- In this video, I'll be taking a look at the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi R2-D2. This is a great R2. The scale is practically perfect and it's packed with nice features and accessories. R2 and Jabba were the most egregious omissions of my collection, so I’m absolutely thrilled to finally have them both! So glad I waited for a properly scaled one! He’s a beautiful little figure, and I can’t wait for R5-D4 and any other astromech droid they do on this body.

It’s Artoo we’re talking about here. It’s a blaster. Looks like a homage to Family Guys Blue Harvest version of Artoo when he’s shooting at Tie Fighters with a handgun.

I believe it's a welding torch. There's a scene I recall where R2 is using one and it looks like a gun - although I dont now which movie it's in.

Thank you for going over this figure! I was having a hard time figuring out what was supposed to come out and how to pop out the leg. I was expecting the twist for the head, but glad to see they changed that. I also didn't even know about the storage feature, so that's amazing!

Nice review!! I never realized that the R2-D2 was not the correct size when I first got him and started collecting. And as you hear through other collectors and become in the know, you find out that R2-D2 is very much under scaled and a big disappointment from Hasbro. So, the announcement of this figure in the correct size was a big ALRIGHT, it's about time Hasbro!! Glad to have this in my collection now too!
It's pretty incredible just how small the first BS astromechs are. Just like you (and everyone else), I was so glad they were fixing it. And they did great. It's such a nice R2... I'm glad ya'll have this figure in your collection. Thanks very much for watching!

I actually like the jet boosters and lightsaber storage on the old R2, but the brand new set of accessories on this new one more than make up for it. Great review of a great new figure 🔥

Finally one the right size. Up to now, my R2 is the Kotobukiya Artfx one. It does have the panel lines darkened. I have ordered the version in the Mando packaging. Looking forward to comparing the size.

When Steve Evans was on board the SW team at Hasbro he almost succeeded in getting the scale updated to this, but for some odd reason it wasn't realized until now. It's nice to finally have the right scaled R2, especially since I haven't gotten around to assembling my bandai R2 and R5 :D
That's interesting about Steve... This needed to be done years ago. The Bandai kit is quite nice. It's a little unforgiving when putting it together, but the finished product is great. The new BS R2 - the fact that it's not a model, you can actually 'play' with it. So nice... Thanks so much for watching!
@@Matt_Bryant I believe it was when they revealed the BT-1 (Doctor Aphra's companion astromech) at SDCC 2018? that they said that they'd make all astromechs the correct size from there on.
Artoo looks good, really good. I'd love to get one and an Arfive.
Now they need to redo Dr Aphra's murderous astromech Beetee One. Heck all the astromechs from Queen Amidala's space ship in the Phantom Menace.

I do wish black series r2d2 life scanner panel do open like in the movies, instead of taking it off, but I still like how it is

I'm glad we got a new scale. Sad it took a decade. I'm excited except figuring out what to do with my old ones. They will look odd on the shelf with new ones. Great job on review.
The new scale is great... I kinda feel for those that have multiple 'old' BS astromechs on the shelf. They would definately look 'out of place.' I appreciate you watching as always, J.D.!
Also I do wish they give the astromech droids a better paint job on the accessories, and put black paint on the outline panels for a realistic effect, but great toy either way
More paint detail is always welcome. A simple dark wash would really bring out the panel details on the body. I may do that at some point. 👍🏻👍🏻

Great review of an amazing R2 figure! Just wondering if it is possible to put a Luke lightsaber hilt in the top?
Thanks very much. As far as a lightsaber - I haven't tried it, but I think it would be too big. It definitely won't go all the way in - but having the hilt stick out the top, I don't think it would fit. The holes are pretty small. Thanks for checking out the review! 👍🏻👍🏻🙂

I believe you're right - it may be expensive to obtain later on. Ya never know... It's a great R2. I do wish they had painted some bits on the third leg, but as a whole - awesome figure. I appreciate you watching, Andrew! 👍🏻

That's the 50th anniversary of Lucasfilm "Power of the Force" cardback Luke. It's the same figure as the original Black Series farm boy Luke, it just has the 'updated' face. Thanks for watching!
