I would have asked the grumpy officer if he'd like to apologise for his threat to confiscate the drone - so that we can shake hands, put it behind us, and part on good terms.
They usually won't. The problem I have with it is that if you were not so clued up, you may have been coerced by his statements made under 'colour of authority'
I now carry a statement of fees to hand out. Taking my drone will cost them 250 + 80 per day (or any part thereof) - and they accept by taking the drone without lawful authority. It's on a 30 day account, with 8% statutory interest (over the BoE base rate) for any fees still outstanding after that time.
Obviously, should they turn out to HAVE lawful authority, they have nothing at all to worry about - the fees only apply where they DON'T have such authority.
Then, just be very willing to comply with the demand on that commercial basis. It's amazing how quickly the police start to reconsider when you set up a fee schedule ; )
330 quid just for taking your drone to check the ID. And it's commercial, so no need to prove any wrongdoing... they have to provide a defence against the commercial contract.
There's no reason you cannot charge the full value of the drone, if they hold it - as you'd have to replace it in order to continue your lawful work.
Suddenly they get really antsy - and the more happy you are for them to avail themselves of your 'services' - the more antsy they get ; )
Some coppers may be dumb as a bag of rocks, but they can still smell a trap being set XD

The cop that made the threat to confiscate was a right tool and shouldn't have a badge. The taller officer that was willing to have a civil conversation was pretty decent.

Confiscate your drone - they couldn't confiscate kids sweets !! 🤣🤣

I’m happy to criticise poor policing when I see it, so I think it’s only fair to equally acknowledge good policing. The young officer on the right was doing everything correctly - had a good demeanour, was respectful and was happy to explore the rules with you. The other officer showed a little more of that attitude we have become accustomed to, which was a shame.
I’ve been watching auditing videos for years, and on reflection to what we would have seen a few years ago, this was a fairly good interaction. 👍

Reminded me , 76, of Radio Luxembourg donkeys years ago only the old ones will know.
In the 1950's and 1960's Keynsham became a household name due to the radio ads of Horace Batchelor, the self-styled 'football pools king'.

Great video and drone views. 👍⭐⭐⭐
In 2011 announced multiple new police centres to be constructed with Keynsham constructed 2014 with 48 custody suites. The Miller Construction was contractor for the four station project at £129 million. A blog from August 2014 includes numerous photos of the building interior and custody suites.
Prior to the former station demolition 2019-2020, Council claimed they were unaware property guardians (legal squatters) were staying in the former police station. 🤔Unaware of squatters but always investigate drones in public.

Looked it up, there is an active sergeant Andy Bradshaw on Linkdin, I reckon dumbo was the idiot sergeant on the radio.
Side note. There is also a sergeant Andy Bradshaw that assaulted a drunk man in the cells in 2015 at Keynsham station. IOPC found evidence of an assault but CPS refused to prosecute… if it’s the same Andy Bradshaw Pure audits found a real wrongun.

No offences need to have been committed for the cops to get the Operators details ... BUT ... they DO need to cite the correct statute / act and sections ( see below ) in order to be able to invoke the powers conferred by those cited statutes and sections.
    - - -
*Air Traffic Management and Unmanned Aircraft Act 2021 - Schedule 9*
Section *ONE* : " Provision by remote pilots of *EVIDENCE OF COMPETENCY* " - ( The only competency requirement for Sub 250g Cat A1 drones is that you (quote) " read the User Manual " )
    - - -
Section *TWO* : " Provision by remote pilots of *INFORMATION ABOUT UAS OPERATORS* " ( Identity of the registered Operator )
    (2) The constable may require P to provide such information as the constable considers reasonable as to the identity of -
    (a) the person or persons who are or were the UAS operator for the flight, or
    (b) the person or persons who made the unmanned aircraft available for use by P
    - - -
Section *THREE* : " Provision by UAS operators of *EVIDENCE OF REGISTRATION* " - ( Is it required to be registered for an Operator ID and, if so, does it have one correctly displayed as required ? )
    (2) The constable may require P to provide such evidence as the constable considers reasonable of P's compliance, as respects the unmanned aircraft and the flight, with a relevant registration requirement.
    - - -
Section *EIGHT* : " Power to inspect unmanned aircraft in connection with other powers "
    (1) A constable may require a person in possession of an unmanned aircraft to allow the constable to inspect it if the constable considers that the inspection would assist the constable in deciding whether a power conferred by any of paragraphs 1 to 7 is exercisable.

While you cannot expect all police to know all legislation, their first duty is to investigate if a law has been broken. PC 816 you contact the police authority that understands drone laws that is why we have police drone officers, not some "colleague" trying to flick through the paperwork. Remember the legal term "ignorantia juris non excusat" that goes not just to members of the public it also includes members of the police. It could save you from being in court and being sued. The other officer was doing his due diligence politely while PC 816 took umbrage when he was put straight at the start. That is not good policing.
