Typhoon makes an excellent competition trigger with a 3 lb pull and a 1 lb brake. Though they tell you to use 100 rds of high brass heavy load shot, it took mine about 220 to really feel the way I wanted it. Since then, I’ve put almost 18,000 rds of federal through it, 2 jams. It’s by far the most reliable semi-auto shotguns I’ve ever used.
I purchased a top Canadian 3gunners backup/practice typhoon, so it was thoroughly broken in, and It has been amazingly reliable, to say the least. I've even run full matches with a mixed bin of random leftover/range pickups, and it went bang without any issues. I highly recommend this mag fed for competition. And then since our tyrannical government "tried" to ban certain firearms based on "scary looks" or their favorite made-up definition of "AsSaULt sTyLe FiReArM" so I switched to the FD-12 bullpup shotgun, which takes the same magazines and can be custom made to take AR style grips. It's very similar in design to the F12 and with my propper break in of 500 heavy, high velocity buckshot/birdshot and slugs, it is almost at the same reliability stage as my Typhoon, one of the biggest Cons to the FD12 is the mag changes with coupled mags as then the mag release is blocked and you need to use your hand in a non natural way to preform mag changes, which then makes it slower than the AR layout on the F12, but other than that having a shorter package on the FD12 and the ability to add a barrel extension makes for a versatile platform.
The best review I've seen. You took the time to read and understand the break-in process and then watched the weapon soar. It's fast, reliable and looks beautiful
I run a Typhoon X12 and the F12. Save yourself some time and ammo by policing your weapon. What I mean is to rack that charging handle at least 300 times before you ever fire it. Make sure to oil it during the process and clean it afterwards. Break-in accomplished !
I just got mine out for the first time yesterday to start break in and a few issues. It won’t fire with magazine in (trigger will release and hammer falls but no contact to primer) but when drop the mag it will fire. Secondly the bolt gets stuck closed after firing occasionally! I noticed there is a small gap between the gas block and the piston (maybe 1/8”) is that normal?
I love my Typhoon F12 with the 20 round magazine. Everybody stares at you on the range in disbelief. And it shoots awesome. It loves magnum rounds though
I have that same model Typhoon. You can swap(flip) the gas block around to use the low brass ammo. I have had no issues after swapping the gas block over for light loads.
It’s a great gun - love my F12 in IPSC and 3-Gun - and yes the break-in period is more like 250 rounds (I almost gave up on it) and now it runs flawlessly; almost one of my most reliable semi guns. Even low-recoil slugs (needed at some ranges here) run fine now. Nice bonus that my Major Rifle setup (308 AR) pouches work perfectly with these mags.
I just shot mine for the first time today. I cleaned it and oiled it before I took it out. I shot slugs and buck today with zero issues. Put about 120 rounds through it. You must use high brass to get it going. I know they say 1250, but that obviously doesnt fly out of the gate. Slugs and Buckshot are what break this in. That is pretty standard with semi auto magazine fed shotguns. Same with the VR80 that I had. In the video he used low brass and had issues out of the box - not a surprise. I would have been surprised otherwise. Went to high brass and there you go. As far as the 20 round magazine - there is an inherent issue with them. The middle band needs to be loosened to have the rounds feed properly. I never had one but I have read this all over the place. Bottom line - use high brass for the break in period and it will run
Ray - I think we would all love to "buy American." But sometimes international is the way. It appears that you received some solid advice on the Typhoon, and some good directions on the break-in. Without that knowledge I would expect a lot of buyers would get frustrated - and fast. Knowing it was going to take a bit of work on the break-in, you stuck with it, and it seems to have paid off. It's a good platform, a good price and if it is a good performer, seems like a solid buy. It was a good episode, as promised.
It says both in the manual as well as right on the inside of the top of the box that you need to break in with 100 rounds of high brass heavy load. This is one of the best shotguns I’ve ever competed with, and I own almost 600.
You're going to make it run like a besst! I first heard of the Typhoon 12 about 6, or so years ago. They were even cheaper then, though I believe they are better built now.
Pretty much the same as a vr-80, and Derya mk12. I very slightly opened up the gas ports on my vr-80 and it cycles everything flawlessly from damn near no-brass to turkey loads. Open up the gas a tad, just be careful not to create a burr in the barrel.
My break in went very smooth, but I did a full disassembly and removed all the factory machine oil, made sure it was set to light loads and reassembled with a light coat of oul. You do not want to over oil these guns. I also removed the last round hold opens from the mags as suggested by some competitive shooters in the F12 facebook groups. I had 1 ftf and 2 ftes within the first few 10 rd mags and it ran flawlessly after that for another 200+ rds. I never had an issue with the 5rd mags.
My f12 has a quick bolt release add on in front Of the trigger. Speeds up reloads dramatically. It also comes with 45 degree angled sights for quick port reloads allowing me to sight without having to bring the gun back to vertical. My mags drop quickly. It really is designed for competitive shooters and is a beast once broken in.
Them bruises show up really well with farmers tan. Ive been looking at these AR12's as a potential for 3 gun. As always, great information for us noobs
I made a hard pass on this shotgun and run a BR99 with firebird lower. I really didn't like the idea of using the barrel as a guide rod just to get a slimmer handguard. I made use of the bigger handguard on the bora by replacing it with a side charger. It's now perfect.
On my I noticed that on the higher capacity mags the follower was the problem on the nose down rounds but a little bit of adjustment on the feed lips fixed that and some deburring of the inside of the mags were the mag latch was punched in the sheet metal
I have the VR-80, setup with AR-15 components (Magpul CTR stock, Hogue rubber grip), as well as a BSA red dot, and a 1200 lumen, Feyachi FL11 MB Tactical flashlight. G15 Ballistic did a 19-rd mag dump, back in 2019, that shows how easy the VR-80 runs. Wollet Boys does a drum run with an MKA 1919. It seems nearly impossible to outrun the trigger with either of these shotguns.
@@kordellgreen9794 I've got my vr80 on layaway for $599. Getting it out on tax free day. Then I'm going to fill out the rebate for $100 dollars, than it will finally cost only $499 after rebate.
@@kordellgreen9794 The manufacturer of that particular shotgun has a complex of seven different factories making variants of the same series (style), so yeah, their similarity in appearance is not by chance. I run the HATSAN escort DF12, very similar to the Typhon. Once it's broke in it'll cycle anything. I've had good luck with the Magpul 25 round drum and 10 round mag.
@JakerJunter I sold it to a friend who still uses in in 3-gun. Reliability is near perfect since sanding down the magazine followers. It will hiccup at least once during a full day match. 👍🏼
I have the typhoon x 12. Its a awesome shotgun. Its a great turkey gun and home defense tool. A little trick, lick the bolt back and store it like that for aboit 30 days. It'll run target/bird loads like a charm. FYI. Thes guns dont like the large capacity round mags for some reason. Stick with 10 rd mags or less
I have 3 VR80's and a VR82 and love them. Why 3? 1 black tactical with laser and light with open sights. 1 burnt bronze, red dot on top, open at 45 offset. 1 camo, rifled choke, rangefinder scope and iron offset at 45. The VR82, I have kids,,, nuff said, lol I also have fab defense GL stocks on all of them, they really do take the bite out of the heavy loads.
I like these from what I’ve seen after they break in the good to go.also I’ve seen they make a 20 round (I think) drum mag witch is cool that long stick mag is ridicules looking.
If the safety is anything like the VR80, you can remove the screw and turn the safety on the right side 180 degrees and then screw it down. My VR80 ambi ate my trigger finger up too.
I shot a typhoon on the range once. Surprised by its quality, but the recoil is definitely more than my traditional tube fed competition shotgun. This seem to be a problem with all these AR/AK type of shotguns, while traditional style like mine have most of the reciprocating mass backwards, so the muzzle doesn’t climb that much.
I have the vr80...similar format... but the typhoon has a ton of features that I wish Rock Island would have... the barrel shroud style and color accents... for me.. lol. But the same break-in process... I'm glad it's over!!!😆 but all I shoot is hi-brass anyway 🤣
ive had my eye on these for a while, been waiting on a drum for these things like the fostech uses. love the look of this thing tho. I do believe if you break it in well, itll run like a champ. but i do wonder if theres any aftermarket support for these like upgraded springs and pistons for these. love the content. keep the videos coming...
I picked up a Turkish "GForce" 12 auto last Fall. Will take a LOT of heavy loads to limber it up so it'll cycle lighter loads! Total freakin' hoot to play with tho. Nothing says "get off my porch" like a 20 round drum of 000 Buck!
Ran a VR80 for 6-months. I put hundreds and hundreds of dollars in to that thing trying to get it to run reliably. It worked perfectly until it didn’t. Usually it “didn’t” in the middle of a stage. You know what you have to get. My dissident is a game changer. Wish I would have just bought a Dissident on day one and avoided all the pain that these Turkish guns are inevitably gonna cause ya. Good luck
I wanted to find other options than the VR. That OTHER company you mentioned is the sorriest company I have ever dealt with in my life! I would manufacture my own shotgun or melt theirs down before I EVER touch another one. The owner is a ________! Fill in the blanks. 🤬
Great review. It's been over six months now since you originally reviewed the gun. How do you feel about it now? Is it very reliable, even with lighter loads?
I have one and it shoots great, it hasn't jammed on me so far with heavy loads, but per the owners manual - if you are going to run lighter ammo you need to flip the gas block to the light load setting. You reverse the gas block if you are going to shoot loads over 1200 fps.
Maybe already been mentioned......but seen other videos where it wasn't so much the gun , but the Mag. The pressed parts on the mags are jagged inside , and have a tendency to catch the spring , giving it no force to the incoming shell.
Hey Ray how’re you? Nice setup and very informative looks like something I would look into being a shotgun guy. By the way, have you had a chance to check out the Vepr 12-81 it’s a awesome semi shotgun, two 👍🏾up. Keep up the good content 👌🏾
I don’t know if you don’t like the VR 80 but I found out that the VR 80 did exactly what yours did until I filed down the ears on the factory magazines and it works like a charm and then I bought 20 round pro mag 20 round mag Great right out of the box. This is a very common problem with VR 80s but you don’t need to run 200 rounds to break it in. You just file the ears down on the factory mags.
Hey Ray, not sure if Genesis Arms is the company you don't want to give a penny to, but if isn't and you haven't heard of them, their shotguns work amazingly well. I have used a GEN12 in 3 gun competition for two years now it has worked flawlessly and I would highly recommend one.
I love my Gen 12. No break in period and it just works. I’m not sure why there would be any hesitation giving money to them because their support has only been excellent.
I was looking for 1301 Tactical (none available) and was hesitant about buying a Turkish shotgun because I bought an ATI POS semi auto that I couldn't cycle once ever. That was a $300 gun, though. Here in Kalikornholia F12 is $950 ($100 less than Beretta.) Beautiful shotgun. Just got it. Hope it's a winner.
Hey Zabba. Make sure to disassemble the magazines. To get mine to run I had to remove the rear tab off the follower and sand the sides of the followers. They have to move freely. Once I did that it worked perfectly.
Look at Jerry Miculecs choice of shotguns. Mossberg, long mag tube with a sup er fast, high capacity reloading gun tube. Works perfectly from the first shot.
The biggest question, the one I have with most Turkish shotguns, is durability. In most models they start sheering pins and losing bolts after 500 or so rds.
FYI with the big banana mag...with the clamp in the center of the mag (the 20 is two 10s joined together), you might to play with the screw tightness on that clamp. Why? If it's over-tightened, it's squeezing the mag and hindering the movement of the shells (improper follower pressure could have been the cause of those 'nose down' shells). Personally, I would have gone with 10 round mags...less issues with balance. Other than break in and feeding issues, she looks like a nice shotgun. (I would have gone with an M4-style adjustable buttstock, but that's just me 😉)
Ad a 3 gunner and having some friends who are the best open shooters in the world I've seen untold numbers of open shotgun malfunctions. I can't imagine a video talking about the best open shotguns and not talking about Dissident. Clearly they are putting out the best guns right now
I like it this is one of the first Turkish made shotguns that I have seen keep on ticking and I'm not nocking Turkish stuff you couldn't pry my Caniks out my hand with a crowbar I love them!
I have a tristar g2 that refuses to not run no matter the ammo. Proper break in is key. I cycled it about a thousand times before I shot it and took my bolt out and sanding and polished it. It’s butter. It feels better than some $1000 or more shotguns I’ve ran.
Typhoon F12 is a beast! Adco best has a very low cost AR12 that's all metal no polymer except the stock . And it has the smoothest bolt system. I own quite a few box fed shottys but my adco is reliable and is fast. Only thing is better is my Tavor-ts12.
I bought the F12 Sport in FDE, shot 1st time last week with 150 rounds of 32gm, not a single issue, using it again tomorrow in 2 gun. I must say that stock you get in the States is ugly, proper AR style here in the UK. Good review!
I live in Turkey and believe me I have purchased f12 for around 650-700 USD. The same price, I don't think the company makes much profit in US market. And also, you have so many modification part options in there which we don't have :) Unfortunately, an individual is not allowed to have pistol or assault rifles if not necessary by laws. So, I have just got unlocked a new hobby. Greetings!
Any chance that you can one day explain and talk about pros and cons on conversion guns as that's what I'm about to invest please?? I have very little knowledge but maybe you can give me some insight. It be much appreciated..Awesome vids👍
I was wondering about the typhoon. Seems exactly like the vr-80. Break-in procedure and all. It shot the M3g match flawlessly with 1250 fiochi shells. I understand it's a $700 gun with a few add-ins, but I'm happy with it. Then again, I also used a jm pro for limited. I guess in both instances I got good guns? 🤷🏼♂️
I bought a 12 gaguge semi from panzer. i'm not feeling confident in these turkish made semi auto 12s. I guess i'll keep my pump mossberg at the bedside. Is there an idea that these get better and more reliable after a break in?
Idk still thinking about the Genesis Arms Ar10 12 gauge. But yeah $1820 for just the upper and parts vs $700 entire platform. Heard good things about the reliability of the Genesis Arms, unless someone has a different experience with it let me know.
Oh, and do yourself a favor and get some Taylor Freelance mag extenders. It only gives you +2, but the added weight helps and empty mag drop on relese.
As per the ambo-safety gouging your trigger finger... Send it to KB32, he knows his way around a Dremel tool, I bet he can make that worse for you.. I mean, better for you... Lol... I do like the price point on this Unit as I next year was gonna aim towards one of the Dissadense Arms shotguns... (Pardon the spelling on that brand), but I gotta say, as much as I like those they are several 1000's of dollars, soooo, this unit having the cool look, and a great price point, I can actually get shotgun sooner this way... Thank you for showcasing this unit. My other shotgun just won't cut the mustard in a 2 or 3 gun comp, which is the riot control unit by KEL-TEC, the KSG-30" ... Although I really like it, and adore how it sounds, I can't aim with it to save my life, still allota fun though.. a more purpose built unit like this will be perfect... But, now that Mr. X-RING has showcased this unit, the price will double in the next few days... Lol... fun video
Not hate, I'm enjoying the content. Only criticism, you claimed it needed 1 1/8 0z shot to break in, then proceeded to try low brass anyway. Over an oz is a big Ole slug or buckshot clearly that wasn't going to cut it haha. But sweet gun and thanks for the review
Man I saw one in another vid and it worked flawless w every ammo he used high or low buck or slug 😮 it’s a hit or miss in the product I guess, they gotta get it just right at the factory is my best guess. She’s a beaut tho! That’s the one I want!

I thought you were going to say 6 thousand dollars wow 6 hundred I had to have one thanks for sharing New sub.that is one sweeeeeeeeeet looking rifle.
Turkey has some good manufacturing, I don't know much about the arms industry but they have some world-leading shipyards in Turkey.
Love the channel
Hey Ray how’re you?
Nice setup and very informative looks like something I would look into being a shotgun guy. By the way, have you had a chance to check out the Vepr 12-81 it’s a awesome semi shotgun, two 👍🏾up.
Keep up the good content 👌🏾
Not too bad for the price. Turkish stuff is decent for the most part. Thoughts on the Beretta 1301?
And the delta 5 pro but in 308 and I got 6.5 cm barrel. Thanks Ray
I was actually looking at getting a genesis arm 12 gauge upper for a .308 ar-10 lower, but this might be worth looking into.
Those are cool but expensive
Gen 12 is the way. Buy once cry once.
Here in Kalikornholia F12 is $950 ($100 less than Beretta.)
Beautiful shotgun. Just got it. Hope it's a winner.
Hey Zabba.
Make sure to disassemble the magazines. To get mine to run I had to remove the rear tab off the follower and sand the sides of the followers. They have to move freely. Once I did that it worked perfectly.
@@XRING Thank you.
Look at Jerry Miculecs choice of shotguns. Mossberg, long mag tube with a sup er fast, high capacity reloading gun tube. Works perfectly from the first shot.
Yes I know. Maybe that’s why he isn’t winning any 3 gun events anymore.
looks slick. wonder how it holds up.
I'd love to know which parts to polish in order to skip running a lot of rounds through it for break in.
(I would have gone with an M4-style adjustable buttstock, but that's just me 😉)
As a lefty, can this take AR mag releases? Would be nice to be able to drop mags.
Great review thinking about it but not sure still prefer my two Italian shotguns
Agreed, but we just pop off the factory one and there's a buffer tube for use of an adjustable.
Greetings!
Can you show and list your added components for your funished Typhoon F12? Really interested. Thanks.
Genisis GEN 12 looks reliable in their videos. Might be another option for you
I got one love it
I WANT ONE LOOKS GREAT SOUNDS GREAT LOOKS GREAT AFTER BREAK IN I LIKE IT
Did you change the barrel or put a barrel cover on it between 8.30 and 9.30 because it looks totally different?
You should try the 20 round drum, it's better then the long mag
And there's another shotgun I need that I didn't know I needed 😄Thanks for bringing us along!!
I got a forward pistol grip for mine, so you don't have to hold the magazine when it gets too hot to hold
Any chance that you can one day explain and talk about pros and cons on conversion guns as that's what I'm about to invest please?? I have very little knowledge but maybe you can give me some insight. It be much appreciated..Awesome vids👍
Thanks Freddy.
Just email me at thexringchannel@gmail.com
I was wondering about the typhoon. Seems exactly like the vr-80. Break-in procedure and all. It shot the M3g match flawlessly with 1250 fiochi shells. I understand it's a $700 gun with a few add-ins, but I'm happy with it. Then again, I also used a jm pro for limited. I guess in both instances I got good guns? 🤷🏼♂️
Would a shorter barrel cause problems? I am thinking about a Derya MK12 14" for IPSC and home defense.
Have the vr80, excellent firearm. Have quite a few Turkish products and they all run flawlessly.
Damn it Ray, I now need to get one of these! I’m just a little annoyed that it’s just now that I heard about them!
Get a vr80. Cheaper after breakin runs great
My should looked like that after 25 rounds but my first time shooting a shotgun so much. I think you guys have a tougher shoulder
Either take the safety lever off and put the screw back in or flip the lever 180 degrees so it points up.
I have the same shotgun you have to use high brass first then you are good to go?
I bought a 12 gaguge semi from panzer. i'm not feeling confident in these turkish made semi auto 12s. I guess i'll keep my pump mossberg at the bedside. Is there an idea that these get better and more reliable after a break in?
Is there a way to put comp on it ?
Idk still thinking about the Genesis Arms Ar10 12 gauge. But yeah $1820 for just the upper and parts vs $700 entire platform. Heard good things about the reliability of the Genesis Arms, unless someone has a different experience with it let me know.
Gen 12 just works. No break in period. No bullshit. Great support.
Lol... fun video
How much did the break-in expenditure ammo cost?
Not hate, I'm enjoying the content. Only criticism, you claimed it needed 1 1/8 0z shot to break in, then proceeded to try low brass anyway. Over an oz is a big Ole slug or buckshot clearly that wasn't going to cut it haha. But sweet gun and thanks for the review
Man I'd like to have all those hulls
The flared magazine well is a plus which y’all didn’t really mention.
Good video.
They have a pre-order for 20 round drums
Man I saw one in another vid and it worked flawless w every ammo he used high or low buck or slug 😮 it’s a hit or miss in the product I guess, they gotta get it just right at the factory is my best guess. She’s a beaut tho! That’s the one I want!
This one was flawless after we reworked the magazine followers. 👍🏼
almost makes you want to rub down all of the moving parts with JB Bore Paste and then shoot 50 rounds.
What about the Vr80? Is that the no no?
Tell me where you purchased that for 699 because I looked two or three different places and they were all$ 998
Did you call me “Bolt Hold!?”😂😂😂
