    I couldn't comment when I snuck in earlier, but I can't wait to see your modifications. I have a similar generator.

    the 'rated output' of a wind turbine seems to be measured just as the wind tears it off the pole! - absolutely terrifying speed of about 950RPM. remember that if your battery is at 12.5v nothing goes into your battery until that voltage is exceeded. This model needs to spin at 250RPM just to make 12.5v So in average weather a wind turbine simply wont charge your battery fully unless it is massive in size and delivers huge power. As a back up to solar- I think the best you can expect is a wee trickle through the night or in crap weather to stop your batteries bottoming out. Useless as a stand alone system unless you live in a coastal area with good elevation. Mine spins almost constantly but only actually charges about 10% of the time. I hope that helps? next video will cover this in depth.

      I have a cheap China 500-watt, 5 blade, 12 v that runs as fast as it can and never put anything on the display. Drill test I did not get the start charging rpm. It makes 6 amps at 800 rpm and 29 amps at 1600 rpm. It will never do 500-watts. Long story short. I plan to do a 4:1 gearing. That might be a little too much. It would be making 6 amps at 200 rpm. Might be to slow but it has 5 blades. Not sure what these things should run at. But as fast as it could go it did nothing hooked up as it should be.

      interesting problem. did you know that it puts out AC volts at the unit and then its DC volts after the regulator? maybe your multimeter was on the wrong setting. I would do further checking before starting the engineering project @@basilkey2949

      I'm an industrial electrician. Yes 3 phase out to the controller that came with. All legs equal. DC is being made. I even tried just a 3 phase rectifier. I had a 7 amp hr battery hooked to it with meter read out. At times the blades sound like it was going to fly apart. Voltage was not high enough to start charging. Battery dropped to 12.3 v while hook to it. Even when I drill tested it. Best I can remember. It seen to have to have very high rpm to get cut in voltage. I WILL NOTE CUT IN RPM next test. Never had one of these so I don't know what it should be doing at what rpm really. I will take it down and do more inspection and drill test when time allows. Maybe I just got a real bad one. OR the wire I used could be bad. It could be I'm not getting what is put out, but getting readings. Fun to play with. This time I will note the cut in rpm. Swap out the wire. Just to get that peace of mind.

      @@johnh9031 haha- after 10 years in the weather the old DIY one was getting squeaky as it pivots, but this one is totally silent. the three bladed ones make a noise like a drone at high speed but I guess the 5 bladed ones never spin at those speeds. I chose the 5 blader because of all my trees and buildings. power output is pretty lethargic. I hit a 40watt peak but average seems to be about 10-12 watt. Its still a nice back up to my solar panels

    Nice work, I also have a turbine. Mine came with a 12volt controller, do you know if these turbines are wired for 12v or can I trow a 24v controller on there? I run a 24v system.

    • @t.h.o.r.
      @t.h.o.r.  Před 10 měsíci

      The generic chinese windspeed controller with 5 wires and two LEDs is a self sensing 12/24v unit. They are not perfect but do the job. many people just use a simple bridge rectifier instead and run the rectified DC into a better quality controller. but then you do lose the low speed unload facility that helps get them spinning in light 5-10mph winds. no great loss as they produce diddly squat until they are spinning over 250rpm
