The Magnus Carlsen interview after he won World Rapid and Blitz 2022 | It's a tradition now!

  • "It takes 3 times to make something a tradition", is what Magnus Carlsen told us in Warsaw after the World Rapid and Blitz 2021. He was referring to the fact that we had interviewed him after 2019 event and then in 2021. And so in order to make it a tradition, we ensured that we did it third time around as well, this time in 2022 at Almaty, Kazakhstan where Magnus had won the gold in both rapid and blitz formats!
So, we asked Magnus after the closing ceremony if we could come to his hotel to do an interview and the champion obliged. This interview shows Magnus in a different light as the World Champion speaks his mind and tells us about his true feelings during both the events that he played. He shows us his human side. We hope you enjoy this 19 minute interview with the man who is arguably the greatest chess player in the history of the sport.

Sometimes we underestimate the amount of effort Sagar and Amrutha have to put in just to be 100% equipped for an interview with Magnus, yet managing to keep it fun loving and enjoyable. Then to edit the videos in near real time and put it up on youtube. It makes me feel once in a while how difficult would it be for us to access premium chess content without you guys... I have very few words to explain what you guys have been doing for chess. Oh wait I have 2... "Thank You".

And certainly your interviews are more enjoyable and show more of the personal sides of the players because you are just nice guys asking interesting questions, better than these standard questions that are flooding the FIDE channel e.g. You give it a more personal touch with your style of questioning, being humble and all around appreciative. Magnus rarely feels completely comfortable in interviews like this, so seing him outgoing and comfortable like this is a credit to your personalities as well. Honestly, I love you guys and wish you all the best, btw (a little bit off-topic) also for the amazing Indian chess players your country creates. Great work and all the best from Germany 🇩🇪

Number one channel for interviews and backstage insights and of course the great funny content with players like Vidit Gujrathi, Anish Giri and so on. Simply incredible! This is certainly one of the best interviews of Magnus as he himself is interested in interacting with Sagar and Amruta.
Kudos to both of you for this amazing interview.

Damn really makes you realize how much better these interviews are when they're done by genuinely passionate respectful players. At least I assume the guy plays Chess. You got some pretty interesting insights here and kept it fun, nice work.

magnus loves chess the way he speaks after the age of 30 is just completely different from earlier. I remember i first saw in 2013 world championship at that point it felt like he was a genius who do not want to talk to public and now the way he was explaining his game against richard is totally different from 2013 magnus

Magnus has been giving great interviews to you Sagar. This one is truly special as I have never seen Magnus speaking so candidly aside from his twitch streams ofcourse, but it's great to know his thoughts on classical chess because I also think that it is getting boring with all the draws but it should not go away as the quality of play is higher so fischer random as classical would be amazing or something else to incentivise players to take risks and fight hard. It's good to know that he will still play few classical tournaments every year.

Magnus is king of chess for probably another few years. Before he won the classical title back in 2013 he had been the de facto strongest player in the world for many years but he had to prove in in classical match situations. Now he has decided to give up playing more computer preps than he has to. Doesn't matter as long as he keeps winning every format, he's still the GOOT
