Kudos to Vibracobra again for searching out this Peel. One of the best and longest lasting of the post punk bands.The group only got together in Leeds in the fall of 1977 so they progressed quickly. Their first release was an E.P. on the new independent Fast label in January 1978 titled Never Been in a Riot. Very optimistic pressing--4000 copies. Tony Parsons, writing in NME describes the song Never Been in a Riot as "....making the Sex Pistols look like Paper Lace." It's quite probable these were recorded in 1977 and if so, The Mekons were there in that seminal punk year.
The album Peel is referring to, The Quality of Mercy Is Not Strnen, was released in November 1979 and has one of the all time great covers. (Still not sure even if unlimited monkeys could type unlimited years they could type out a complete Shakespeare play. In my mind's eye they eventually and amazingly get it all perfect until the very last word and then they flub it....lol)

Hermoso documento! Hace mucho tiempo que leí a Lester Bangs y a Greil Marcus hablando sobre los Mekons. Pero cuesta conseguir discos por acá. "Rock'n'roll" de 1989 es diferente, pero muy, muy bueno.
