    I also find it incredibly ironic that Maso's gripe with a show based on a character that had almost no character development over three movies, is that it introduced a lot of characters who were given almost no character development. This isn't a criticism of Maso, his gripe is legit, I just thought it was funny

      Boba Fett was only really in Empire Strikes Back, then Lucas immediately ruined him in Jedi after he became a fan favourite character without his permission. But I’d say that in just ESB, where he had 4 lines and like 3 minutes of screen time, Fett still got more characterisation than anyone in the prequels (ie a dark reflection of Han Solo, a cynical gun-for-hire who only cares about money, and who even Darth Vader can’t intimidate). It’s a shame that we’ve never seen that version of the character again

    • @jimjam7928
      @jimjam7928 Před 2 lety +1

      @@philcorrigan5641 Lucas ruined Boba Fett in ROTJ by not understanding his appeal, then ruined him even further in the Prequel Trilogy by trying and failing to understand his appeal. Now we're left with a character that barely even resembles the original Boba Fett.
      They should have just let Timothy Olyphant play the character, screw the prequels and their stupid clones plot.

    In the original comics of Moon Knight he was Marc Spector, and he would disguise himself as different characters in order to gain information. He would also, of course, don the Moon Knight costume to fight the baddies. But, in later years the comic creators decided to make those characters(he disguised as) into separate alters of Marc Spector(this included Moon Knight), which meant he had Dissociative Identity Disorder

    Boba should have just been a sheriff, coming out from the desert, realizing that the corrupt he was working for, just leave everyone out to dry, so he is going to start cleaning up. Keep all the tuskan stuff, just the town he steps into is full of poor with some elites who take the money from everyone. The people start to love him because they were all being shook down and now none of that gets to happen. Who ever is good gets shaken down, who ever is bad does the shaking down and Boba just steps between, getting into gun fights as (eventually) sheriff.

    • @TheDelinear
      @TheDelinear Před 2 lety

      Totally agree, pit Boba as the one wanting to clear up crime, instead of the one who wants to be in charge of crime, and suddenly the skeleton of a show we got actually makes sense. It feels like they stuck themselves between a rock and a hard place. They couldn't have Boba remain a bounty hunter, because there's already a show about a Mandalorian bounty hunter, but then they didn't want to make him the good guy either for some reason, perhaps because that's Cobb Vanth's character. So instead they made him want to be the guy who is in charge of the crime, but also whenever he had a difficult choice in the show he almost universally chose the morally good option. I mean, even that dichotomy could have been interesting if they'd explored it through more characterisation, but instead it's just a thing that happens that nobody even seems to acknowledge (like, Shand always wanting to go the violent root never once questions if Boba is cut out for the job when he constantly refuses).

    • @TheDelinear
      @TheDelinear Před 2 lety +1

      I guess they wanted the scene of him in the tank at the end to be some big surprise, but was anyone really surprised? Even in the previous episode when he was shot once in the shoulder while the other guy was shot like three times, and Bane didn't bother to double tap, it was clear that Vanth wasn't going to be dead. The fact that the Weequay guy worded his line so weirdly to avoid saying he was dead just made it even more obvious. The only surprising thing was that he wasn't there for the big final fight. I feel like that would have been a better use of his character than a post credit setup for something else.

      They really missed a trick. If he's fixing up vehicles like a mechanic, they could have riffed on the Hawkeye story "My Life as a Weapon" and called the show "My Life as a Tool". It works on two levels, firstly as a Hawkeye parody of someone who fixes things instead of killing people, but also because irl he's apparently a bit of a tool.

    Before The Mandalorian I was all for seeing Boba Fett return. I remember being very excited about the rumors going around about James Mangold potentially making a Boba Fett movie in the style of Logan. But The Mandalorian in a lot of ways is what I wanted from that without the baggage of two trilogies worth of backstory. So now that we have a show about an arguably better version of Boba Fett I don't really want or need a show about the inferior original. He was better off staying a side character in Din Djarin's story.

  • @TheDelinear
    @TheDelinear Před 2 lety +1

    I feel like Book of Boba would have made more sense if Boba was running for mayor or sheriff and his deal was kicking the criminals out. Why did he want to be a crime lord in the first place? He seems to objectively dislike crime, or rather he took a very morality-based stance on it (i.e. stealing water to survive is fine, selling spice is bad, etc). He seemed to always be choosing the Paragon option instead of Renegade, and the existing mayor is in deep with the mob bosses and the spice runners, so have it be about Boba trying to clean up the town and it suddenly makes a bit more sense.
    He might also have convinced more of the people of Mos Espa to help him fight if that was his deal. It felt really jarring that nobody from the actual city he was defending bothered to join the fight (apart from his mod gang) and yet the people from a completely different city came to help. They could have had a real "You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us" moment where it looks like Boba is outnumbered and outgunned and the people come swarming from their homes to help.
    Having Boba clearly working for the city, instead of the morally dubious goal of being a crime lord (dubious in the sense that he doesn't do much crime but he's still claiming that title) would have made the end scene where he's walking down the street more meaningful too. Like, everyone is bowing their heads to him and we're meant to imply that they respect and admire him, but he's still the crime lord who is using the threat of his position of power to extract money from them? So isn't it just as likely that they're bowing to him out of fear? Especially since, from their point of view, he's the guy who let his rancor run rampant through the town, tearing down buildings, they're probably terrified.
    Make his goal to become mayor/sheriff so that he can protect the people from the kind of criminals who killed his adoptive tribe, and suddenly you remove the weird ambiguity in the story.

    I believe the deal the Netflix made was incredibly favorable for Marvel/Disney because they made it in 2012-13, the moment the world realized that these movies were going to be billion dollar checks 2-3 times a year. Also, Netflix was looking to expand its credibility past a few hit shows. Aaaaaand, Marvel was still snake bit from letting popular characters stay under other companies banners in perpetuity. Under those circumstances, it makes a lot of sense for both parties for Marvel to basically rent out some b-list but recognizable New York based low power characters with a reversion clause that comes up well after they did the job that Netflix needed them for, but still soon enough for Marvel to build on their stories and characters and to have ownership of the shows in case this whole "streaming content" thing doesn't really pan out...

    Book of Boba Fett, like most people, I didn't like it but after going back and re-watching The Mandalorian episodes Boba Fett in them, you can see what they were trying to do, it was a failure but I understand what they were trying.
    He shows up he's still a bad ass but he's changed, he has a new stick and out of character he keeps his promise to Mando to help the kid, the old Boba would have only been interested in money. So they were trying to explain the moral he now has (from the tribe) and how he want to be more than a bounty hunter now, plus showing how he escaped from the sarlac pit. They wanted to give him "Character growth"
    But how can you give him Character growth when he wasn't much of a character to begin with!
    He has like 5 minutes total in the original star wars.
    I think most people wanted the old BF, a prequel to the original star wars BF would have hit the mark more. In the original star wars we wanted to know more about him, he was mysterious. so show how he became a bounty hunter and a badass under Bane as his teacher. Everyone wanted a back story not a Endgame to Bob's Fett. So it was bad call and always going to fail.

    spiderman doesn’t deserve to be nominated for best picture, you wouldn’t give a toyota corolla the car of the year award because it outsold ferrari that year

      I would. If people bought the more reliable car and it has reasons for its reliability, it’s only fair to call it the most popular and best in the eyes of the people

      The car example is a bad one, because car of the year often goes to some unassuming family car which gets great mileage and has good handling and accessories. Having said that, as much as I really enjoyed Spider-Man NWH, I wouldn't call it a great movie. It had many, many flaws and it was goofy as all hell but it's not like it was incredibly meaningful. Not to mention, in order to understand some of the best parts of the movie (such as Andrew saying MJ) you don't just need to have seen the prequels in this franchise, you need to have seen a bunch of movies in an entirely different franchise. That's... a lot. I'm definitely not against the idea of blockbuster movies being Oscar material, I just don't think this is the movie.

    Funny enough that if their was dino mad max Australia would probably be the least effected.

      Dinosaur Mad Max apocalypse would still only be like the fourth or fifth most dangerous thing about life in Australia.

    Now I really want this Flash movie with Grant Gustin. I mean I haven't been watching the show for a bit, but he's a great Flash. So he should definitly murder Ezra's Barry, because that is a very Flash thing to do. If he did it quickly no one would notice. He could just blame it on reverse flash. We won't mind.
