  • Today we tried our hand at the Creality CR-Scan Lizard Kit. After quickly picking up interest with their successful Kickstarter campaign, Creality have managed to create an affordable 3D scanner that turns practically any object into a digital 3D model. The Lizard was built for the average user as it’s largely automatic, scanning a whole variety of objects without the need for marking dots. What's more, it even works in handheld mode, letting you convert your desired object directly into an editable 3D model no matter how big or small the subject is. Again, we tested what it can do from the perspective of a beginner, trying out how easy it it to use and finding out what obstacles there are to using to before you buy! Check out the full video here to see how we got on!

I purchased it to aid with prototyping. A few people have started making more detailed video-series on how to use the scanner. I would recommend the channel, Finite Projects, who have been using it to 3d print replacement parts.
The default profile is not included on the USB drive, as I believe it is still in development and will be updated over time, whilst newer builds of the scanning software are released. As for scanning larger objects, multiple scans of an object are recommended to merge point-data and get a cleaner digital model.

Looks interesting, much cheaper than the usual industrial scanners. Nice review 👍🏻

Thanks for the video, It would have been nice to see a show reel of good and failed scans of most of the subjects you scanned at the end of the video. It would have helped me to visualize what does and doesn’t scan well and the details it can capture in different scenarios .

Hi! Thanks for watching, its always helpful to get some feedback. I did show quite a few of the failed scans throughout the video but if it helps, it did struggle to scan small details like the Lego figure and detail on a smooth surface like a sticker for example would need the colour scanner kit which is a step up from the premium kit we have here. If you have any specific questions, please let me know and I'll answer them as best I can.

@@BoxCoUk thanks for the reply! I typically use photogrammetry to scan objects, but I’d like something to scan smaller parts easier and more accurately. I tried the creality cr-scan01, but it didn’t scan that great, and the software wasn’t great, I was hoping this one would be an improvement over that model. Have you used the cr-scan01, or have one to compare it to? Also, how small of a object have you scanned? Did it scan that object well? One other question, for hand held scans how is the registration if you need to flip over the object or move the device away and come back to it? Thanks!!!

Hello. I have this scanner and it does not scan black objects. Can you write how you did it?

Hi! I just used a lot of light and scanned the rotating base first before scanning the object and it came out quite clear. It's supposed to be quite good at scanning black objects according to the specifications 👌

I have this scanner and have had almost no success with it, black is impossible, anything shiney is impossible.
Not very pleased at this point
