I just bought a 1981 corvette, and this channel has been amazing for it. I know some automotive skills, but Ben knows everything about these cars! I wish there was a Corvette Ben near me! This dude is legit.
I remember those days of working on those. Wow you brought back memories of working on vettes of back then. I glad to someone of your age has interest in the old C3 Corvette. Great video ✌🏽
Hi Ben.... Love your channel. I have a 79 Vette and your video helped me out on changing the headlight actuators. They truly are a piece of work aren't they????? I used your method of going thru the parking light grills and moving the canisters to the middle to remove them intead of removing the hood. While I was at it, I also installed new actuator relays (another pain) and all the vacuum lines. She ought to be good for a couple of years (fingers crossed).... Great work man!
I have been watching you work on Vets and many other cars over the past year. I am at the point that I can tackle most automotive jobs on my own. You are one intelligent young man Ben. Today's folks your age are still playing with their cell phones.
Might as well do the other side while you are there. This takes some of the mystery out of the job. We did not have these vids back when I had my 81 and had to rely on magazine articles that sometimes were not very well written. C3 owners are lucky today to have this technology. Thanks brother!
Love your channel Ben. You’ve inspired me to go look at and hopefully purchase my first C3 tomorrow. A 1973 convertible with the L-82 engine. Thanks for sharing your videos!
Great video/tip - l've always wondered how these worked...l remember some of these had little pull switches in the middle under the driver side dash & thought that it could be broken/leaking
Great fix Mark ! I was hoping to see how you installed the "seal". I owned a 78 Corvette back in the 80's and it had a "lazy eye" too. heheh. It looked like it was blinking at people ! ha ! I just got my 53 Caddy running great, ….then the rear Main seal started leaking !!! Must be replaced ! (has a graphite type rope seal) Pain in the neck to remove while Crank is in . I'm going to film it...see how it goes. I did one on my 41 Buick straight Eight when I was a teenager...but that was a looooooong time ago. Take care Ben ! Peace
I have an 82 and I got my actuators out of the bottom, it was not easy, took a bit of fenangling, but I have a lift so I was working over my head. Also the turn signal bulb in dash you can remove the bezel and remove the bulb with a piece of flexible hosing and you don’t have to remove the Speedo cable or even pull the housing out at all
I like hidden headlights. I had a Galaxy,500XL and when they stopped closing, the car still looked good. Probably designed that way since you will have other things to Fix Or Repair Daily.
Hey man question, I’m looking at a 77 corvette soon. The owner said that he lost the keys but has new ones with a new ignition switch. How can I turn the engine over without hacking into the steering column to Hotwire it. Can I do something in the engine bay or with the jump start the starter?
Great Vlog Ben. At the end after you fixed the actuator on the passenger side why did the driver side take so long to close?? Did you have to do anything to the delay in closure on the driver side? Steve
Hey guys any advice I pulled my headlight switch the headlights come on but they don't open up actuators look good hoses look good you think it might be the switch I'm not sure what it is any ideas where to check thank you It's an older switch and the knob dimmer knob pulls out all the way sometimes
Hey Ben, I have a question. I love the C3 body and I'm also a modern tech kind of guy. Is it possible to put a more modern Corvette interior into a C3 body?
Not without lots of modifications. The C3 is more closely related to the C2 than it is the later Corvettes. All of the dimensions are different. C4 and later Corvettes went to a unibody structure vs. the body on frame of earlier Corvettes.
I have an 82 Vette, horn does not work, the buzzer when you leave the keys and open the door, no lights on vanity mirror and can’t figure out if it is all related. Please help.
I have a question for you Corvette Ben a local dealer has a 1996 corvette with a c4 motor and the factory 6 speed.Bad part asking $5600,not running. He says bad fuel pump, injectors, fuel line,I think if it is that easy of a fix why don't they fix it.Inside and outside look good.
It's possible that the parts and labor for the fix could easily exceed what the car is worth. These dealers are somewhat profit driven, and if the numbers don't work, they're likely not going to put the labor into it. It's a 25 year old car. Never underestimate a "simple" fix, especially if the car has been sitting for a while. I'm betting there's more going on with that car than they're letting on, or that they even realize. It probably needs new tires, new brakes, new shocks and lots of other stuff that goes bad when a car sits for a while. All of the manual, 1996 cars got the 330 hp LT4 motor.
I have heard of some owners using third or fourth gen Firebird headlight motors, or C5 Corvette actuators (C6 and later went to fixed headlight designs).
I have a 1975 C3 and the headlights come on but after awhile they shut off for Know reason , try the next day and they work but after awhile they shut off again, Help
Wow. One of those silly 85 mph speedometers, required by law back in the day. Some bureaucrat thought that if Americans saw high-limit speedometers, they were tempted to speed, violating speed limits and worse, heaven forbid, get into accidents. Thankfully this ridiculous requirement was scrapped by the mid-1980's. Regarding the headlights, it's best to do both of them at the same time. If one is bad, the other isn't far behind.
I'm going to resurrect my '80 Vette from the grave. Been sitting in my garage for 6 years. Can anyone tell me what trouble I will have and what I need to do beside changing the fluids and tires?
Kind Sir, you didn’t show the process of replacing the new seal into the unit or even how to r/r the disc that holds it in. Somewhat disappointed. Luckily for me, I’ve seen another video that went through the entire process.
I just bought a 1981 corvette, and this channel has been amazing for it. I know some automotive skills, but Ben knows everything about these cars! I wish there was a Corvette Ben near me! This dude is legit.
Don't worry. Mark will be back in a few weeks after the Driver's side not going down fast enough drives his OCD crazy. lol
Yup, it's inevitable. Once one is working correctly then you realize how bad the other one is...
I remember those days of working on those. Wow you brought back memories of working on vettes of back then. I glad to someone of your age has interest in the old C3 Corvette. Great video ✌🏽
even tho some people hate some models of Vettes , i just can't help liking any and all of them...thx for this great channel Ben...
Fix the other side because that’s driving me crazy !🤪

Thank you brother. From Maine. Great video man...James
The paint job on this '80 looks fresh (and expensive). Decent video Ben.
Might as well do the other side while you are there. This takes some of the mystery out of the job. We did not have these vids back when I had my 81 and had to rely on magazine articles that sometimes were not very well written. C3 owners are lucky today to have this technology. Thanks brother!
Another great learning tool for these cars. I save them all.
Thank you Ben.
Been nice to see how you replace the seal
Wow...Chev sure made it crazy complicated just to change out a light bulb!
Love your channel Ben. You’ve inspired me to go look at and hopefully purchase my first C3 tomorrow. A 1973 convertible with the L-82 engine. Thanks for sharing your videos!
Thank you for this video! I have the same issue on my 77 passenger side headlight and this will save me so much time!
Such a great video! Thank you!
Great Video. Thank You for reminding me why I sold the 74 I once owned. It was a nice car, but had been poorly maintained when I got it.
The other headlight needs to be done as well! He’ll be back :) Nice work!
8-track cassette tape organizer in the glove box. I keep Dark Side of the Moon in mine. ;) Great video sir!
That was for cassette tapes, not 8-track.
I'll edit this post if you would like the GM part numbers.
@@eagle7267 that's incorrect. I have exactly that organizer, cassette tapes dont fit. It's 8-track to match the factory installed 8-track stereo.
Like all your videos, very informative, great job
My favorite corvette in the looks department
Great work as always. Thank you.
Great video/tip - l've always wondered how these worked...l remember some of these had little pull switches in the middle under the driver side dash & thought that it could be broken/leaking
Also, I'm a big fan of the last revision of the C3 Body. The semi boxiness of it makes it like a C3.5 almost.
Nice job Ben!
Nice job, Ben. Your Corvette experience can earn you a nice side income.
something tells me that his car experience earns him a nice main income :-)

Any tips on fixing telescopic steering?
Where’s a new video? It’s been a week, and I can’t wait any longer for your videos! I look forward to them all the time! More videos I say!
oooh a glove box, faaancy. mine only has a map pouch! XD

Hello, my pop up headlights on my c3 are stuck. One is a stuck halfway down, the other fully up. How man turns on the rods do you start with?
You can change that blinker bulb by removing the lens and black trim around gauges.
Better tell Mark the drivers side headlight is next

Do the headlights ever go up and down quickly, as I havent seen a single one that's done it so far.
The thumbnail makes it look like the car has a Fin down the middle of the hood. I have to say that doesnt look half bad lol.
I have an 82 Vette, horn does not work, the buzzer when you leave the keys and open the door, no lights on vanity mirror and can’t figure out if it is all related. Please help.
As u know. The driver side headlight needs redoing also?🤔
Customer said only one.

Is there a way to retro fit those covers to electric motors instead of vacuum?
Detroit Speed makes an electric conversion kit

do some videos on a 1955 studebaker president speedster because i just bought one ha ha
Would have been nice to see how to replace the seal but whatever I'll just figure it out.
If you will search back through his videos, you'll find one where he shows how to replace the seal.
Wow. One of those silly 85 mph speedometers, required by law back in the day. Would have like to have seen you actually replacing the seal.
He does in another video.
looks like Mark needs to get the driver side done too
I'm going to resurrect my '80 Vette from the grave. Been sitting in my garage for 6 years. Can anyone tell me what trouble I will have and what I need to do beside changing the fluids and tires?
Nice looking 80 vette.
Would have at least shown Mark the difference between the two. I know it would be up selling but in this case it’s worth it.
People who this liked this video prefers to drive their Corvette whit a broken headlight actuator, glove box latch and dash bulbs.
Hey
Very nice car but the only thing wrong with it is the longhorn stuff on it
Now they dont go down the same time
now your friend is gonna ask for the other headlight to be fixed because they're hella out of sync. xD
You are right, BUT when I suggested doing both he just wanted one done. Maybe he will bring it back later to do the other side.
@@TheCorvetteBen bet so.
When Ben tells you to remove the signal, you remove the goddamn signal!
Kind Sir, you didn’t show the process of replacing the new seal into the unit or even how to r/r the disc that holds it in. Somewhat disappointed. Luckily for me, I’ve seen another video that went through the entire process.
I’ve already made a video on that, no need to repeat.
How bout a Camaro video?
4500ish redline? I have diesels that spin faster than that. Oh how the 80's were so cruel to the car world.
...aaand he doesn't show how to get the seal off the actuator.
I already made a video on this. Search "how to repair a headlight actuator on a c3 Corvette" here on CZcams
What an awesome corvette too bad the owner is incompetent and ruins the car by putting ugly Texas stuff on it
For a daily driver, the interior looks like shit.
