    I just ran across Taiyo a few weeks ago and took a chance on Tokyo These Days. The simple story. The art. Can't say why, but I instantly fell in love with it. I am not a lifelong manga reader. This book was my entry into it, but I am obsessed with reading more. Thanks for this video!

    I also heavily reccomend Zero, basically one of his most obscure works ever but surprisingly easy to get into. Similar to Ping Pong it's a sports manga but more to revolves around boxing

    I should have bought tekkonkinkreet two years ago! I refuse to pay reseller prices when I know these books are not OOP

    Got into Matsumoto through the Ping Pong anime, and I can't wait to read some of these. Hoping to start with the Ping Pong manga and Tekkonkinkreet. I hadn't heard until watching this video that we're finally getting a new printing of No 5, so I might get that before Tekkonkinkreet. I also somehow didn't know there was a Tekkonkinkreet movie, what?!

      I recommend going on the movie before reading the books, the book is a hard one to read, but it gets easier if you saw the movie

    Sadly Tekkonkinkreet wasn't my cup of tea. I felt like I need to be drunk to understand it sadly. Especially since here in Germany we have a really nice HC edition of it, which actually sold really badly.
    I still try to get into his works. I guess my next try will be either ping pong or sunny, since they sound more like titles I could get into.

    I nearly have it all including Gogo Monster. Just missing Blue Spring

    Very good video! I've been working through Matsumoto's catalog recently and he's already become one of my favorites with Ping Pong and Cats of the Louvre. Just found a copy of Blue Spring and I'm looking forward to getting Sunny early next year!

    I’m can’t decide which one to get
    Which one is the overall best of his work just curious

    • @nlardy
      @nlardy Před 2 lety

      Which one did you get or still deciding?
      I watched Tekkonkinkreet and was considering its manga, but it seems OOP by now.
      Considering No. 5 now as a first Taiyo Matsumoto read because of action/sci-fi ...and read somewhere that artwork is better than e.g. Ping Pong.
      Plus, one should t judge a book by its cover but the No. 5 Viz covers look so goooood :)
