u said it, marvel film cameras are flat, there is no depth. every cut, every camera Angel is predictable. the cgi is so clean that you can see the edges that separates the characters and green screen.
but in batman 2022 for example the camera is dirty, u can sense objects because of Lens focus. instead of green screen, they used monitors as background static of gotham. the cgi they used for the last 10 minutes is realistic and they've choosed a perfect color palette for movie.
In conclusion, dc movies tend to have a cinematic approach rather than being an amusement park.

    • @kishoratono1567
      @kishoratono1567 Před měsícem +5

So the movies are better because the camera is dirty? Your statement sounds little stupid. How's it flat? They literally have good aesthetics shots throughout different movies. Black panther, guardian of the Galaxy, just to bend free examples.
Although i would say these past 3 to 4 years where i would agree with your statement. But before that they were on to if their game.
And if marvel movies are predictable so are DC. What makes it so difference just because it's a lot mysterious? If i was a dc fan watching the Batman i would've guessed what happened but it didn't take the enjoyment out of the movie.
What I'm saying is saying the movie is predictable is a invalid reason and meaningless. Along with being that you can see the "edges" because the cgi so clean? Like what? You not making any sense...

As a Marvel Fan i admittedly judge their movies as having no colors, bland colors and the costumes looking like they were all made by the same person and the predictability of shots, not to mention how they all incorporate tech into their skillsets that it kinda made the characters not have distinction to one another. I noticed later films tried to change that but time will tell if the cinematography would improve. Although this may not be related but Marvel's ability to make such memorable , relatable, and compelling stories are what made the franchise such a success and when you watch something that hooks you to the characters and their stories, you kinda don't care how it looks in camera, what matters is still the story.

I didn't noticed it until now but DC films do feel alot more like the vision of their creators
from way back with Superman 1978 to the Dark Knight trilogy
even now with the Wonder Woman movies, Zack Snyder's trilogy, The Batman, Joker, The Suicide Squad and the many more films that came before and are to to come with James Gunn's new upcoming DCU with a heavy focus on creator's vision
don't get me wrong I am not in any shape or form talking about critical or commercial success especially when in comparison to Marvel I am talking about the feel and tone which always varies and feels distinct from project to project and clearlt reflects the Director's take on these characters and this world
and with exceptions like all the MCU Phase 1 movies or James Gunn's the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy or some offshots like Multiverse of Madness with Sam Raimi
I don't see a creator's vision coming out of these movies they all just.... blend in
like watching all 3 MCU Spider Man movies gave me absolutely no idea on Jon Watts's vision as a director unlike say Jon Favreau with his Iron Man

Not entirely... but when it comes to content? Marvel Animations is about to make the MCU look like a complete and utter peasant.
      Why?
Becuase that brand has the keys to have creative freedom! Look at how amazing X-Men '97 looks with its art style and visual aesthetic.
Something the MCU barely tries to achieve for their films.
      No cinematic creativity.
Even though Marvel Animations will serve the MCU in some form or way! They have the keys to do whatever they want and create whatever they want with full creative vision while not having the MCU breathe down their neck.

Superman's my favorite DC character. Do I like Man of Steel? Yes. Do I think Superman needs to be all dark and depressed? No. He's a guy wearing red and blue spandex with undies over his pants and a freakin cape. How can you take yourself THAT seriously while wearing that? Notice that Marvel characters with really elaborate and colorful costumes tend to take themselves less seriously. Like Iron Man and Spider-Man. And then there's Captain America. Yeah he's wearing the American flag, but he's more serious than his counterparts because he's a soldier. He's not a rich boy in an armor or a high school kid in spandex. He's a soldier, and those are his uniform. It's a symbol from a time where the US was a beacon of hope, and the people in the Marvel universe look to Captain America for hope because that's what he represents by wearing red, white and blue. So just because a movie looks darker doesn't mean it's better.

honestly, that's why I liked marvel projects like Loki, both doctor strange films, Avengers AoU, Wandavision, and the netflix shows. They have a visual style that's different from the standard cookie cutter MCU projects. Even the Iron Man films had a lot of dirty and raw shots that made it feel real while still keeping the superhero tone up. The first Thor films had a lot of dutch angles which I honestly liked but many didn't. AoU, a film criticized by many for absolutely no reason at all, has a lot of beautiful shots that reflect the tone of the scene or conversations. The dinner party, the scenes with ultron, the banters between banner and tony, all of it have colour gradings that reflect the tone. The Iron Man vs Hulk fight also had a lot of cool shots that made it iconic. The winter soldier too, had a lot of raw shots that made it feel a lot more grounded than say Civil War. I think, ultimately, the reason why Marvel doesn't incorporate cool cinematography is due to the audience. Some appreciate darker tones, some prefer light, some prefer wider shots, some prefer more blurred shots. Instead of trying to please everyone with these, they please no one and try to keep it simple to focus more on the quality of the shot rather than the way its shot.
You'll really see a more creative direction from Phase 1 and Phase 4, the so called black sheep of the Marvel films.

It's fascinating how much solely on visuals we perceive things differently.
MCU have dark and thoughtful storyline like Winter Soilder and Civil War.
In WS the scene where Zola describes people ironically giving away there privacy to protect that very thing , gave me chills. Honestly, it's haunting to imagine being surrounded by nothing other than machine and it tells you how it's manipulating humans into submission that even by their own will.
But I think most tend to forgot this critical scene bcs it is shot in generic style. If that same Zola scene was shot in The Batman style, with intricate camera dynamic and immersive perspective & sound then it would hv impacted lot strongly. Creating a lasting impression.
By the way, Deadpool and Wolverine looks pretty good. The director did insist on shooting in real life location which is paying off.
So I guess , Feige might from now on let director hv more say.
I hope if MK movie gets made they bring Matt Reeve or a director with tasteful cinematography bcs the contrast of white suit with dark background and a gaint Moon glowing behind MK will be iconic. But it can only be done with accomplished cinematographer.

Id say Marvel definitely aims more for the “futuristic sci fi” theme in its art direction while DC tries to be more gritty and dark. Marvel’s visuals are cleaner and more refined to communicate the idea of a society superior to our own, while DC’s visuals are typically dirtier and more muted to convey that this world is less of a technological utopia and more of a grimy, almost dystopian society where life might actually be worse than it is irl. DC falls flat when it assumes it is Marvel's competition. That's when they release trash like BvS and Justice League.
After making WATCHMEN, that shoulve been the point they realized how special they really are. I don't understand why they lowered themselves after Man of Steel to do those "power ranger amusement park" films.
Thank God, Matt Reeves has revived that DC flamboyance. THE BATMAN has brought back that feeling i got from WATCHMEN.

One question, why the heck use a shot (0:50) from Joss Whedon's Justice League??? That's literally the most Marvel movie DC has. That's not even considered canon by the fans. That single shot looks atrocious compared to the beautiful photography of Fabian Wagner in ZSJL.

I would like to point out the difference between Marvel and DC as clear as day: Do NOT compare the MCU with art house DC flicks. If comparison is what you want, try Blade 1998, original XMen and Spiderman Trilogies, Iron man 1(only that one), Deadpool, Logan , Spiderverse etc. MCU movies except Iron Man 1 are not worth comparing, they're simply made to be time passer cinema. The Infinity Saga managed to be the greatest cinematic experiences and perfected the "formula". Even the formula went stale after a while. There are tons of darker and deeper stories from the comics in Marvel begging to be adapted, but sadly the Disney overlords will never get the guts to adapt those, not to mention "THE MESSAGE". I would also point out that the failure of the DCEU is what led to the films like Joker and THE Batman to be made. If a fair comparison has to be made, go compare Snyderverse films and other post-Snyder DCEU films: in that case atleast Marvel would have a competitive edge

DC fails cos they rarely give any other heroes a chance and when they fail when they try one like Green Lantern, they go back to Batman.
Marvel succeeds from comic book failure by giving different studios the right to make films. Hence, Fox Sony and Paramount were able to introduce different characters. 70+ characters have been introduced to live action. Whilst DC only has 15+
Also, every time they introduce batman they fail to give us his sidekicks.
Why does Joker have his own film, its completely unnecessary

Marvels problem isn't that the movies look too clean, we were all emersed in endgame and when spiderman first appeared. The only issue with marvel is its new age social justice storylines its forcing on everyone. That is what pulls us out of the universe and makes us realize its just a Hollywood pandering movie.
