This was one movie that I used to watch all the time when I was a kid. It was one of the first movies that I used to say it’s gorgeous to look at. To this day, it’s one of the best cartoon movies I’ve ever seen.
Agreed on every point. This movie made me, for the first time realize what a director, an animator, really is.. that someone or a group of people worked to put each part of this together, built it, designed it, I know it sounds dumb but before that I just assumed movies kind of.. happened? This made me really want to know more about how, and ignited a passion in me. I was so amazed and impressed. It's still one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, and the scenery is just magical to me. Those night time Christmas scenes, the Norman Rockwell-esque look of the town during Christmas time. Classic America, "a time when things were better."
It's beautiful and captures the spirit of Christmas perfectly, or at least, it rekindles the feelings that Christmas used to give me as a child. Pure excitement and wonder.

From a technical standpoint, The Polar Express is a masterpiece. It is the first movie to use motion capture for its entire length. (This is the technique that allowed Gollum to seem real in The Lord of the Rings.) Excellent work.
It's more impressive when Tom hanks did most of the capture work for all the characters yes even the child characters and elf characters.

Every year in elementary school they’d show this right before everyone went off for Christmas break. They’d let the kids chill in their pajamas with popcorn and hot cocoa.

When I was little this was the only Christmas movie I had, it encapsulates the entire sprit of the holiday for me.
They’re not always thought of in the best light today, but Robert Zemeckis’s CGI trilogy of The Polar Express, Beowulf, and A Christmas Carol was nothing short of visionary. I have a huge soft spot for all three.

I feel like because of how infamous the early motion capture CGI is, this movie often gets overlooked by people, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the beautiful visuals that the rest of the movie has to offer. It may not be super high quality but the atmosphere really is something else that hasn’t been captured before or since

Favorite christmas movie ever
Happy New Year everyone. Here, in Russia, we don't celebrate 25th December Christmas, but our main celebration is New Year. Just 15 minutes ago I've watched the Polar Express again and it have such a nostalgia - last time watched it was 8 years ago. I wish everyone good luck in 2021, we will make it.
Maybe it's the score or maybe the animation but I always got a sense of sadness when I watched this when I was younger.
So did I, but now it’s sort of morphed into nostalgia.

I watch this every year with my family. Its a decently balanced film, and its just gorgeous to look at. Robert Zemeckis is great at encapsulating 'magic' in his films.

1:04 this scene gave me dreams for months to years after I saw it, and it's still one of my favorite fantasy settings.

Thank you so much for taking me back to my childhood with this one! My sister and I had watched that film a million times when we were little. I remember our mum had to translate everything because we were too little to read subtitles and we only had the English language version of the movie ( the extent a mother's love can go to 😂 ). Anyway , this was a beautiful throwback!
