The National Anthem of India is titled "Jana Gana Mana". The song was originally composed in Bengali by India's first Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore on 11 December 1911. Ironically it was dedicated as an eulogy to King George 5th's visit to India, also the same year. Tagore had personally sung it at the Delhi Durbar. Later in 1937, ten year;s before India's independence, Subhas C. Bose, the Indian Freedom Fighter proposed the song be adopted as the National Anthem. This dream was realised finally in 1950. Melody's raga: Alhaiya Bilaval

It is 'Vande Mataram' by Bankim Chandra Chattapadhay which is written in Sanskrit and is very different from that of A.R. Rahman. And please note that our National Anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' is written and composed by the great Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore who penned three national anthems.

Many regions are not mentioned in national anthem including NE states, South indian states, Rajasthan, Kashmir, Jharkhand, etc. It's not the Anthem which makes all of us Indians. It's the soul of nation, "unity in diversity" which makes us Indian. Also what are you trying to say by pointing it out? People of Assam/Nagaland/Manipur/Mizoram/Meghalaya/Arunachal Pradesh/Tripura are as Indian as People of Delhi/UP/Maharashtra/Tamil Nadu/Kerala or any other state.

@@aryastark111 I don't know if you got the second reply (network issues) but I guess I will write it again just in case ,
First of all kashmir, chattisgarh, andaman and nicobar, lakshdweep, rajasthan are NOT included in national anthem.
Second of all "Sindh" is included and as you know, it's no longer in India.
Last but not least, if "Dravida" is meant for all of South India "Ganga" is meant for all states on gangetic planes, this means "Himachal" is meant for all states bordering or having the lesser himalayan range (also known as Himachal Range) in their territory including Arunachal Pradesh and Assam too.
But arguing over it makes 0 sense, I know North east Indians and South Indians don't like North Indians because Most of North Indians are Racist motherf*ckers. On behalf of all Nincompoops, I apologise and assure you that all North Indians are not like them. "India is a dream" because our Unity in diversity is incredible. Rabindranath Tagore ji just tried to write it down on a paper, not knowing that his pen is writing national anthem of independent India. Have a nice day.

Those old people you are referring to, are some of the legends of Indian music we are blessed to have.
It sure was touching the depths of my heart, to hear such a beautiful rendition of our Anthem written by the legendary Rabindranath Tagore.

Did you know the writer of national anthem of India is Nobel Littérateur Rabindranath Tagore? He is not only the writer and composer of the national anthem of India, but also of Bangladesh (Amar Sonar Bangla), and the national anthem of Sri Lanka is inspired by his composition.
