Way to go! Today I cut my first bike chain. Couldn't find a tool locally for anything reasonable in price, so bought a cheapo online, AFTER I played around with a jerry-rig using a vise, a sharpened bolt and a couple of nuts. Was taking too long and I needed another pair of hands, so blew it off and waited 3 days for my cheapo to arrive. So I watch this and feel like a fool---never would've thought of a hinge. Thanks a lot!...lol
A lot of people saying it's faster & easier to buy a proper chain breaking tool. This is still an easy thing to make if you have an old hinge & bolt available when shops closed or tool not in stock. Great idea 👍
Absolutely, here our mechanics use hammer, nut and bolt which is very harmful for chain, u can fix it temprory but for long run it is not useful, this method is best for us as tools are not possible to be available here
Brilliant idea for someone like me, I only need one of those tools once every few years, and it seems rather silly to buy one. I have done it in the past with a center punch, the hard way. Next time I will definitely use this tip.

@@NatNetNitNotNut I'm speaking as a poor person, the other tools he used is available in every home, I've it long time ago, plus It's not required to be its owner, but the bike tools not available in every home, what i see in the video is a really good effective way, it cost me at most 7 local pounds but this bike tool will cost me 40 local pounds and this is the least price here!

Good idea if you put the bolt on before you start grinding your guaranteed not to have a problem with a crossthread in case the threads get messed up during the grinding

This method also needs an electric drill and an electric disc grinder. I would simply go with just buying a chain cutter, too.
