That beautiful sound of a V8 winding up to shift point.... I've had two muscle cars, a '67 350 Camaro and a few years later, a 360 (not 340) Duster. They had totally different personalities and were both fabulous cars. Miss'em both.
I'll give respect to Tuners where it's due, as in those who can actually dig in and make internal mods and not just bolt on parts with Daddy's money, BUT, THERE IS NOTHING LIKE OLD SCHOOL MUSCLE!! Once you experience driving a true Muscle Car, there's nothing else like it!
So true... I had a Mopar "Godfather" down the block, from my parents house, when I bought my first 1970 Roadrunner, in 1979, who had been building big block 4 speed Chrysler cars, for 20 years, before I got involved in 1979, as a wet behind the ears, high school kid, he taught me the importance of setting the dwell inside the distributor, along with properly timing the dual points... Along with the jets! There was no electronic ignition back in 1979, and a Mallory dual point Distributor, was about as nice as your ignition on a Chrysler hot rod got... and that was the exact moment where you got the maximum power out of the engine, combined with the correct jets... it was his extensive tuning, done on my dual quad 383 Roadrunner, that got the maximum performance out of it, and I got sub 12 second passes, at Great Lakes dragaway in Union Grove Wisconsin, with the car. Back in '69, when he was 25, and working on the line, at Schlitz Brewery, when life was good in Milwaukee, and there were plenty of blue collar jobs that paid a living wage, he bought a brand new 1969 Plymouth GTX convertible, Tor Red, with a black interior, a 440 Super Commando, and a 4 speed, with beautiful Mopar buckets and a beautiful Mopar console. As he tells it, one day, he noticed, 3 houses to the south of his father's house, a highschool kid had brought home a '70 Pistol Grip Road Runner, and then right across the street, SAME DAY, another high school kid had brought home his '69 Dodge Super Bee with a 440 mag, headers, and a 4 speed... Same day, same week, and that was the week, me and my friend Brad, went out and found both Mopar Muscle cars in the classified ads, I paid $650.00 for mine, Brad paid $1500.00 for his, out of the Sunday paper, and went out and paid cash for them that week, and they showed up at our parents house on the same Wednesday, afternoon, that we went out to pick them up. It was a pretty cool day in the neighborhood, all of the parents came to check them out, remembering when they were young, drooling over the cool cars, and the cool 4 speed shifters in each one of them... We did not know that Mike had a Geetex car stored in the garage, right down the street from our parents house, in the same block... we didn't know him, we didn't know anything about him, had never seen the car... and all of a sudden, the three of us were best friends... He said all of a sudden, he was in Mopar heaven, that day!!! He was 20 years older than us, and he sure was able to show us how to work on these incredible Chrysler pieces of art.... God how I miss those days, God how I miss those friends, God how I miss those cars... I would give anything to be able to go back... for just a month or so. We smoked a little pot, we drink a little beer, we never hurt anybody, we laughed a lot, we lied a lot, and we loved the cars that we worked on, and we felt like Kings of the Road, when we were driving them, at the lake front, or out on highway 100, at the Cruise, every Friday and Saturday night.... May the seventies live on... Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, a few tokes, a few laughs, the sweet smell of tire smoke under the city lights... A pretty girl sitting next to you, as you get out to Whitnall Park, around 9:30, after laying rubber, and doing donuts and power stands, at the Cruise...no cop hassle today, perfect evening so far... just as it's getting dark... to find a makeout spot, with a six pack of beer, and THEN, you had the BEST NIGHT EVER, Anybody who has not spent a Friday or Saturday night doing that, is missing out on a slice of Americana, that was just about the coolest thing ever... They are memories that I will take with me, for the rest of my life, and I cherish them to this day... The machine of a dream Such a clean machine... With her pistons a pumpin' And the hub caps all Gleam I'm in love with my car... Got a feel for my automobile... Get a grip on my boy racer roll bar Such a feel when you're radials squeal... With my hand on your grease gun, Oh, it's like a disease son.. Told my girl I had to forget her... Gotta buy me a new carburetor So she made tracks, saying this is the end now CARS DON'T TALK BACK, THEY'RE JUST 4WHEEL FRIENDS NOW.... I'M IN LOVE WITH MY CAR... GOTTA FEEL, FOR MY AUTOMOBILE... ;-)
Had one like it with a black stripe. 440 w/ roller cam etc. A fine car and wish I still had it. Traded it for a new '73 VW Thing. Big mistake.. what a beautiful sound yours has..
Listening to this car idling reminds me of being a teenager. My dad had a ‘69 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 Magnum with a 3/4 cam and he passed it to me. When I pulled up to a friends house their windows would rattle and they knew who it was…music to my ears.
I know that feeling, our Mom had one, (440 4bbl), and in ‘72 gave it to my brother. In ‘73, he let a friend use it, he got drunk and wrapped it around around a telephone pole. 🥲🥲🥲
Awesome! I've got a 65 Coronet, but 68 is my favorite year. Looks like you've got that car completely dialed - your launch and 60 ft is so impressive and the car looks great. I've done so much to my car since I was first able to test it right after the build before any real tweaking - 12.5/112 - but had to move for my job and don't have a drag strip anywhere close by. Check out my car when you get the time! Well done on yours.
Listening and timing the video, its just under 11 seconds to when he lifts. Having driven a car or two, you never lift right at the finish cause the scoreboard location varies. So its quicker than 11.0 for damn sure. sweet ride
There's nothing like a '68 Coronet. I just love the front lights and grill panels and that awesome rear light panel. If I could afford one, mine would be a light mist green(I forgot the color code and proper name for the paint), but with a black vinyl top and black interior -- my dream car. Yours is awesome !!!
Man, I agree! Like a lighter-lime green look would look cool as hell. That's a top Mopar color! I want a '69 Coronet, with some Keystone or Cragar rims, red line tires, and like a wine-red paint job! Maybe some pinstripes added!
the sound neighbors equate with their daughters pregnancy, fist fights in the street and loud parties that dont answer the door for cops and dont respond to complaints its to start throwing bottles.
Nothing like the sound of an American V8. Now you need to look for One badass Fairlane. Also look for Lenco shifter in car view. Also Pure stock drags and F.A.S.T. drags. stands for factory appearing stock tire. And one more Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. the top tier drag racing in the USA.
Hi, Andy Robinson here, hope your keeping well ? what happened to the very cool video you made of my coronet & the wild heart funny car ? cant find it any more ? cheers andy
I'm always irritated at myself, because I can NEVER decide in my head, which Dodge Coronet has the best body style. The '68-'71.....YOUR opinions: COMMENT! (I Say '1969 hands down, the front end design is beast)
If the engine is built right with good internal performance parts & balanced & blue printed as long as you don't over rev the engine on it's burn outs or during it's runs it can live for years before a refresh is needed . Oil is changed often on a drag race engine because of the race fuel used is caustic plus with all the added fuel needed in conjunction with the huge race cam that has a lot of duration they tend to load up & you get more fuel wash past the rings so the oil is changed often with the oil filter usually cut open to inspect for any metal shavings . These big blocks aren't turning super high RPMs compared to other make USA built car V8 engines because they don't need to being they make very good low end torque so as long as it's got a good set of properly sized high flowing heads & the rest is well thought out these engines can make huge power & torque at lower RPMs which is much easier on the block & rotating assembly which in turn means less often refreshing or rebuilding the engine . If you also noticed during his burnout he shifts from fist to second right away then 3rd on the roll out & this is done so as not to hurt the sprag in the 727 transmission so often times most guys will start out in 2nd then shift to 3rd during the burnout because if left in 1st gear out of the burnout then letting off the throttle during the roll out it shocks the rear sprag & can break it if done this way plus it's also much harder on the clutch housing which can cause it to crack & eventually explode causing severe damage to transmission & possibly the driver loosing his foot or leg if it doesn't have a bell housing shield or blanket to keep parts from cutting through the floor & driver . I am sure with the power he is making if he is using a 727 yet he has the modified bolt in sprag plus the better clutch housing & other internal mods so it doesn't grenade on the track . Some sanctioned tracks won't allow for the 727 to be used once a certain HP is made or how quick the car runs because nobody makes a stronger billet aluminum case for the 727 yet so they rule those out in those classes so most guys will opt for the aftermarket billet cased GM TH400 that's set up to bolt to the Chrysler engine via an adapter plate & converter made for it as well . Years ago before there were shift kits made & high flash speed or high stall converters made yet for them their used to be what was known as the Clutch flight trans that was special made with the 727 torque flite with it's bell housing removed & a special bolt on bell housing made so it could be set up with a clutch and clutch pedal in the car . What this did was allowed the use of the automatic to shift after the burnout & launch & not having to use the clutch pedal once under way hense more consistent shifts means a more consistent car with no missed shifts like what can happen with a manual transmission . The regular clutch & clutch pedal was only used to start & stop plus to use it for the burnout & it allowed the engine to be reved up high to launch harder by dropping the clutch pedal on launch then once under way you either shifted the automatic manually by hand shifter or let it shift by itself . The reason why this was developed & made was because at the time their were no high flash speed or high stall torque converters developed for drag racing at the time hense the Clutch flight was developed and made . They also had them made for the TH400 as well but I remember seeing these Clutch flites in many Chrysler powered drag cars way back using them until advancements of manual valve bodies with shift kit improvers to make them shift quicker & harder were made along with the high flash speed or high stall converters were being finally developed & used so the Clutch flight went by the way side so to put it mildly people quit using them because they were often heavier and we're expensive & heavier in a drag car tends to slow them down plus if your a privateteer with no sponsorship you try to find ways to go fast on the cheap as long as it's safe & Clutch flites weren't cheap . So these Clutch flight transmissions are rare & hard to find now so if you come across one cheap that someone has but doesn't know what the heck it is snapp it up because it probably worth a small fortune today with the prices of anything vintage drag racing through the roof especially Mopar stuff .
u have a great car but if u want to have some fun...swap in a 440 in any state of modification and stick some 3.9's or better in the rear and have at it...but keep ALL of the parts you took off...even the nuts, bolts, washers, etc, everything...then you can have the best of both worlds for driving now and retaining value for possibly selling later
Caelan Reeves try bolting in a 5.2 Magnum with a 4 bbl and headers in place of your stock 318. Keep the original . But now something happens you won't feel bad for destroying the original engine. How's 275 horse and bout the same mpg ? Or a 5.9 Magnum ? Make 300 ? Or go 440 if 6 mpg don't bother you and you love brutal torque.
Pull a 360 Magnum out of a pickup truck in it. Mild cam, 4bbl, and headers. You'll have lots of fun! It would be a perfect and durable street motor without any headaches!
Nice MoPower ya got there!!...Where is Santa Claus Raceway? Yes I know, Its pommyland, the Muva country. Whats a Punnka Pie? Yorky Porky? or more Oz style meat pie?
I grew up in the 60's and 70's. This car reminds of a 70's street rod what with the leaf springs and shackles. The comment below about modern day rice rockets and American muscle is kind of BS. It's all about how fast a car gets down the track not how it seems to get down the track. The sound a V8 makes has little to do with power applied to the asphalt or power to weight ratio.
Well it def looks like ya FOUND IT ... MR SEARCHFORSPEED ....LOL SHES A BEAUTY ...NEW SUB HERE I ENJOYED IT NOW I WILL BE BINGE WATCHING ... LIGHT n LOVE n GLORY of GOD / HOLY OF HOLIES ... TO YOU AND YOURS MY NEW FRIEND ... I ASK IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST ...SO MAY IT BE AMEN ....FROM WHITING NEW JERSEY ..
Chrysler engines are always way more expensive to build compared to a Chevy or Ford same with Buick Olds and Pontiacs & don't get me started on Cadillacs lol .
taller gear bro ,it will go faster ,et and mph ,shift sooner ,better time and mph ,big motor needs gear ,it wount go any faster than a built small motor ,until you put some gear to it, LET ER EAT!!
LOL...some ppl are incredible...so what does your chev do in the quarter...18 or 19 secs on a good day? jeeez dude your truck aint even on the same PLANET as this dodge
Stupid comment.. he runs tires half as wide as your truck so as not to break loose and achieve traction through the entire 9.8 sec run...which, by the way, is faster than your truck by at least who fuckin cares and a lot.
Ive now ran 9.8 in this full weight car, no power adders, and its a street legal show car.Cheers for most of the comments
Andy didnt know you where the same Andy Robinson that does the cool circuit videos...we defo should catchup soon
cheers Jay
stunning car,its street legal still?
I was going to guess about a 10.20 -10.40 average as that's what most do in this car.
Just now seeing this 8 years later LOL. I'm restoring my 69 Super Bee currently
Hats off to these guys for running Mopars in England, Wooo-Hooo.
It's nice to hear the sound of a nice Mopar Grunt!
can not bet the sound of a big aggressive American v8.

Absolutely awesome R/T Andy!! Love everything about it!!
now this engine sound bad ass ,put together good n tight ,sweet!!!
Love the Coronet!! I used to have a '69 years ago.
A glorious sound indeed.
Thanks for the ride !
Dodge had electronic ignition in 1972 fyi they also had a prestolite transistor ignition as far back as 1963 the factory race cars had them.
Jackie Gleason said it best, "How Sweet it is"
Outstanding!
beautiful muscle
that thing is mean....awesome car
Same color combo as I had when I was 16,my 1st car, 440 mag,4spd 👍
Nice rocket lots of ball under the hood.
Sounds good.

MegaCuda68 ... Well no shit dude, u got twin turbos.
YOWZAH!!!!
Today's "muscle cars" sound like babies crying next to this.
how many burnouts can they do on that nice machine before they have to redo engine. Burnouts ARE SO HARD on an engine !
If the engine is built right with good internal performance parts & balanced & blue printed as long as you don't over rev the engine on it's burn outs or during it's runs it can live for years before a refresh is needed . What's your hurry?
Mid 9's?
850 horse on the strip and NO ROLL BAR
Can i buy this car?
puro musculo de detroit
I've seen enough cars in one weekend to know you haven't see enough cars in your time.
when that car took off, the roar of the engine made me jizz in my pants. thank you mopar. :)
I've got a stock 68' coronet 440 w/ factory 318, should I keep all matching numbers or say F it and swap for something more meaty? 383? 440?
Go for 340 if you can that will save you a lot of changes like trans itc.
u have a great car but if u want to have some fun...swap in a 440 in any state of modification and stick some 3.9's or better in the rear and have at it...but keep ALL of the parts you took off...even the nuts, bolts, washers, etc, everything...then you can have the best of both worlds for driving now and retaining value for possibly selling later

Yorky Porky? or more Oz style meat pie?
guess you havent. there are plenty of 800whp naturally aspirated big blocks out there newb.
English blokes drag racing American cars that's funny.

Is that a back seat? Wouldn't you go faster without that?
406_Chevelle maybe in a chev
I timed it high 9 low 10
HA RIGHT!..nice try chevy boy!
Well it def looks like ya FOUND IT ... MR SEARCHFORSPEED ....LOL SHES A BEAUTY ...NEW SUB HERE I ENJOYED IT NOW I WILL BE BINGE WATCHING ... LIGHT n LOVE n GLORY of GOD / HOLY OF HOLIES ... you know its not all that hard, but expensibve yes, to make a 390 FE(ford) have over 800 horsepower N/A with a sort of humane idle
Chrysler engines are always way more expensive to build compared to a Chevy or Ford same with Buick Olds and Pontiacs & don't get me started on Cadillacs lol .
Those tuner cars.... makes me sad that they think they can win against old american muscle.
taller gear bro ,it will go faster ,et and mph ,shift sooner ,better time and mph ,big motor needs gear ,it wount go any faster than a built small motor ,until you put some gear to it, LET ER EAT!!
Well if you were smart you could get a stop watch and time it yourself...
is it natural to want to make babies with that car?
My 250 6cyl chevy truck with a t10 4spd,burns the tires through 3rd gear, untill you let go of the gas, your dodge is a dog.
Bowtie Ls speed I like Chevy's too dude... but that dodge isn't a dog....come on now.
LOL...some ppl are incredible...so what does your chev do in the quarter...18 or 19 secs on a good day? jeeez dude your truck aint even on the same PLANET as this dodge
@@peekee186 more like 20+ seconds for that old chebby wheezer..
Stupid comment.. he runs tires half as wide as your truck so as not to break loose and achieve traction through the entire 9.8 sec run...which, by the way, is faster than your truck by at least who fuckin cares and a lot.
Thanks for the ride!
