    that friendly plastic is thermoplastic I think, which means it's a re-usable and moldable plastic. it's great for little repairs around the house (I no longer have to throw stuff out if i can't find a replacement part, I can often make it myself instead)

    • @noaccount2494
      @noaccount2494 Před rokem +17

      Thermoplastic is basically just HDPE #2 plastic which is the same stuff they make bottle caps and milk jugs out of. So if you're ever in a pinch you can recycle some that way. Brothers Make on youtube have some great tips about it

    I just found this out a few weeks ago but there's 2 different kinds of gouache! Acrylic gouache or watercolor gouache. The ones you bought are the acrylic based so they act more like an acrylic and won't reactivate as easily as the watercolor gouache. Both have that nice matte finish that gouache is known for. I'd be really interested to know how the pink soap compares with your baby shampoo, Chloe. I've always used a white, perfume-free toilet soap, if needed, and if the brushes lose their touch, I'll treat them with a simple hair conditioner. I have brushes from the 1980's that are still in good condition (Winsor and Newton Sceptre Gold and Sceptre Gold II), as are my sable Rosemary and Co brushes, and I was painting at least twice a week with groups until I moved here to France.
    It was Rosemary, of Rosemary and Co who actually told us (it was at an art fair. She was showing her products) about the soap and conditioner, so it came from someone who really knows her stuff! It's where I bought my first R & Co brushes and I'm still using those brushes. So I tend to get a bit upset when people are paying money for branded brush care products that are unnecessary.
    So yes, please, would you do a comparison of the two, maybe done over a period of time? 😊

I’m a professional artist & I used to use Liquitex heavy body but I recently discovered Golden Open acrylics and completely switched 😅 Golden are my favourite now, I love the Open ones for the slower drying time, means less paint waste as well as nicer blending, glazing and layering. I find them a lot nicer to work with too. Their metal tubes are also an additional plus point for me.

    Golden is 100% my favorite. I use both heavy body and fluid paints depending on what I'm going for. The colors are so much more vibrant, and keep you from having to use more coats to create the same look. I used to use liqiudtex, but have switched to only using golden with my canvases. Yet. when painting clay, I've learned that golden makes the clay melty. So for that I use liqiudtex.

    • @robingray2331
      @robingray2331 Před rokem +3

      I agree that Golden is a superlative brand. The company is worker owned, something I appreciate in addition to the quality of the paints. I've used fluids the most, and they are highly pigmented. On their vlog someone asked how long the paints should last, and the answer was "forever'.( I assume that means properly stored.} I've not had to buy paints to replace them unless I've used them up, so I can attest they will last for a long time.

    Holy cow I wish there was a store like that near me 🤩 I totally understand that weird easel with the bench. When I’m sitting for extended periods of time working on art I actually pull my piano bench up to the table to get the pressure off the back of my thighs. It’s also a little better on the back for me.
    I haven’t tried liquitex, but I did buy one bottle of white golden fluid acrylics. Reason being is I use plaid pants, I needed a better quality white because the cheaper brands have a weird consistency and I got tired of fussing with cheap white paint.
    I’m really looking forward to trying your brush set, I’ve got some projects coming up that I want to paint with them 😁

    Hi! someone who does graphic design for an art store on the east coast! Golden has better mediums then Liquitex and their high fluid is more like Liquitex's acrylic ink. Other then that I would say quality wise on the normal heavy body paints are pretty similar. Keep in mind that the Liquitex does have their BASICS brand and Acrylic Gouache as well, and that is something Golden doesn't have.

    Hullo Chloe! You are truly inspirational, a joy to watch! I have used both Liquitex and Golden’s acrylic paints and I like Liquitex more as both are top level brands but you must pay for the extra advertising! Acrylic paint is the one kind of paint that you can use the cheaper brands and unless you buy the very watery types they all work well as they are all the same level of plastic! Acrylics are unique in they only have a specific amount of medium and they just don’t have more the more expensive you buy! You can add pigment to a brand and sometimes that can be a reason for higher expense. Thank you for sharing your trip to this art store, your a fun date! Please take care and enjoy your day!

    Chloe, don't know if you'll ever see this 11 months later, but for easels, there is a lyre-style (A-frame) easel type that starts under $100 and goes up to $300+. Many art suppliers sell them. They are one of the most common and affordable types of easels. I bought one a few years ago for around $100 on sale. I was able to put it together fairly easily and it serves my needs just fine for the present. I will likely want a bigger, fancier and more versatile one in the future, but this one should serve me well for now.

    Funny you mention versus Golden and Liquitex. My university teacher required us to buy Golden acrylics so we could get a feel for high quality paints with a much higher pigment load than cheap acrylics. However, since graduating I'm moving towards Liquitex acrylics because I like the cap better. Haven't used them long term yet, but I got tired of pulling my pliers out every time I wanted to open a tube of Golden Acrylic paint.

    Golden has a higher pigment load than liquitex meaning they are a bit better colour wise, richer and doesn't break down when mixed with other mediums. I've found Golden seem to have a wider selection of colours too, bigger range of hues.

    I so want to go to that shop! I prefer Golden acrylics to liquitex

    I’m from California and I’ve never heard of it🤯. Now I live in Oregon so the next time I go down there, I will check this out. We are severely restricted as to the number of suitcases we can take on a plane, so I might have to have my haul shipped.😜

    Dude I love two dots! It's one of my go-to games.. the scavenger hunts are my favorite ❤ turn the sound on for it... they all make cute noises and for some voices you can find someone who makes that noise in every scavenger hunt... so it's really fun searching for who's gonna make that noise on this one. My favorite is a seemingly female dot who goes "Arrr!" in the cutest little voice and she's usually wearing a pirate hat but not always, and the dot itself looks totally different so it's not the same "person " each time. I love searching her out every time along with the items.
    Important note: make sure you record your game ID or properly link the account to Facebook or whatever before you change phones..... I thought it was ok with Google play, but turns out I didn't have it set up right and I lost everything. They were nice enough to work with me and help with at least getting me set up on a new account and back to my previous level with roughly the same coins and bonus things I had, even though they couldn't do anything about the lost portraits and awards and everything else

    I wish a store like that was close to me!! Just my opinion, but I think both Liquitex and Golden are high quality and worth the prices. There are levels of quality (Basic/student vs. Professional/Artist), the main difference between the quality levels is the pigment load, it's higher in the professional version, so you get very saturated paint that can be mixed without becoming washed out or dull too soon, and both brands make really good paint. Both let you know on the label if they're "transparent" or "opaque" so you know how they'll react with mixed/thinned, but Golden's tubes have actual paint on them over a striped background so you can see just how transparent/opaque the color is. I've been using the Liquitex Professional "Soft body" which comes in squeeze bottles and I love it! Even though it is thinner in viscosity than the heavy body, it's just as opaque and colorful as Heavy Body, but it glides across the surface with little effort in a smooth application. So depending on your preference, you can have a smooth painting or one with raised brush strokes. (I got a chance to test the Liquitex cadmium-free version when it first came out, and the cad-free red alongside the original cadmium version is a perfect duplicate!)

    If you're looking for Zebra pens, check out your local Dollar Tree. The stores in my area usually have a few. I've also seen their colored mechanical pencils. They make a quick dry ink that writes reliably on receipt paper (and if you work retail, you know what a pain in the ass that paper is).

    OMG! I love to shop for art supplies, just to have them. Would be nice if I started using some of them. 😃 FYI: Murphy's Oil Soap is awesome for cleaning brushes. If you forget to clean an oil brush, soak it overnight and the paint will come out. I think it works for acrylic too, but alcohol also works for acrylic. I've been using Murphy's to clean my brushes after every few uses for 30 years.

    In Australia (the part where I am, anyway), Liquitex is far more common and affordable, where Golden costs a lot more. But I personally like the Golden paints better!
