I'm from New Jersey. We don't have any cottonwood trees. But I noticed when the murder Rate goes up. The top Water bite also gets better
😂
We can’t say that about Memphis because the murder rate is off the charts year round.
Lol. Sad to say, that's not a bad gauge.
So Tyler, you spot on! In the science/agriculture world we call this plant phenology. It’s the use of plants that help indicate a certain number of degree days ( a baseline temperature is set, and use an ave temp for that day. Take the ave temp for many days in a row and add or subtract thenave from the the baseline and help indicate when to plant a certain plant, or when something could bloom, or buds breaking on certain trees, etc. ) Plants and animals don’t care what the clock says or the calendar, they go off degree days or the conditions of that certain season. A perfect example is the forsythia bloom, great plant indicator.
The saying that I have heard since I was little is "when the dogwoods bloom, the whites start running" meaning that the white bass start moving into spawning areas and making baby white bass. Been true for over 50 years now and I suspect it will remain true for a while longer. I'm pretty sure it applies to most other bass species as well. 👍🇺🇸
I've heard that all my life about Crappie
I was actually thinking about dogwoods too. I own one so I know they bloom very early spring.
Yea this is for when the crappie hit the bank too
There’s isn’t a single video that I haven’t learned something from. Could be minor or a great help, but you’ve done a great job teaching. 👍🏼
That only makes sense, trees that bloom in Spring have always been good indicators of activity that we should watch for.
I live in Oklahoma. I always was told when Redbuds bloom the fish are moving up, when the Dodwoods bloom the fish are on beds.
Hey Tyler! Youngman, first off I am very impressed with your videos and especially your knowledge and your ability to explain things so well. That being said I was wondering if you would put out a video breaking down all the terminology in bass fishing, like cover, rip rap, finesse, ditches, flats, punching, flipping, etc... The reason I'm asking is I'm sixty years old and haven't ever Bass fished much at all since the early nineties until lately. When I watch all the fishing videos to try and learn this sport the terminology escapes me. I find I am puzzled more by that than anything else. If you have already put out a video on this topic I haven't found it. I would really appreciate the consideration, or please point me to a video that does it as well as you do. Thanks, Mike
I've heard for many years, when the lilacs are blooming the largemouth are spawning.
Here in southern Michigan I noticed that topwater poppers start working incredibly well after those cottonwoods stop falling and the bass start relating to drop offs more. That’s around mid June and it lasts to early July. Thanks again for the daily videos.
Here on long Island, when the "forsythia bush blooms" it's a safe bet that the bass are biting in lower New York and lower Connecticut.
Been that way since I was a kid.
I like fishing near isolated berry bushes. Bluegill will eat the berries that are falling, and where there are Bluegill, you know there are bass.
I always heard when the wind is out of the east the fish bite the least when the wind is out of the west the fish bite the best. And in my experience it is true. It’s true with other animals as well deer ants etc. if we watch wildlife we learn patterns. Even domisticated animals like cows. When more cows are on their feet and eating than sitting or deer or elk then fish are biting also. And the barometer and temperature and weather patterns affect when fish bite and how aggressive they are.
Apparently, trees that smell bad when they bloom are pollinated by flies. So if the trees are blooming to attract pollinators, it would make sense to me that the flies would follow. More flies probably lead to more fly predators like frogs, etc. Great video and comment section
Soil temp controls the majority of plants changes throughout the season…plants are a great way to know where you are in a season. Thanks for the cottonwood tip, here’s one: by the time the water is in the 40’s in the spring, you missed the best largie bite of the year, go figure it out😉
I notice when the trees start to bloom and the start of pollen season. That's when bass are in prespawn to spawning.
I'm from ohio originally, so i know what your saying. But one thing the old timers used to say when i was younger, is that when the Red Bud trees are blooming, the large mouth bass aee on the beds. Proved true most years in Ohio. I've been living at Kentucky lake since late 2016. Seems to be true here as well.
All pears bloom when the days and nights are the same length, around here anyway. Day length affects many plants and animals .
In my area, when apple blossoms begin blooming, the bass start making beds. Has held true my whole life.
Where’s your area ? Just curious
@@Oldbasshole Vermont. Lake Champlain and CT River watershed.
@@zachpatch8450 a few hours north of my area then 👍
Here in Chicagoland when the lilacs are in bloom fish for crappie
Cotten wood tress mess up my braid.
Same with duck feathers/fluff lol
In my area I watch for the dogwood and red buds to start blooming to mark the start of great spring fishing.
Regarding your sun gloves, here is an idea I had a while back but first let me tell you why I came up with it. Often when I fish my thumb gets really sore and beat up when I catch a bunch of fish. Recently I had a really good day on some big striper and it took several days for my thumb to heal. So my idea is, why not have a glove like yours that has fingertips exposed as they do but a thumb that’s covered to protect the thumb. Feel free to poke holes in my idea (pun intended) but it could be something to make one brand’s glove a little better. Just a thought.
Back in the day the was a glove for this called the Udder Hand
Good tips brother!! Im still trying to figure out this California techniques.
If the lilacs are in bloom the fish are biting! Pretty simple the warming weather that made the tree bloom also warmed the water out of winter temps activating the fish to eat after they spawned.
Bradford pears bloom bass move up. Dogwoods bloom bass are on the beds.
In my area Clarks Hill and Murray when the Bradford Pears, Dog Woods, and Azaleas bloom its time to throw a Bubble Gum Trick Worm in the backs of pockets and when the blooms fall off this bite dies off. Ive leaned on this for years and it works every spring catching good bags!
Here in Louisiana you will hear the older fisherman say that when the dogwood trees start blooming, the fish are starting to move in close to the banks. I have a lake close by that has a hot and cold side and every year, you can almost mark it on your calander, when the dew berries next to the boat are turning from red to black they are on leaning trees spawing. It only seems to be that particular lake that I've seen bc the spawn is usually a little later than the majority of the lakes close to it, but when you see those berries the right color you can bet you're gonna catch some big mama's that day
When the dogwoods bloom!
I used to pay attention my Orient pear before I cut it down. When the dogwood tree is blooming the crappie are spawning my dad always said. Not many dogwoods in my area.

Recently purchased one of your USA made sunshirts, and I really love it. Might have to get another and get some gloves too. Keep up the great work Tyler!
Those Bradford pears smell like fish so maybe they do know! Haha
hey Tyler, I’ve always heard when the dogwoods blooms here in N GA, crappie are spawning. However i’ve found if they’re blooming, the crappie have already started. 😂 Now we do have bradford pear trees too, so I’m gonna have to watch them this yr to see how it correlates to dogwoods. Good stuff!
I never pass up a willow tree that is in or on the edge of the water. Rarely do I not catch a bass around them.
@TylerBerger I have noticed that with Bradford Pear trees he where I'm located in eastern ky awesome video thank you for sharing all the tips and tricks.
I love these kinds of vids. We're at war with those invasive Bradfords here in the Ozarks, but those are great tips.
Tyler just got my sunshirts today I love them thank you! Going to get a few more in a bit.
Red bud trees here in Va are usually around the spawn.
In GA the Dogwood bloom is the old saying for me it means pick up a topwater
Another correlation, here in Cincinnati when the Honeysuckle blooms the bass are locked on their beds. They come off when the blossoms fall off.
Thanks for info!
Thank you Tyler for all you do!
Dogwood blooms?
I'd say that's true here in the Ozarks. Or, maybe the Redbuds would correlate better with the pre-spawn since they're usually a little ahead of the Dogwoods. I'll have to pay more attention this year.
Great info!
Thanks Tyler.
When the Dogwood blooms are the size of a mouses ear means the Crappie are starting to chew here in Central NC.
In South Carolina, I look for redbuds to indicate that the largemouth spawn is near.
When days get longer the dogwoods and Bradford pears bloom the bass are starting to prepare their beds is what I’ve heard.
That's what a real outdoorsman does.
Observe and learn
Before electronics
I'm in Texas 🤠 and when the Bluebonnet start showing the Bass are starting to move shallow👍👍👍 let you hear it from here first Tyler 🤓 I've know this for over 20 years🤫🤫🤫
I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one here in Texas that can't wait for the smell of skunk in the spring. It's nature waking up!
My name is Steve Rohaley live in mentor Ohio..
so in the spring when you see a dandelion the Smallies are on get your but on the lake….. 2 when you see the cottonwood flying…..it the end of the spawn….
I know you know my buddy Richie Glavic….. where do you live?
When the dogwoods bud up the crappie will come up shallow
The dogwood blooms in NJ
It’s. The ultraviolet rays from the sun. Does the same thing. Above and below the water. That’s part of. Making thing grow. Air water temperature.
Bradford tree is the worst tree invented. It grows fast but the limbs break easily once mature and the leaves are waxy when they fall so hard to chew up with mower.
Yes agreed. Took down so many while doing tree work
Not to mention they are horribly invasive and spread like wild fire. Awful tree and many towns in The St. Louis area have banned them.
What i. Have found is when the rodents are out in numbers there will be a good bite. Doesn't work all the time bust most of the time it does.
At the very least I’d say a good rat wakebait bite would be on !!
Also the mayfly’s falling off the tree in best time for top water. I mean the ULTIMATE time for topwater
"they're not even real trees.". 😂😂😂
When the dogwoods bloom the Specks , (Crappie) and Bass are Bedding... True Story..😅
Specks😂your from Okeechobee
@nancyzipperer8819 Well.. not quite that far down.. lol
When the redbuds bloom start hammering the respawn when the dogwoods go crappie cotton wood hammer the banks this holds true in central Ohio
Tyler, thought you were speaking at Columbus Expo this weekend, your name isn't on the schedule.....
I looked the other day and saw him down on Sunday at 2:00 I think, but don't see it now
Exactly.......guess I will save hotel money and stay home
Do you make full finger sun gloves?
Bradford Pear
That cotton is the worst. My lakes and rivers in upstate ny (great Sacandaga-which you NEED to do a video someone needs to go out there w FFS and show there’s more than 18-19 inch smallies in there. There’s a tonnnnn of smallmouth, and walleye, and world class pike, but so many smallies and I know there’s giants offshore- no one w technology fishes it though and it’s a major lake) but that cotton is the absolute worst it bunches together on your guises and then you get even bigger clumps wrapped up in your spool making it impossible to cast without removing your bait and letting out line and literally pulling it off the entire line 😩… but about the GSL.. EKF (elite kayak fishing) is coming to the GSL may 4th, I’ll be participating against elite kayak anglers with the highest end equipment and kayaks, I’ll be fishing out of a $500 kayak with no electronics, unable to stand with 80 pounds of tackle, but I can guarantee right now I’ll place in the money or win out. I’ve been fishing that lake 35 years, won two bassmaster weekend series tournaments with my father Sr. In 2009 and 2011 also getting big fish in one. I know where those fish are and what they want in may
Bay trees and magnolias .
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Someone said when the yellow pollen is on the water it is time to bed fish for bass .
All co-anglers are not created equal.
