In this episode, we are exploring the city of LUCKNOW in INDIA! A city rich with history, and an even richer cuisine. Youâll find the city is dotted with tons of delicious INDIAN STREET FOOD - and today weâll be showing the best spots in Lucknowâs Chowk and beyond.
We started our day having breakfast at Sharma Ji Ki Chai for their famous samosa, butter buns and chai (70 INR / 0.70 USD). The best part about this place was the atmosphere, right on the side of the street!
We hopped into a rickshaw toward Chowk for something we were so excited to try: LUCKNOW BIRYANI. For that, we went to Idrees Biryani. When we arrived, they were just starting to prepare the biryani from scratch, so we were able to watch the entire cooking process! The wait was WORTH IT! The mutton biryani was PERFECT: oily, rich and infused with mutton flavour (120 INR / 1.68 USD each).
ïżœSince we were full, we decided to do a little sightseeing. We went to the historical Bara Imambara - a complex which houses a gorgeous mosque, impressive gate and Mughal architecture. The grounds provide a relaxing escape from the city bustle, but unfortunately, we were the on a Friday and not allowed to enter. There are rumours that there is an extensive tunnel system underneath the complex, with one reaching all the way to Delhi.
Since we were in Lucknow, we HAD to eat mutton NIHARI as well. We went to Mubeenâs to taste this dish. It was smothered in a rich gravy and was quite oily. Their kitchen was the most interesting sight, watching the chefs prepare different rumali roti FAST and fresh, and all of the pots of different Indian specialties (125 INR / 1.75 USD).
Next was the quintessential Lucknowi specialty: TUNDAY KEBAB! We ventured deep into Chowk to find the original Tunday Kababi shop which opened in 1905, and the dish dating back to the 17th century. These buffalo kebabs are designed to be eaten without teeth, and are supposed to melt in your mouth. The meat is so finely minced, that it has the consistency of a paste! The kebabs are also infused with 150+ different spices, and at this original location, cooked over charcoal (30 INR / 0.42 USD per 4 pieces).
To end our incredible day of eating street food in Lucknow, we wanted dessert! Kulfi faluda back in Aminbad was the perfect way to wash down all of that meat! The shop, Prakash Ki Mashoor Kulfi, was making the kulfi outside on the street. It was delicious (60 INR / 0.84 USD).

That biryani looks amazing, I would wait for that to be made also đ I love biryani, never tried mutton before. The food always looks fantastic in India, authentic Indian is the best.
Yes totally worth the wait!! The mutton was the best!
Mutton has very low fat and tastes exactly like lamb. Bodybuilders now prefer Mutton to lamb because of that. I am very sure that mutton is available in Sydney as i had it in a restaurant there.
In North India...all You gonna get is Chicken & Mutton.
Idrees biryani is very good, try to eat with hand and also not forget to add mutton gravy in it, really doubles the tasteđ

In my humble opinion....Indian food is the best food in the world, I love all sorts but damn Indian has sooo much going on with it. Itâs the spices that I love so much
oh yeah its amazing!
6:00 those aren't shredded carrots those are coloured rice though it looks like carrots. đđđŒ
And that red sauce is not spice its saffron (might have some added color) water which is making those pieces of rice red
Of course they are shredded carrots. Luke is right: Biriyani REQUIRES shredded carrots. Stop speaking ignorantly.
@@TWOCOWS1 Haha OK :)
@@TWOCOWS1 you're wrong mate
My parents are from Lucknow, so I have eaten at all the places mentioned in this travel vlog. BTW, the Idris biryani does not have carrots. It is just rice coloured with saffron and turmeric.
Great series so far !
(Just to let you know, the orange grains in Biryani arent carrots, they are just few grains that got colored from the saffron they put in )

But definitely, you missed some....Had I known you were here, I would have recommended you some unique places to visit or would've given you a food tour myself.
Loving your India series. Love!
And I would say that Old Lucknow can be a bit crude (But some of the most delicious food is there so it cannot be skipped)
But if you are here in Lucknow to explore, there are pretty good places to visit.
(Some of them which I can remember are Lulu Mall (Asia's largest mall), CMS (world's largest school), Janeshwar park (Asia's largest garden), numerous gardens.
I hope it helped some people!

You had the best pulav in India. They prefer not to call it biryani which is normally called.
The kebab was for toothless navab. So the texture was melt in mouth.
You could have the sheermal bread with nihari Rather than roti. In nahari the flavour is more in top red layer. Which you avoided. It was the best in India. They are icons.

@Luke Martin...As an FYI, kulfi (Kool -fee) is an ice cream from the 16th /17th century. The Mughal rulers sitting in Delhi (and the plains) had camel and elephant caravans laden with ice brought down from the Himalayas for their sherbets and to make kulfi during the summer months.
Must've been good to be king!
