Avishai’s music is EXTREMELY complex & challenging!! I don’t know how familiar you are with his trio records. But, this is actually one of his less demanding tunes. I highly recommend “Ever evolving etude” Live in NYC! It’s dizzyingly complex a constantly evolving/dynamically developing rhythmically driven tune. That begins with alternating syncopated bars of 5/8 & 13/4 with keys in 5/8 and bass/drums in 13/4 that are changing multiple tempo’s often halfway between measures! Avishai’s Middle Eastern heritage provides the basis for all the oddball times; A native Israeli with a jazz/classical background and a brilliant composer that pushes the limits of what’s possible.. I’m exhausted sometimes just listening to him! 😉
