The Film utilizes almost entirely practical effects with a combination of stop motion, miniature and full scale anamatronics. Visual effects were led by the incomparable Ultrakarl McNulty and Ezra Hamill. Set in the proper period of H. G. Wells novel, after many attempts by the filmmaker, Timothy Hines finally got it right, conceiving the movie as a what if it actually happened story. The film played in theaters across the US, competed in the Academy Awards and opened to rave reviews from the Los Angeles Times, Hollywood Reporter, You Won Cannes, to Ain't IT Cool News. Just like Yoda and the original Jabba the Hut, they made giant physical Martians with their tentacles. In one shot you can see they had people inside the creatures to control parts of it. Neat.
The best adaptation because it sticks to the story

It's amazing how much the production value of this studio has increased over the years. They made that one adaptation of War of The Worlds which, while it tried to be as accurate to the book as possible, was filled with low budget CGI along with other fake effects.
Love the martian.
I wish there was a clear model prop of the entire tripod machine this revamp used on the internet. The hood of the tripod is so stuffed to the gills with greebling, gears, lenses, and a bunch of kitbashing that i can't make sense of the machine even close-up when pausing the video.

The Great Martian War came out a full two years after War of the Worlds The True Story was released into theaters and competed for the Academy Awards.
