Apart from these consider these factors:-
1) Most of the manufacturers offer basic warranty 3 years+ extended warranty 2 years (just by paying 10-15k extra). So you will have total warranty for manufacturer issues for 5 years.
2) Bumper-to-bumper warranty can be availed for first 5 years only. In case of accidents, repairs could be totally covered.
3) Insurers offer engine coverage for first 5 years by paying additional premium of 5-8k. This could save you something like 50-60k. I paid 75k to repair swift engine which seized just due to the failure of Thermostat.

Appreciate your efforts in making this video. One more main thing you forgot to mention new car road tax is too high. Second hand car no road tax more than 1L can be saved here. Also second hand car maintenance is not 25k per year. Company certified second hand cars are available in market. They also provide 1 year warranty and two free service. So for 1st year only engine oil/ brake oil expense needs to be taken care. I had purchased company certified hyundai I20 first owner had purchased extended warranty (3 years), Sold car in 1.5 years. Even though I purchased second hand car is still valid for company warranty for 1.5 years. If you purchase from outside dealers then it all depends on pure luck.

This is my point of view to the same but under different scenario . , This is not the same case with Imported and Expensive Cars like BMW or Audi . Those will make a huge difference and often advisable to opt for Good Condition , Well Maintained - USED Cars . Since the cost of the Car right out of the showroom falls short by almost 30% . The 2nd Owner will enjoy maximum benefits even after buying the car from the 1st Owner after 5 years . Maximum drop in pricing and also doesn't have to worry about paying expensive RTO taxes , unlike new cars .
Example - A Audi Car - 2017 purchased for 70 Lakhs , after 5 years - will only cost the 2nd Owner around 27-32 Lakhs .
Also at that same time the insurance would cost - less than 1 Lakh , Where for the New car would have costed the 1st Owner around 2.7 Lakhs or more .
The mileage and maintenance is more or less the same , Since German Quality .
It's really advisable to opt for a USED car when you go beyond the range of 25 Lakhs ( New car price ) .
Also , in your case study SWIFT is a highly successful model , therefore a lot of USED car ownership will be interested . Demand is high . So the Price drops in a very average manner . Competition is more .
It's certainly not the same case with German Cars . Less Demand and better pricing . Similarly , the records are completely monitored ( Computer logged data ) better to that of cheaper cars and Indian Brands . Clean service record history and complete peace of mind .
Whatever the car , buy them from family friends and know associates . It's better that way .
Therefore , It's a Win - Win Situation .

There is a very very important factor missed in this. Opportunity cost. 3L saved by buying used car invested at 8% will give you 1,46,953.71. Plus the money saved during code of ownership can also be invested 7% RD will give you 37 K so in total you will get 1.8 L
He has considered loan scenario. So no oppurtunity cost separately other than what he mentioned.

Good work backed up with data. I have done a similar analysis in the past and came to a similar logical conclusion. If we are buying a car for our personal use and planning to use it for long term should go for new car. If we are planning to generate income from the car then we should go for used car. When it comes to personal use there is an emotional angle and social status attached to it (which we cannot bring out quantitatively). For this reason it is always better to go for new car for the long term personal use in my opinion.

There are also some mental/ mind related things like : Happiness, utility of a new car, Status, stress during breakdowns, repairs and maintenance for a used car. The level of motivation we get from a new car is always better. Also, sentimentally attached people will not opt for used car or sell a car they use. There is also another thing. We harm our environment less when we buy new cars as the current pollution norms are strict and even diesel engines are smarter and quieter.

As usual Good Explanation bro. 11 years before i considered this cost perspective in my thoughts of maintenance and engine life. So i went to so many second hand car dealers for deciding factor. Once i learned most of the benefits comes in new car from used one I purchased new. Still I consider major factors of vehicle maintenance cost( includes service cost and spare parts) for purchasing new vehicle. Every vehicle has Depreciation plays major factor and everyone have to think about service, spare parts price, reliability of engine life before buying.

Iam a firstime buyer and I preferred a used car within 5 yrs. Bcoz, I know driving but I Want to gain and improve the driving experience before going to spend 8-10L for a car. Some minor dents, scratches in used car won't bother you much, but think if that happens to ur dream car 🙂
