tpod up if you wanna change the maverick's fov with the button

    i am extremely frustrated that when i slave the mav to the atflir, i cannot un-slave it. so once i've hit whatever is immediately under the waypoint, i can no longer fire mavericks. also, i can neither zoom the maverick nor the atflir, absolutely infuriating.

  • @bartbroekhuizen5617
    @bartbroekhuizen5617 Před 6 měsíci

    What i noticed many times is when i try to use the TPOD and slave the maverick to that point and designate that target point, the maverick wont properly lock on that specific point i'm targeting which results the maverick hitting other stuff than i intended. Any tips to avoid this issue? I found the Maverick F lock on the F-18C very unpredictable compared to the Maverick F on the Harrier. I have a feeling the seeker head has a better resolution on the Harrier then on the F-18C.

    • @deephack
      @deephack  Před rokem

      If the engine isn't running, they haven't moved or fired then you may struggle. Missions should be designed with this in mind, move the vehicles a bit first or click the option for them to start hot.

    • @deephack
      @deephack  Před rokem

      Greater stand off range if you need to fly low, also it is fire and forget like a JDAM unlike a LGB.

      @@deephack Yeah, we're on the same page, if you're flying under the outter bit of Large sam engagement zones you can lode mavericks in etc.
      thats the main advantage i can see. can only carry one per hard point though

    Trying to come to grips with this difficult process. Why the use of "Nosewheel Disengage" control? Is that normal procedure for this missile, or just your preference?

    • @deephack
      @deephack  Před 2 lety +1

      The nosewheel steering button is also an undesignate control in most aircraft. I need to undesignate in order to be able to slew the ATFLIR as it has slewed to a waypoint in this example.

      Have you selected the display with the TGP as your sensor of interest. You can do this by pressing sensor select in the direction of the display, you will then get a diamond on the top right corner of the display.

      It seems my first missile auto uncages and the next requires a manual uncage. Between that and my LTD always going off it becomes confusing quickly, lol.

      In the AGM-65F "mission" (the one that gives you two F and two E Mavs to kill a couple tanks encircled by monoliths) I noticed that I couldn't uncage the missile. Turned out (besides being on wrong DDI) to be that I didn't have AG mode selected (still in NAV mode).
