El Médano Tenerife, a place to visit.🌞

El Médano is located about 11 kilometers from the town of Granadilla, reaching an average altitude of 75 m a.s.l. no. m.
The town is divided into the nuclei of: El Médano, Arenas del Mar, El Cabezo, El Topo and Ensenada Pelada.
El Médano has the educational centers Colegio de Educación Infantil y Primaria El Médano and C.E.I.P. Montaña Pelada, the El Médano Secondary School, with offices of the Granadilla City Council's Citizen Attention and Information and Tourism Service, a civic center for the Third Age, a House of Culture, a doctor's office, a shopping center and a market, with the parish church of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes de Roja and a hermitage, a post office, various banks, a Civil Protection headquarters and another for the Red Cross, a pharmacy, a municipal mortuary, several gas stations, as well as numerous apartments, bars, restaurants and other small shops. Next to the highway and the San Isidro neighborhood is the Granadilla Farmer's Market.
There are several public squares in El Médano as places of recreation, highlighting those of Médano, Magallanes (known as Red Square), Galicia and La Ermita, as well as playgrounds and sports facilities -municipal soccer field, basketball court and sports center -2​ There is also a continuous promenade on the coast of the entire town, although its sections have different names. This promenade joins Montaña Pelada and the beach of the same name with the pier and the beaches on the opposite side of the town. From this walk you can access the hiking trails that lead to the Red Mountain.
The ITER Renewable Energy Technological Institute and part of the Granadilla Industrial Estate are also located in the town. It is also worth mentioning the Cave of Santo Hermano Pedro, a place of pilgrimage for many believers.
In its landscape, the one known as Montaña Roja stands out, a natural space protected under the category of natural monument, and which corresponds to a volcanic cone that presents a caldera approximately 1 kilometer in diameter, formed by successive explosions resulting from the violent vaporization of the sea ​​waters.

In the town, the Leocadio Machado beach stands out, popularly called del Médano, which has an average length of approximately 750 meters and an average width of 43 meters. The beach has been awarded the European Blue Flag since 2004, with changing rooms and showers.This beach inspired Leocadio Machado, a Nautical professor and Doctor of Laws, to write the novel "El loco de la playa", published by LA PRENSA in 1925, which recounts the arrival in El Médano of a doctor, Don Luis Gilpérez, and his daughter María, on a boat from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife dock, which they used to do every summer despite the difficulties they suffered, avoiding waves and winds until they disembarked and reached the only inn that there was then. on the beach, “La morenita”, where, as soon as he arrived, he was warned of the presence of an unknown man who spent days and nights between the mountains of Bocinegro and Roja, talking to himself and yelling at the sea, whom they called “ the madman on the beach”, which had its few inhabitants terrified.
The coast of El Médano is frequently buffeted by the wind, which makes it an area for windsurfing, kitesurfing and even kite flying. Competitions of these and other sports disciplines are held annually, some of them within the international arena, valid for national and world championships, etc.
The small coves of El Cabezo, El Salado, La Jaquita, De Pelada and La Rajita are also located here.
