  • This is a commercial I shot in 1990 for my 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham. In the process of preparing this for upload, I added digital enhancements which were not available when this was videotaped. Originally, this was shot and edited on a 1989 Magnavox VHS camcorder.

This actually looks good enough to be legit for the 80's. Great job!

Thank you. Someday I'd like to re-edit this completely with the original VHS tapes.

Why, thank you. Nope, this was my '85 Cutlass. I shot the video in 1990, and edited it in 2009. So I was able to use some digital editing techniques that weren't available back in the day. I tried to make it look 'original.'
My Dad has a '57 Chevy in his garage, and someday I hope to have a restored Cutlass Supreme Classic in mine.

Considering it's been 18 years since you saw this last, I consider that a compliment!

Man, you can still see some of these being driven in Chicago. They`re nice when they`re reconditioned.

LOL! Thanks! One of those demonstrator tapes is where I got this song. I actually have two of them. They are among some of my prized possessions.

I bought the Cutlass in this video in 1989.
1.5 million Oldsmobile Cutlasses of this body style (G-Body) were built between 1980 and 1988. It was the best selling car in the United States starting in 1976 until well into the 1980s. It is currently the 13th best selling car in the history of world auto sales. Almost 12 million Cutlasses were sold between 1961 and 1999.

No, I bought it used in 1988 from a dealer. The funny thing was, the original owner was a parent of a friend from high school. I didn't find that out until after I bought it and got the title.

Very good job, thumb up. The only thing it's missing is the 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme at the end in white lettering with the gold "Oldsmobile" in cursive. Other than that, you had me fooled. :)

Wait, this seriously isn't a real commercial?? I really thought it was before I read the description, it's so similar to other Olds commercials of the time.

This is a sad video to watch!!! When Oldsmobile used that song; and when they built your car; they were selling over 1 million cars a year!!1 Now, you haven't been able to buy a new Oldsmobile in over 5 years!!! Plus, pretty soon, you won't be able to buy a new Pontiac or Saturn either!!!!

  • @Nicktyelor3

I feel so bad for anyone who had to live through the 80s and drive this. I'm surprised they're not blind today. What were car designers thinking back then? I appreciate the modern designs in my era now.
On another gripe, could there be a worse name for a car company than Oldsmobile???
