- after my mum and i waiting all our lives pretty much, we finally have a horse! we didn’t think we would have the time or money bc horses are expensive to buy and to keep! we are so so so grateful to have our horse, Chief and we can’t wait to make amazing memories with him.

is it okay if i ask how old you are? the only reason im asking is cause im 14 and i really want a horse, im just kinda loosing hope in getting one... i dont wanna live off loan horses my whole entire lifeeeeee
ah, no that’s okay! thank you for asking if it was okay, respect for you. i’m 16 and i understand where you’re coming from. my mum and i were planning on getting a loan horse in the beginning but then quickly changed our minds for the following reasons: 1) the main owners could want the horse / pony back at any time. 2) if an injury occurs you would (usually) have to pay towards the vet bill. 3) in a way it would never really feel like your own and you could always have the fear of losing it to the main owners (sort of like the first reason), 4) arguments could emerge. and 5) if you keep the loan horse / pony at your place / livery yard, by the time you’ve payed for all that, it’s basically the equivalent to having your own. and once you have a horse of your own, you have it and don’t have the worry of losing it to someone else (unless an idiot steals it / a freak accident happens.) sorry if i wrote a lot but i hope this helped!! 💜
I feel the same way as well I’m 13 but I’m going to be 14 soon and I have been riding for 10 years and I’m still waiting form my own horse too

:( my mum said she will get me a horse when I’m 15 but I can’t wait 5 years I have 6-7 years experience with them but my mum still says no I’ve loved horses since I was two and started loving dogs when I was 3-4 my mum got me a dog but I still want a horse because to be honest I’ve been riding the same horse for 6-7 years now and with the virus I can’t ride him any more until next Saturday so I really really miss him and I would love to have a horse that I’ll see every now and then instead of every other year or month and I saw that shetlands are pretty cheap so I wrote down a list of how expensive it’ll be so my mum will see when she cleans my room next ^^ ways to bribe your parents lol

Congrats and good luck! I wish I had a horse. I'm kinda losing hope now when I see other people getting horses. I have loved horses since I was little my family can't afford one for now :(((((. I love and adore horses so much though. Once more good luck!
Thank you! I understand where you’re coming from but don’t lose hope! I had to wait years as I’ve wanted one since I was 4 and I’m 16 now, so 12 years! As I waited that long, even 8 months later, it still feels surreal. I understand the discouragement though. I was always happy for them but envious of the people who had horses, as it felt like the wait was never ending. I’m sure you’ll get one someday! ❤️
And about the price side - I understand that too. My parents never had enough money and tbh, we’re still not well off but my mum said “if we don’t get one now, we’ll never get one” so now we have Chiefy! It has been a bumpy, stressful and pain filled ride, but we’re getting there with him. Xx

Just asking what are you planning on training him to do?
Hopefully in the future my mum and I will be able to take him to shows, 1/2/3 day events, fun rides, rides on the beach, perhaps pony club camp, but mainly enjoying things we can do at home (flatwork, pole work, jumping, practicing dressage etc.) We’re currently working on his behaviour, building up his muscle, stamina and fitness so he will be fit enough to do all those things in the future. X
My mum is also working on his groundwork hacks him out while I hack Bart

Yeah, I know lol. We bought one for him but didn't arrive until a few days later. Plus he wasn't used to one and we wanted him to settle down first, and I don't see that as a hate comment, I love receiving advice! X
