Went on that Stockport bus back in February, on my last visit. What a noisy engine. I think tha must have been one of the lst buses made with an open rear platform. I'll be returning again shortly for another day out with our Morris Minor owners at another gathering at the Transport Museum. PS, 56 years on, I still love the Mancunian, first seen in early 1968. I regularly used to catch the 26 version to the Gardener's Arms Moston on nights out and the 7 to Oldham Road, Newton Heath, when working during the summer holidays at my dad's old place of employment, the Co-op Laundry, just off Old Church Street, back in 1969 and 1970. Yes, and the old red 56 Leyland Panther Cub, from Upper Park Road, near the Halfway House, Cheetham Hill, to the other terminus, Ferrantis Hollinwood. Note the utter lack of ventilation at the rear of the Panther Cub, terrible in summer. This was remedied in the later (1967 E reg) white liveried Panthers, which had some opening windows towards the rear of the bus and a skylight halfway down the aisle which could be opened to give some much needed ventilation in hot weather. No air con back in the late 1960s, i'm afraid.

@paultaylor7082 yes I can attest to your comments about the Panther, it was like being in a greenhouse on wheels 😂

Must say the standard of driving is well below average ok going forward shocking reversing definitely no good in the garage service department and yes i have been driving buses for over 40 years along with various other vehicles

@starman678 thank you for sharing your opinions. The men that drive these buses are all volunteers who have PCV licenses, but I think a few have trouble with the manual gearboxes.
