  • Beitar Jerusalem are six-time Israeli Premier League champions and one of the best supported teams in Israel, but the club has always been tarnished by their far-right supporters' group, La Familia.
    Over the years, La Familia have engaged in racist chants and violence, ensuring that Beitar Jerusalem remain the only football club in Israel never to have had any Arab players - but the club's makeup and context is more complex than you might think.
    In this documentary, HITC Sevens takes a deep dive into the weird world of Beitar Jerusalem, their racist fans, and the political machinations behind the controversial club.

      @@anon131 absence of politics is a political stance itself
      Saying 'I'm not political' can also be seen to say 'I'm happy with the state of the world' which is a by-default support of the status quo. Saying 'keep politics out of this' means 'I benefit from the way things are, dont change them'.
      Being 'non-political' is an oxymoron, because by ignoring politics you are by-default supporting conservatism, which is taking a political stance.

      @A. E. A. It just so happens that I’m a history student who learned specifically about the Middle East for the last year and a half. Some context: Israeli politics divides right-left on two topics: safety(what should happen to the Palestinians) and economy. In the safety debate, the far right(mostly conservatives and ultra-religious settlers in the West Bank) wants ALL the land to itself, mostly for religious reasons(there is apparently a religious law preventing anyone from “giving land of Israel to other people”). The left doesn’t care much about land, and thinks there should be a country of Palestine, but for now is afraid of the idea of a Palestinian state 20 km from Tel Aviv. There is also a problem with stability in the Palestinian cities in the West Bank. They are really poor and gang crime is everywhere(Palestinians killing Palestinians), and if they form a country with this situation, it probably won’t survive that long before becoming too reliant on some bigger (potentially anti-Israeli)Islamist state helping them economically, and lose a lot of their independence AND potentially become a threat to Israel’s existence. But in the long run, the left in Israel DOES want to see a successful and friendly Palestinian state.

      @ShmuelMe Před 2 lety +12

      @A. E. A. About the Temple Mount and Jerusalem, I personally think that it should allow religious freedom for everyone, and that the old city, needs to be a separate entity controlled internationally, with the rest of Jerusalem being split by population between Israel (the Western neighborhoods)and Palestine (the eastern neighborhoods).

      @yunghussar8451 Před rokem

      Well, Luch last played in Premier League in 2008 and in 2020 they even were disbanded. Nowadays Vladivostok is represented by Dynamo Vladivostok which is at the bottom of Russian Football. Their Far Eastern derby rival SKA Khabarovsk also played in RPL in 2018, so most of their post-soviet history both teams played in FNL (Russian Championship). Unfortunately, football in Asian part of Russia is not developed as in European part due to its climate above all (and also economic development). Sometimes some club from Siberia can reach the RPL (Sibir, Tom, Yenisey) - the highest achievement of these clubs is Sibir’s silver in Russian Cup 2010 and they even played in Europa League. Well, Siberia is more about hockey than football.
      So, it’a interesting to see if Russia join AFC, may be if can develop football beyond the Urals, but I believe it’d be nice if Russia stayed in UEFA (and unbanned😢) but eastern part get it’s own association just for clubs to participate in Asian Cups

Then again expecting a left-wing idiot from a shithole such as Kingston upon Hull to consider that is a fantasy of course. Remember, Alfie is a massive SJW, so he wholeheartedly believes in the false premise of racism, when in reality, it's the fact that most young footballers are egotistical power merchants who are obsessed with doing whatever they like, from domestic abuse to animal abuse.
      The race card is a pathetic tactic of the victim narrative used by young, spoilt people online to blame outside factors. It is no different from old men in politics and other aspects of life who blame their failings on outside factors because their own egos can't handle the criticism.

    A few corrections. No Israeli football club in the top two leagues (any major club) is Left leaning. Sports in general in Israel tend to pull fandom from the middle-right. Hapoel Tel-Aviv may have been a left leaning club decades ago, but like all Israeli Premier League clubs and their majority fans, they are all right leaning.
    Beitar Jerusalem (or just Beitar as they're more commonly known) fans, and La-Familia in particular, are mostly fascists, racists, right wingers who are a stain on Israel and its sports (something they are VERY proud of). La-Familia is a crime organization as much as it is a fan club and should be treated as such. You can look at videos from the current war situation where Hamas Terrorists were rumored to be treated at an Israeli hospital and La-Familia members stormed that hospital threatening to lynch the terrorist(s) who weren't even there.
    Politicians in Israel care very little about sports or clubs. They use clubs and fans for political gain and nothing more. Sports have been used as a propaganda arm for many regimes before...it's no different with Israel's Right nowadays.

    There is a documentary called "forever pure" filmed during the season when the chechen players arived in Beitar. It's a good film, kinda crazy club.
    I would recomend a mini doc about Rakow Chestchova in Poland Alfie, played in the 4th liga in Poland a couple of years ago and are now top of the league and in the Polish cup final. Dont know so much more about them so it would be cool to see you dig a little into the clubs recent history.
    Cheers!

    As a person who lived all their life in Jerusalem i really dont like Beitar. i am supporting the other big club of Jerusalem "Hapoel Jerusalem" who put themselves as a complete oposite to Beitar, and we are striving to fight racism violence and homophobia in the pitch and outside of it.
    Just remember that beitar doesent represent the israeli football or the football in Jerusalem and the people overall.

      It does represent a lot of Israelis though. The current government consists of several far right racist extremists, though I gather that they are not a very popular government

      @@yoloswaggins7121bro as an Israeli I can tell you that Most of the people in Israel hate the current government and have been trying to overthrow it for over a year and a half, and we will. Beitar fans are not representing us.

    The whole thing about zenit denying they’re racist, it’s just a tradition, is that if they said that it would be only Russian players, nobody would call them racist if they said they would only sign Russians and focus on developing Russian players through their academy.

    Can you do a video on the come up of Villarreal. How a team from a tiny town in Spain with a 23 thousand seater stadium are beating giants like Juve and Bayern and making it to a champions league semi final 🙌
