That is sad they never performed it live together-- back then Babs was too scared to perform live, which is why Donna Summer sang Papa Can You Hear Me at the Oscars for Barbra. But they did see each other and they did talk up until Donna died. Barbra had just talked to Donna about a month prior, I think. In a concert Barbara said she wished Donna was there to sing with her, and that maybe she could get an animatronic Donna Summer to sing Donna's lines.. lol
Donna has done in her DVD live and more encore with Tina Arena.

Really, I didn’t get that impression at all. You may be correct, But, my perception was that Arianna was too consumed with playing around on Stage, as opposed to demonstrating that she could sing . To be “given “ the opportunity to share a stage with Barbra, I’d want my audience to remember my voice, And NOT; my ability to dance on a stage. I’m of the belief that Ariana knows the NAME, but NOT, her legacy of songs.
It is her voice that she is known for, and NOT for any scandalous behavior.
What has that got to do with Donna summer??????
The great thing about Barbra is that she sings 'live'. That's right, even at 77 she can still sell a song that she sang in the 70's & still sound great, tho her range is lower only in due respect to her age, but boy, the woman is a dynamo & still has tremendous stage presence. Simply adore her & have done for 40+ years. Sing that song Babs.
You betcha! The early London concert was a tiny bit ragged around the edges, but I think it was because so many - in that Hyde Park throng of thousands - were TALKING amongst themselves & threw off her legendary hearing. Some of cellphone-recorded things which first came out had a monstrous din around them!
Whoever recorded this should receive a Nobel Peace prize! LMAO. Thank God, this was captured for all to see !!

Queen, I got misty eyed too. Maybe it’s because the great Donna Summer has been gone for almost a decade now. I never thought anyone could take Donna’s place in the song, but Ari surprisingly did it well. Did this take you back to your childhood? It did me. Those were the days.

Barbra was in the 70s and now she’s 81 but she can still sing!! She had such great technique and that’s what allowed her to preserve her voice so well. And Ariana to be singing with this legend shows how amazing Ariana truly is. And I love how Ariana is slaying in her lower register here.
Barbra took care of her instrument. Shame Al Green didn't.

Youth! Magic. Sole! Well that comes with time. I born was in the 60's so heard Barbra when she was younger belting her songs out with ease. Still admire her now. Arianna is a talent for sure, so to see two quality singers together is literally music to my ears.
A true icon that I've loved for over 45 years. Her voice is far from what is was in the 70's, but she's still got it! Way to go Barbra! Grande has quite a voice to be reckoned with as well. Time will tell how long her career will last.

The reason is Streisand NEVER DID CONCERTS!!! Period. She was an academy award winning actress who dominated the movie box office in the late 60s and 70s and then went on to become a director in the 80s and 90s she doesn't like to sing! I've worked for Barbra over the years and can tell you she only started performing this song AT ALL within the last 6 yrs. Barbra likes interpretive songs and ballads vs disco or pop and shies away from singing anything off her "guilty album" which is her biggest selling album at 6M copies and pure pop. The point, she doesn't care about popularity or pop music. She adored Donna Summer and has referenced her in many concerts and tweets that she wished she were still alive so they could sing it together. I think in her 70s Barbra is more willing to sing stuff she's not crazy about and have more fun on stage. As an FYI, during the recording and rehearsals with Donna, Barbra said, "this song is in your arena. if you have any suggestions, i'm all ears." Streisand is more interested in DELIVERING a great product, than showing someone up... a la the rumours of Mariah and Whitney and Celine.

well, for streisand, i'd say 74 is the new 54. Definitely sounds younger than 74 of many notes. Some notes - the raspy ones, the age is showing.

Barbra streisand is one of my favorites. After all these years she still have that voice. So beautiful how she sings with young singers nowadays only proving she aint place that superstardom in her head. She is still and will always be the diva of all divas. Legendary artist. On the other hand, ariana grande is one of the best young female singers we have today and she admires barbra as her idol and inspiration. What a great collaboration. Hoping that barbra will do duets with beyonce, christina, kelly clarkson, katy, lady gaga, rihanna, miley cyrus, demi lovato etc maybe on her next album.

I have new respect for Ariana. She could've outshone Barbra (I mean, Barbra's voice is older, it happens to all of us), but she didn't. She stayed on the low notes for the most part, let Barbara take the high notes, and didn't do runs. I'm sure it was arranged that way, but even in the live performance she wasn't tempted to just hit a whopper of a note and come out louder and over the top like she EASILY could've. And at the end she was helping Babs know when to end the song...she got her attention and held her hand and indicated with her head "we're ending at this point," because it looks like Barbra got lost on where they were in the song. She did an amazing job and gave Barbra the respect she deserves.Brava!
Donna Summer can't possibly be matched and Barbara has already given us her best, but here...
