That all aside, it wouldn’t make sense for something like the X to camouflage and hide INSIDE the nest of its greatest predator. Metroids also rely on other senses aside from site, so camouflage probably wouldn’t work given the X give off a unique form of energy (which Metroids sense)
This is simply all-around terrifying. The creepy music, the way the Hornoad just FREEZES upon infection, and how the X-ifed copy crushes the remains of the baby Metroid's egg underneath it. As if symbolizing how fucked things will get with the Metroids gone.
@WiiManElite Samus Returns I feel emphasizes action and flashiness vs with AM2R emphasizing atmosphere and complexity, which is why many myself included feel that AM2R is the superior remake.
@@Mateoski97 Honestly I do think AM2R is the superior remake, but like you said they were going for two completely different identities. With how much different samus returns is from the source material, I honestly don't mind the way it was done. Suspense and atmosphere aside, it was a blast to play imo.
The way the Hornoad freezes upon being assimilated makes sense as the X attacks its victim's nervous system before proceeding to consume it to the bones (it's shown in more details in the Metroid Manga). Samus was only able to survive because the X infected her suit instead of her organic body first and even then they had already consumed large portions of it by the time she was recovered by the Galactic Federation, with a survival percentage of 0.8%. Yes, that's a mortality rate of 99.2%... Truly the beginning of the end for the galaxy, universe, and the concept of free will right here...
I just noticed how every hop was simple and casual. But the moment the Hornoad saw the crystal become an X, it started hopping faster. As if it _knew_ what the X's were and tried to get away as fast as it could. I love little details like that.
that’s brilliant and unsettling that you went through a whole tunnel full of dormant x and that they only reason they didn’t wake up and infect you was because of the last metroid
Oh good god, you're right ._. If Samus just killed the baby Metroid and tried going down that tunnel without it, the only way out as far as I'm aware, she likely would've gotten swarmed without the baby Metroid's presence. Theres so much about this simple scene i love. The remix of the creepy mysterious song from Fusion. The concept that the crystals that only metroids can destroy are fossilized X-Parasites. the way the creature fears the x and shows a clearly mutated version that looks like the fusion version. Truly a showcase of someone who gets what Metroid is at its core and improves/expands upon the idea
This scene is amazing from every angle. 1 - Ties it to Fusion 2 - The remix of Fusion's "creepy/mystery theme" 3 - The show how the X consume their host (eluded to in Fusion, with Sirres' skeleton, and a few mentions by the computer, but never actually seen) 4 - They were able to convey how terrified the toad was by just speeding up it's movement in the opposite direction of the X 5 - The X crushing the metroid egg had to have been intentional and poetic 6 - The crystals the metroid consumes are crystalized X parasites.
Let me throw one more in there for you. This X transformed into a Hornoad. Very likely the same one that infected Samus. The SA-X was the first of the X to awaken, to lead their attempted conquest across the galaxy, and it all starts here... I know it's a fan project, but I think that's what they were going for.
@@LorenHelgeson Yeah! that's good point actually... I mean, during Fusion there are no less than 10 SA-Xs but it would still be a nice touch if this Hornoad-X also happens to be the last one we fight.
Samus was extremely lucky to survive through the Genetics Laboratory, since she had to cross a room that was *full* to the brim of these crystalized X Parasites before even finding the Baby Metroid. Any of those crystalized things could have easily unmorphed back to its gelatinous form, attacked Samus and end her right there without her having even a chance to even fight back.
The X Parasites knew they were still in danger as long as the Queen Metroid continued to exist. Once she was destroyed...that was the beginning of the end for SR388.
@@SoldierOfFate SR388 was doomed from the start. I can only count a few times when I turned off a few power ups.
@@Tucher97 Turning off the ice beam is just a workaround for a problem that really can't be solved without making ice seperate from your main beam. That way you always have access to freezing things without having to toggle or go into a menu and turn the ice beam on and off.
Because Samus Returns shied away from the details, this one outright and explicitly shows the agony an organism feels being absorbed, and the screech and the bones left behind are just the icing. It's kinda amazing that this scene is mostly intact in the M2:R Nintendo did as well, though without some of the flourishes of AM2R of course. It's even a Horntoad and everything.
While I think the "what you don't see is scarier than what you do see" approach Samus Returns went with is also effective, I can see why others prefer this one. Sometimes, you just wanna see why you should be afraid of something with your own two eyes. However, one thing I give AM2R more credit for is showing that the crystals are, indeed, petrified X Parasites. I know it's implied in Samus Returns, but this would've been a great opportunity to outright confirm it. Look, I love Samus Returns to death; it was my first proper Metroid game after only playing the original, and it was the first one I ever completed. But AM2R is just as valid, and I wish Nintendo could've understood that instead of throwing a hissy fit about "intellectual property" and "copyright" and all that other legal bullshit.

Now this makes sense in the original Metroid 2 GameBoy game as when the Baby Metroid eats the clusters of "Crystals" to allow Samus to escape the caverns and return to her ship. Metroids were created to be the X Parasite's Predators, so instinctively a baby Metroid would attack and eat the X and for an unassuming individual none would know of hand that the "crystals" are basically X parasites in suspension or even sort of eggs. I like now that Samus is called now the last Metroid based on her genetic infusion of the Super Metroid vaccine, but I still miss the actual Metroids as creatures in the games, and it is perhaps what I really didn't like of Metroid Dread... actual physical absence.
If Metroid movies are ever made, I would make sure this would be the post credit scene for the end of the second film. It is absolutely perfect! I cant stress how much i love this clip. It is the textbook definition of "Show, don't tell"
The x parasite life was in danger with metroids, when the metroids were gone, the X parasite be free from the Chaín, so that means, metroids in= no x parasite, but no metroids= x parasite in.
This is just like in Samus returns only that Hornoad was also nibbling on one of Ridley's discarded metal body parts and that X killed it from behind a rock.
I'm so tired of the 'oh, AM2R did better, Samus Returns is bad' why the hell do we need to compare every shit? Why can't we just enjoy videogames and stop comparing them. Both of the games are great. And I must say that because of Samus Returns we are getting Dread.

X-parasite: more like under new management
Also, the other crystals start moving by the end of the video... Creepy
So basically the planet is screwed
I just noticed how every hop was simple and casual. But the moment the Hornoad saw the crystal become an X, it started hopping faster. As if it _knew_ what the X's were and tried to get away as fast as it could. I love little details like that.
Meanwhile the hornoad in the 3ds remake started hopping towards the X
I mean, considering the X being native to SR388, plus the fact the Metroids were created to specifically hunt down the X, it makes sense.

I can only count a few times when I turned off a few power ups.
@@Tucher97 Turning off the ice beam is just a workaround for a problem that really can't be solved without making ice seperate from your main beam. Samus Returns gives you a beam toggle because Samus canonically had the ice beam in Metroid II, while Fusion and Dread take the much better route of making your missiles do the freezing. That way you always have access to freezing things without having to toggle or go into a menu and turn the ice beam on and off.

One species goes extinct, another is revived.
This is just like in Samus returns only that Hornoad was also nibbling on one of Ridley's discarded metal body parts and that X killed it from behind a rock.
The first time i saw this scene got the same feeling with sa-x lol
I'm so tired of the 'oh, AM2R did better, Samus Returns is bad' why the hell do we need to compare every shit? Why can't we just enjoy videogames and stop comparing them. Both of the games are great. And I must say that because of Samus Returns we are getting Dread.
Wholeheartedly agree. Every version of Metroid 2 has its strong and weak points. I enjoy them all for different reasons.
Honestly. All those fake fans who never came forth when it counted and only got into the series by pirating emulated version now suddenly act like they own the franchise...
I thought Nintendo stole the idea of a Metroid 2 remake from AM2R in the first place.
@@ralsei3157 they created the game. How the hell making a remake of their own game is copying someone else idea?
I hope this team the same one to create the AM2R make a work of metroid fusion lol it would great of course not gonna happen but ey dream is free
Dayum, they sure put the corresponding scene in Samus Returns to shame here.
I already played this years ago and loved it, but may have to give it another look...
Definitely recommend checking out the community updates. Lots of small changes, plus Fusion mode. And there are mods available like Multitroid and SA-X mode that are lots of fun!
Dread...
The music is something out of NiGHTS into Dreams.
the last metroid is in captivity...
the galaxy is at risk.
Congratulations on 400 subscribers👌👌👌🎆
Can't wait for ASMR and AMFR
See that's the thing about these legal takedowns. You take something down like that, then EVERYONE knows about it... and those who know how to do so can modify and improve it. I'd say Nintendo had a close encounter with the Streisand Effect, here.
funny how this scene also happens in returns
This is honestly more terrifying than what we got in the official game.
How ironic it was the same scene in Samus returns
I just read that Fusion mode was added by fans. So... This all could be inspired from Samus Returns
@@Marxhog As far as what other comments tell me, this ending was planned before AM2R was shut down originally. I agree tho that Fusion mode is most likely inspired by Samus Returns tho.
@@lpfan4491 AM2R was DMCA'd years before the release of Samus Returns. Therefore, it makes me wonder which version's "Fusion Mode" was released first.
@@megamanfan3 the devs have already said they wanted to add just the fusion suit. The fusion mode does come from Mercury steam.
To clarify for future readers the secret ending and a Fusion Suit cosmetic option were both planned by the original devs but not added due to the DMCA.
The community updates devs finished the secret ending, and expanded on the Fusion suit being in the game with Fusion mode (which was inspired by MSR’s mode of the same name)
It would be really cool if the enemies all had their sprites changed to their fusion counterparts in fusion mode.
The last Metroid is in captivity. The Galaxy…is royally fucked.
HOLY FUCK....JUST REALIZED WHAT ROOM THIS IS
This is such a fantastically done cutscene. It should be shown in classes.
When I first saw this scene, I was literally like Nani?
This reminds me in some horrifying way of the Zerg in Starcraft; Metroid Fusion was really well done.
AM4R 🤙
Actions have consequences.
The fact that this exact thing is in Metroid Samus Returns is insane
I did not know the credits of AM2R had a stinger, thank you haha
now we need fusion with the am2r treatment
I think this looks more terrifying and superior over Metroid Samus Returns version.
How Totally Awesome!
i hope they make a bunch of new sprites for the infected creatures in fusion mode
