    Mystery item # 1 was part of an old furniture caster. The wheel and axle were missing and part of the arms that hold the axle for the caster. Nice search Chris! I’m glad you were able to save those items.

    Todd, nice you were able to hunt there. I would go back and stay in the wooded areas. We are fortunate in our community that almost all farm land was turned into scenic parks or left undeveloped for the wildlife. But, the high rises are going up all around major freeway areas which effects our wet lands. The owner was very informative, can you imagine finding a pile of civil war bullets. Wishing you a Happy Eater weekend to you and family. God Bless.👍👏

    The final chapter and tragedy, another casualty of that conflict,the loss of those sites will be gone forever,it would have been great for the government to have had that site properly searched by a team of volunteers and all finds put in a museum for future posterity.

    • @AppalachianHistoryDetectives
      @AppalachianHistoryDetectives  Před 2 měsíci

      Yep I agree. So many battles were fought in the Shenandoah Valley around major towns like Winchester, Manassas, Foggy Bottoms and the like that the entire region should be earmarked for preservation but development from everyone moving here for work just makes the land unaffordable even to non-profits, and the Government is broke....

    How was this allowed to happen if America's battlefields belong to the National Park Service??? And why did the farmers sell the land in the first place??? They are trying to do the same thing down near Manassas!!!!

    • @AppalachianHistoryDetectives
      @AppalachianHistoryDetectives  Před 2 měsíci

      Land in Northern VA is some of the most expensive real estate in the country, so many CW Battlefields are in danger of development. The National Battlefield Trust tries to save these places through museum fees and events, but they aren't able to save these sites from development sadly. The Developers do allow detectorists to come in and pull out what they can before its plowed. It is just tragic to see.
