Poor Takeshi, he'll never look at Häagen-Dazs or McDonald's the same ever again EDIT: Apparently early copies had him going to MOS Burger? You learn something new every day :O EDIT 2: It's later editions, not earlier, whoops! 😅
@@billy_naing Just checked my edition, says Häagen-Dazs and it's the "First edition: May 1999; 47th printing: March 2008". What's yours say? Seems like it is the other way around 😅
cursed reply, that's like saying don't watch the documentary, go do the thing instead. you don't gain the insight of the person who made the content and everyone is different so they don't come away from the same things with the same feelings/interpretations. it's the entire reason people who have played a game will watch an analysis of it
A combination that makes a lot of sense if you know/enjoy tteok-bokki, with the chewiness of the thick noodles and the spiciness of kimchi. I can never get enough of these whenever we go to a Korean restaurant that offers them.
Even when I can understand enough Japanese to function, places with that vibe of "we do things in a SPECIFIC way" are so intimidating. Not even about language, it's about not being different. Tons of pressure!
Are there no anti-discrimination laws in Japan? I've heard of places there who serve locals only and it's always surprising how this isn't illegal. Culture shock I guess. Even notice this in the city I live in, with a large immigrant population including Japanese. Japanese stores seem to begrudgingly serve non-Japanese people but can't turn us away since their business could get shut down for that.
Not the Takeshi and Mary-san 😂 I remember me and my mates making multiple endings by the end of it just like a visual novel and we read them very dramatically for the flair as well. Mary and Takeshi o7
Lemon on kimchi on udon... not a combo I'd ever thought could exist but this looks good and sour & crunchy pairing with thick doughy udon sounds delicious!
I had kimchi udon somewhere near mt Fuji (while waiting to ride the cable car!) and when I tell you it was the most delicious thing I have ever put in my mouth, I’m not even exaggerating
Wait a second, I'm early for once. I've always gotten his shorts on my feed unless it was a couple months old. This is the first time I got it this early
Japan is full of these amazing little shops run by hard working people absolutely dedicated to making the best quality food they can. This is why I LOVE Japan ❤
Kimchi is always amazing, so it makes sense. One of my favorite Bon Appetit recipes is a kimchi udon recipe, but this with the lemon looks even better.
I don’t think shorts pays well if all the content creators I’ve heard talk about them and he only does sponsorships like once or twice a month for Tokyo Treat and Sakurabox, so he probably has a second job or is just well off.
more places even in america need instructions on how to order. some places dont have signs that say whether to seat yourself or not and i hate not knowing if im waiting for someone to pick up my check or if i need to pay at the host stand. the anxiety and embarrassment of asking is nerve-wracking
Wonder if any of the owners of these restaurants see his videos. He's probably giving them a lot of business from new customers because of his reviews.
Takeshi and Mary omg I'll never forget the time Takeshi was at home sick, crying because he didn't do anything for holiday while Mary was off venturing and having the time of her life 😭
Your voice makes me sleepy. Its a good thing, going to sleep with the soft sounds of udon, I miss yoshinoya, I miss living in Asia, your voice is a hug from someone I used to know ❤
OH! I was waiting for S Tier for this one, silly me I should have noticed it didn't have the "under the bridge" intro. Love ya bud, keep on waxing poetic about food.
The only other place I've seen Kimchi Udon is the frozen pre-packaged variety in Costco of all places. I'm almost certain the Koreans probably started this.
Bro was so scared he needed instructions to remind him how to order.
To be fair, it was complicated lol
That's just social anxiety 😅
Have you ever ordered food in a foreign country?
Idk why you said scared you just wanna make sure they understand you when you tell them what food you wanna get
Takeshi and Mary-san are OGs. Can’t forget Robert and Sue either.
And on the other side of the fence we have the one and only Mike Miller.
To this day we don't know for sure if Takeshi and Mary ever reunited 😢
@@Moonstone-Reduxah,ミラーさん
Can’t forget Mike Miller and Satō Keiko, they were always there for me
Mary was talking to everyone! Haha
Never forget the time Mary and Takeshi agreed to hang out and went to the wrong fast food places.

In my edition of Genki, he went to MOS Burger.
@@wanderinglimebloodearly? my version from 6 months ago had MOS burger.

My class was locked IN on that part of the story
I was so thrown off by the Takeshi and Mary reference I had to restart the video to make sure I heard it right
Genki learners know all too well the myth and legend of Takeshi and mary
Same lol
I'll never forgive Takeshi for standing up Mary. I never believed that excuse of mistaking MOS burger as McDonald's
Didn't realize it was MOS Burger in the original; my copy said Häagen-Dazs. Poor Takeshi is _really_ screwed now o_o
Then he also was talking to another girl right after that - Mary was honestly too good for him smh
@@breeze9819taking advantage of the poor American girl in a strange land, What a jerk!
Life-changing is how I would describe my first bowl of Tonkotsu when I was 18
To me, first Bún Bò Huế at Đà Nẵng when I was 22.
That Genki reference triggered my PTSD.
I feel called out with the seven hour game retrospective video reference lmao
You might as well just play the game...

TAKESHI AND MARY SAN MENTIONED RAAHHHH WHAT THE FUCK IS A FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPPPP
Mary and Takeshi... damn, that takes me back
Genki takeshi n mary-san are the goats. The udon looks so good
You know it's good when he didn't even leave the lemon peel in the bowl.
Boarder line heat stroke 😂
That Takeshi and Mary-san line brought back memories I never thought I'd hear from CZcams Shorts lol

It looks so simple, like fettuccine Alfredo. That’s how you know it’s powerful.
Lol at the Genki reference 😂😂😂

Lol the genki reference! Mary was low-key dating around!😂
That udon looks so good ❤
This audio scratches my brain so good.

Haven't thought about takeshi or Mary in awhile lol

Little concerned how often you go into sketchy looking joints, but also it's always where you find the good stuff
Everything gets better with kimchi! Would love to try this!
Gives me the idea to make this at home! It looks so refreshing
I had kimchi udon somewhere near mt Fuji (while waiting to ride the cable car!) and when I tell you it was the most delicious thing I have ever put in my mouth, I’m not even exaggerating
It was because of the kimchi... There's a reason why Koreans always mix it with everything in every meal, including udon.
To us, it just Tuesday... But to Japaneat? It was the most "Udon know how much I love this" moment xD
You know that if the place looks run down in Japan, the food would be top tier.
I am certainly not the first nor the last but I definitely caught that Genki reference! 😂👌🏻👍🏻
The GameCube video reference hit home....I love this channel! 😊 I feel validated almost every video there is a pop culture reference 😂
Kimchi, lemon and udon are 3 things I never thought would be mix together, separately or together
In Korea, you mix kimchi with everything, including udon.
Wait a second, I'm early for once. I've always gotten his shorts on my feed unless it was a couple months old. This is the first time I got it this early
Love the music in this weejio!
I went to Japan for 2 months and went to every places likes that I could see. They were always the best
Those kimchi would work super well with zaru udon too. Sour kimchi, chewy, chilled udon. Man, I should make some.

Most of the time, the best food comes from the sketchiest places.
Look at that sweet sweet validation for my decision to buy Genki
my local japanese restaurant has spicy udon which has kimchi in it :)
very good
Kimchi is always amazing, so it makes sense. One of my favorite Bon Appetit recipes is a kimchi udon recipe, but this with the lemon looks even better.

Kimchi Udon.....looks interesting dish

“To you, it just looks like udon”
Sir, that looked amazing!
I havent been in a Japanese college course in over a decade and hearing Takeshi and Mary's name just transported me to a different era 😭😭
You make me want homemade kimchi sooooo bad!
Here’s a wild idea: refried kimchi udon, so the noodles end up absorbing a ton of the kimchi flavor
It's so delicious bro ate the lemon too
i really love these hidden food treasures ^^
kimchi udon is a staple in korea!
Another gem in Japan.✨(●'◡'●)

The gamecube retrospectives is so real 😂

I was not expecting a Genki reference to be casually dropped like that ☠️
That 7 hour retrospective at 3am comment hit too close to home.

I'm almost certain the Koreans probably started this.
i can tell it's going to be so good

Wow, it's so fun to know that there's kimchi udon in Japan as well! It's my go to udon type in Korea.
