Is There REALLY Pink Sand in BERMUDA?? Can We Find It??? (Norwegian Pearl Cruise)

  • Can we find pink sand in Bermuda? We have heard it exists... but can we find some??? This is day two of our Bermuda adventures and we hop back on our scooter, which we were able to park in front of the ship for the night, and head over to Horseshoe Bay Beach. This is the most famous beach in Bermuda and one of the top beaches in all of the world... and we see why! It. isstunningly beautiful and the water is so clear... but is there any pink sand???
We continue our exploration of the island with lunch at Coconuts, right on the beach followed by a daunting climb up to the top of the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. It was a climb but so worth the panoramic views from the top! You can see the entire island of Bermuda from up there!
And what about the fish sandwich at Woodys???? They were too busy when we stopped yesterday, but we were able to get one today! Which is better... fried Haddock or grilled Wahoo fish? We tried both in the two days...

FYI: Anyone visiting Bermuda, Horseshoe Beach is world famous. HOWEVER, thousands of tourist go there week in and week out trampling the pink sand away. Imagine ships arriving week in and week out carrying between two and six THOUSAND passengers each. BUT if you walk just a few coves down towards Chaplin Bay and Especially Warwick Long Bay. It’s less visited but the sand is SUPER pink! Trust me!! Literally a 5 minute walk on the trail. These beaches are just as big and beautiful but because they don’t have the huge concessions and chair rentals it’s less visitors. But AWESOME video!

Bermudian ex-bartender checking in. First off, thanks for visiting and documenting your travels! It's always a distinct pleasure to see our island through the lens of visitors. With regards to the swizzle, you'll find a lot of Bermudians swear by letting swizzle rest for a few days after being mixed, so swizzle made a few days in advance and then stored in large jars is actually quite common amongst locals especially out on boats, house parties, and at the beach. Just letting you know so you don't feel like you got ripped off, you actually got a much more local experience. Hopefully they topped it off with some extra rum after pouring from the jar though (that's also the local way). Off to watch the rest of the video! Thanks again for visiting, hopefully we'll see you back someday.

Horseshoe Bay is nice but I like St. Catherine's Beach more. It's over in St. George. Those Rum Swizzles are AMAZING!!!! Did you guys see any "Moon Gates"? The locals say if you take a pic while standing in the Gate on your Honeymoon your Marriage will last for all ages. Well my wife and I just had our 19th Anniversary on May 24th. Thanks for choosing Bermuda to vacation. Next time head down to the Tuckers Point Beach near the Mid Ocean club, Smiths Parish. It is private but you can still get access to the beach and find the most pink sand than on any other beach.
By the way the prettiest beaches are in this area including Windsor Beach which is private and the beach in the nature reserve on Clearwater Beach St Davids.
    Regards

Also a traditional Bermuda fish sandwich is fried white fillet with coleslaw and tartar sauce. My personal favourite is cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, tartar sauce, and hotsauce. It's to die for.
PS I am a St Davids Islander, the home of the best Bermudian seafood classics like fish chowder, conch fritters, fish sandwiches, and half shell lobster.

Also the weather on that day was a high of 74 degrees farenheit ( low was 68 ) . We don`t think 80 is cold lol.... its 77 today May 26th and we`re all at the beach and using a/c when we get home....But really great views of our country and cuisine ! When I make my friends receipe for Rum Swizzes, I freeze it and all the juices and liquor really get better with time. I LOVE ME A RUM SWIZZLE BY THE POOL, but you have to be very careful because they are so good. I love Horseshoe Bay it is beautiful. We went in May and the ocean was very cold. I did put my feet in it, but that was it. I love Bermuda, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Fourways Inn Restaurant is a very nice restaurant. It is beautiful on the inside made with special Bermuda wood. Like you said before, it is very expensive. My friend used to come here and we would go shopping and he would take things back with him, things were cheaper here in North Carolina. Your videoes of Bermuda bring back so many memories of Bermuda. The houses all have white roofs to collect their water from the rain. They have a filtering system for their running water. Families are only allowed one car because the island is so small. I love Bermuda.

Hey you guys, another Bermudian here. Glad you guys enjoyed your trip. Your footage is awesome! If you guys come back, shoot for Mid June. There's the hero's day holiday, the water will be warmer and summer will be in full swing. Aside from the Rum Swizzle, also try Bermuda's other national drink....the Dark-n-Stormy! Fish sandwiches are a point of pride for our local restaurants, to the point that competitions are held. Regarding the pink sand...Horseshoe Beach is certainly the most popular, however the sand is very fine, the beach to the East of it, Long Bay Beach, the sand is a bit more corse and you can really see the pink granules better. Cheers you guys!

my hubby and i love your channel so much, and i think i tried to lovingly mention this before, but not sure you saw it so i would like it just mention again. I am 58, never heard of an “a1c” blood test before, no dr ever offered it, until i saw videos about it right here on youtube. soooo, i asked for one for my hubby and me and sure enough, we are both pre diabetic. please, consider getting this, its a 3 month average blood insulin/sugar test vs a one day blood sugar/glucose level test, that tells you if you are going in the wrong direction. i love food as much as you all do, but your hubby has the right idea, cut those carbs but still enjoy food. all i am asking is that you get that a1c test. you do NOT have to fast 10 hours for the a1c, as its an average, but you do for the one day glucose test, but your body works hard to regulate everyday blood sugar so it doesnt tell if your a1c level is too high so the a1c tells if you are becoming pre diabetic, which is reversible, where full blown type 2 may not be, so, im begging you, out of love, to just get the test. i had to push my hubby to get his and, like i said, we are both pre diab, and i knew we were getting there just by signs and things that were going on with us. so, we dont suffer at all, but we cut back the carbs here and there and we both lowered our a1c, but we have a little more to go and will test again soon. love you guys!

Would have loved to have known you were heading to Bermuda. If you want a Swizzle, you should have gone to the Swizzle Inn. It is before the causeway that leads to the airport and St. Georges. To answer your question from yesterday, most of my Bermuda cruises have been with high school classmates. Many in the group get off the ship when it docks, and get back on when it is time to sail. The first time I made the trip to the top of the light house was in 1962.

When I was in Bermuda in October, a local explained that the pink sand is slowly disappearing. It was caused by a type of red coral in the area that can tolerate the cooler water temps of the North Atlantic, but the coral’s been going extinct, so the beaches will be less pink as time goes on until the coral goes completely extinct

So sad. The wife and I were in Bermuda over 25 years ago and the pink sand was everywhere. Deep pink.

Im Bermudian n Ive never heard dat one b4 (colour disappearin). Maybe its true but as far as d pink color goes, it comes from d corals n shells.

You're 100 percent right. Less coral- less pink sand. and it's not slowly disappearing. It's close to gone. (Bermudian)

Not pink pink but when u put it in a glass and take home there are pink coral within in it…yes rum swizzle is good as well as the ‘Bermuda triangle’ alcoholic drink. ..👍 the scooters are the best way to get around..other than tAking the pink buses….The Reefs resort is good too…lots of beaches in Bermuda that are beautiful…Coopers Island is fabulous..not many people..but only accessible by scooter..yep been up Gibbs lighthouse…yikes didn’t like the high…the BUEI exploration centre is gr8 too

Thank you so much for visiting our beautiful island. You showcased the beauty of my island home very well. I'm curious to know if you were actually able to get the sand back to your home. Many people have tried and failed because taking sand from the beach is actually prohibited 😄.

I agree that cruises should have multiple days in one port. Most Island drinks at bars have cruise prices.

I live in Bermuda, 1 you really shouldn't take sand from any beach cuz there is bacteria, just like shells and cedar wood and 2 its not the rum swizzle, its just rum swizzle. we Bermudians make it almost every weekend in our kitchens to last us threw the week of having to live in this hell hold.

Hellhole? Bermuda? Oh, well, we all think the grass is greener on the other side. Having cruised to Bermuda many times, I would love to get to know some Bermudians, experience living there for a while. Never going to happen, but one can dream, lol.

I got stung by a Portuguese Man O War when I was 4 years old in Ft Lauderdale. It was mixed in with some seaweed in the sand, and I stepped right on it. I remember screaming and some man scooped me up (with my mother in tow) and ran me to the life guard hut where they poured ammonia on my foot to relieve the sting. That was 50+ years ago and I still remember how much it hurt 😢
