  • The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that American presidents cannot be prosecuted for crimes committed while performing official duties. The decision in the country’s highest court means Donald Trump is unlikely to face charges for allegedly attempting to overthrow the 2020 U.S. election. Trump’s lawyers argued the former U.S. President was entitled to presidential immunity during his time in office - a rare protection that shields individuals from legal action.
In today's deep dive, we'll explain the context behind the decision and what it will actually mean for the U.S. moving forward.

Important context is missing here: Presidential immunity does not mean that the President is unaccountable for wrongdoing. The US Constitution allows the President to be impeached and tried by Congress. It is possible (as in, it is an unresolved legal question) that once a President is impeached and convicted by Congress, he or she may then be prosecuted criminally.
The reason for this system is to prevent any single prosecutor from stopping the President in performing his official duties (i.e. with pretextual charges that are political in nature). Only the democratically elected Congress may determine whether the President is at fault.

No. The President of the USA needs to be a perfect person and I'm not kidding. I mean perfect since birth. Not only the chosen President. There family/people they associate themselves with also has to be prefect people That is what is expected from any President. They need to be the perfect human. That is what sets them apart from the rest of us.

      It's the President, not Jesus

@@deleted01 Oh come on! Jesus does not exist. Never did, never will. The President of the USA is a real human and they have to be perfect. That is expected of them. Not everyone can be President. It takes a unique human to do that role and yes, they should be perfect. If they are not perfect, find someone who is. Perfect humans do exist. They are rare though.

If he has no immunity, and Trump wins, Biden could be indicted for tens of thousand of crimes. His refusal to enforce border control law makes him an accessory to the nurmers, rapes and robberies committed by every illegal alien he illegaly allowed to enter.

Maybe TDA should've also gone through the majority's reasoning in the court ruling for a more balanced coverage. Also, why assume that the Supreme Court is "skewed towards conservative outcome" (7:20) when the prosecutor could just as well be skewed? And why assume that Trump's highly unusual legal battles are due to his actions rather than his opponent's? The Department of Justice is every bit as political as the Supreme Court.
