In this video, we're answering the question: How is David Tennant back in Doctor Who? Some people are calling him the bridge Doctor. Catherine Tate weighs in!
The BBC confirmed that Tennant has officially returned as the 14th Doctor.
He is reprising his role across three special episodes for the show's 60th anniversary, which are set to air in November 2023.
It was previously announced that Catherine Tate would also reprise her role as the Doctor's companion, Donna Noble, and that American actor Neil Patrick Harris would be joining the cast.
SO, if you happened to actually see Jodie Whittaker’s regeneration, you’ll know that she doesn’t turn into Ncuti Gatwa. She turns into David Tennant, and in a statement from new (old) showrunner Russell T. Davies, he confirms that Gatwa is actually the “Fifteenth Doctor.” Christopher Eccleston was nine, Tennant was 10, Matt Smith was 11, Peter Capaldi was 12, and Whittaker was 13, which means Tennant is also 14, which seems to mean he’s literally a different guy than the 10th Doctor. There have been regeneration shenanigans before, and also this is Doctor Who we’re talking about, so there are millions of ways for the show to explain this, but damn. Davies isn’t even officially running the show yet and he’s already dropping twists!

Russell: so uhh, I'm thinking we do a one off Doctor who special, what do you think?
BBC: (Sarcastically) oh yeah Russell, why don't you just take over the whole show while you're at it!
Russell: OK, I will.
@@Picilishous never keep your hopes up. never keep your hopes up. never keep your hopes up.
@@_.violyse._I agree. I feel like Russell was best when he had David Moffatt taking on some of the load since Moffatt had such cool ideas. Moffatt wasn’t ready to take on the whole show, but he wasn’t a bad writer if he did it from time to time
@@kohakkanuva3224Moffat did far less during the first rtd era than you seem to think he did.
RTD was writing multiple shows at once back then. Moffat wrote some of the best doctor who episodes ever during that time period which really took a lot of the fan expectations off RTD, making his load much lighter since doctor who was obviously the main show. But either way, like 3 shows was too much at once and he couldn't handle it. The obvious decision was moffat, but he'd only written a handfulof episodes during the RTD era. He eventually started getting whiplash from fan expectations and creative burnout fromhaving to try to make every single doctor who episode up to the par of silence in the library and blink. I feel that after the 11th hour, he started to feel the burn and the hate he got over the dalek paradigm (which was truthfully a great idea) hurt it more. I think the one time he truly surpassed himself in every way was in heaven sent. It's a true masterpiece of writing, directing, and television cinematography. At the end of the it was the fans that made Moffat lose confidence in dreaming big. Getting back to present day, RTD doesn't have moffat anymore. Every new idea is his own. Luckly he only has the one show this time, but he'll soon start to feel that slow burn again. Whether he'll need help or not and whether he asks Moffat to come back for a couple one-offs, who knows. But it's going to be tough on him without Moffat, our fairy-tale man.
I think it was more like:
BBC: OMG PLEASE ALL OF YOU COME BACK I GIVE YOU MY FIRST BORN SON😭
It's perfectly fitting for the Doctor who didn't want to go to come back.
He did tell Wilfrid that he'd meet him one last time....
Rip Bernard Cribbins
@@RealUlrichLelandhe already did
@@RealUlrichLelandHe will probably see him a last time in the special episodes. Even if now he's dead, back when they were shooting the episodes, Bernard Cribbins was seen on the set in a wheelchair. It was like a few months before he passed
We need the Doctor after the past few years of world events T_T Its amazing to have him back
Why did this make me tear up a bit
Chad David tennat basically just said I want to be doctor who again and that was that...
I wish other doctors wanted to come back cuz I got an idea what if instead of becoming David Tennant again 13 exploded sending different versions of the Doctor Who have been altered due to the fact that they shouldn't exist no more and they all have memory up to 13 32 and rationed throughout all of time and space and one version of the doctor and let's say played by David Bradley has to go collect all the other versions so that they can merge into the 14th
Money dried up for them all, want to matter again.. all about who you know in the acting industry.
@@DeskChair24David Tennant's still pretty famous from other stuff... so... no
@Jenna Antenna rather of had Paul McGann for the three specials, always overlooked.
@@DeskChair24right, I mean sure but you were still objectively wrong. David Tennant didn't come back because he was "low on money", almost everything he's in has been extremely successful (and lucrative), he probably just enjoyed the role and was talking about how fun it was
Curator: “And in years to come, you might find yourself… revisiting a few, but just _the old favourites,_ eh?”
I absolutely love that scene. The 4th Doctor was my dad's favorite. We both cheered when we heard Tom Baker's voice. Little did we know that the 50th was the last special we'd get to watch together.
I miss you dad. RIP
@@Supreme_Dalek_ My condolences. 😔
In reality:
BBC: "PLEASE, DAVID, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, COME BACK! OUR RATINGS ARE IN SHAMBLES!!!!"
BBC doesn’t give a BBC about doctor who nowadays tho
He is generally the most popular Doctor.
Exactly! Chibnall ran the show completely into the ground. At least when Moffat ran the show people still watched- even if 12’s later episodes were a bit worse
@@zacharyfinch1230 12's later seasons had a few dud episodes, but most were still great. The problem with 12's era was that it wasn't aimed at kids anymore, it was only enjoyable for teens and up. Still a good show, but it forgot a core aspect of the audience.
The non binary doctor
I think he said on another interview this was after one of the lockdown live watch alongs. I just want Russell to say whether David and Catherine gave him the idea!
Russell said he vividly remembers Catherine saying they should do it, but when he looked back at the chat logs, he found out he suggested it after her saying she missed it. So I think HE thought it was their idea, lmao.
Correct, it was discussed in the Doctor Who Lockdown watchalong/tweetalog. Possibly during when Catherine and David (With Georgia) came on one of those tweetalongs for Stolen Earth/Journey’s End
@@UltimateKyuubiFox In a letter to I think Doctor Who magazine, he does say what you and I say. It popped up in my timeline yesterday
@@cherylwilliams9514exaktly! I was there at the tweetalong xD
"The Curator" did say he'd visit a few of his old favorite faces again, soooo.... 😉❤️
Who 👨⚕️ Nose?👃
The ratings were terrible so we need a fan favorite to bring people back to show
Imagine going into a coma in 2009 waking up and realising David Tennant is still the Doctor
Im imagining they see DT is still the doctor and think, "Well, at least I can't have been in a coma for that long, right?
I think the main motivating factor was a "save doctor who" reason, cause the show was declining, so they brought back everyone's favourite writer, and didn't hesitate at the opportunity for the favourite doctor and companion
Except no way in hell is Donna the favorite. Rose is by far better than Donna. I can’t fucking stand Catherine Tate.
I wouldnt say donna is everyones favourite companion. Personally i like martha and rose more.
@@natisfreezing Donna was fun, martha was too serious and well rose was just everyone's favourite
@@TheShockwave114 Martha was actually my favourite, I loved her. I kinda found donna a little annoying ngl
I think we all know rose was everyone’s favourite and not Donna
“I don’t wanna go” and you’ll never have to David , You the GOAT, guarantee he’ll be gunning it in the 70th too
I hope when he regenerates into Ncuti, he says “I’m ready to go now.”
I don't care his one of my favourite actor and I can't wait
@HARRYRANTS well that probably why they brought him back to bring back the fans
@HARRYRANTS username checks out - you really do love to rant, don’t you? my god you’re cynical
@HARRYRANTS lmao thanks for proving my point. now go get some therapy 🤡
@HARRYRANTS Wrong. People are extremely excited they kicked the *itch off finally and half ret-coning it by bringing him back as the 14th doctor. The show will do just fine, maybe stop assuming when shit goes south there is no redemption. 🙄
@HARRYRANTS What? Where on the doll did the guy touch you. 🤣🤣🤣
Don’t care who gave him the idea, as long as we get a lil Doctor Donna.
That's a tad risky, my guy. Remember the last time Doctor Donna existed? Donna almost died.
@@tangentpanda89 Maaaaaaybe we could get some non-Doctor Donna? Like it’s been long enough that the last remnants of Donna’s Doctor memories have faded so it’s safe for the Doctor to interact with her again
Your wish is granted
“Maybe they’d let us” AS IF they would stop a chance at those views!
I’m glad it’s not a full length season but I’m REALLY excited to see Tennant back in action!
Super excited for this time around. David and cathrine were my favorite duo.
Its gonna be iconic!
@@CrispyPro And I get to watch it live this time as I wasn’t a fan yet
Considering the Doctor ranges all over time and space, they could all be wandering around and any one of them could, in theory, pop into the show at any time. I'm so glad to see all three back, I just wish it was for more than just three episodes. I haven't watched since Matt Smith left - tried with the next two but just couldn't get into either of them and only lasted two episodes with both. Whether I'll make it beyond three this time remains to be seen.
Can’t wait for the 2023 episodes 👍👍👍
DT will always be a kid at heart for doctor who hes a REAL fan and we love it
I always thought they had this from the start. Because remember, David Tennant last line as the tenth doctor was "I don't want to go." So some fans have speculated that they're going to bring 10 back somewhere down the line.
He’a the GOAT is why
David tenant and Katherine tate in the same group text, what is This a crossover episode
doggy doggy what now!?!?
When you have great actors and a great script writer and they all work well together as a team then you have a winner!
The ballad of Russel and Julie. Great song if you haven’t heard it, it’s all about Doctor Who ❤❤
I’ve been rewatching the old doctors in preparation, and anytime I get to Tennant I’m reminded why his Doctor is the one I grew up with and loved the most. Cannot WAIT to see him back
Thank you chatherine tate and david tennant you said that
Im just super happy he is
‘Let’s do it, let’s do it. We’ll get the old Time
Lord back’
Doctor Who needs this come back
ugh I loved Tennant as the Doctor, with Rose and with Donna as well... so good! Makes me wanna re-watch it all
Actually, there is in universe explanation, that they can use and justify him back. In the 50th anniversary, in the end, when Tom Baker and Matt sat in the gallery, Baker said smth like: “You’ll have many faces and you’ll even came back to old time favorites”(I don’t remember exact lines). So basically, it’s all have a good in universe reason)
To boost the bloody ratings
Happy little accidents

"NOOOOO! David, what are you doing, you're making the show better by making a joke."
Is what my brain just thought for some reason
I'm glad that he's back and I hope that its for a whole season. His time as the doc was my fave personally.
You know what's funny? Remember back in the 50th anniversary Tom Bakers Curator did mention to Matt Smith's Doctor that he'd "revisit some of the old favourites" foreshadow at its finest if I ever saw one
To be fair with how Jodies run has been brining back David and Catherine should bring a bit of interest in it for the 60th before Ncuti takes over
David to stay!
The fact they did all this for the sake of the Fans just was amazing
Really makes “I don’t wanna go” mean something tbh
I wouldn’t mind if Matt Smith came back.
For me, there are two Doctors (I’m still working my way through Peter) David Tennant and Matt Smith
Originally when it got announced I thought it was going to be 3 episodes set in the s4 era but I’m still overjoyed with what we got
Im super excited to watch it this month
My favorite duo, 10 and Donna
When David Tennant as a idea for a anniversary special you just give him the script and ask what he needs
Every time the Doctor was due for a regeneration, there was always the speculation in the media that David could come back. Well, here we are...
😂😂 this just makes way too much sense and I love it
Of course it was Catherine!
I'm absolutely thrilled🥳
I have faith that shows will be fine with Russel t Davis as shown runner again because in my opinion the Russell t Davis era of modern who was the Golden age of modern who.
And we’re all thankful for it
Awww that’s literally so sweet
At least Tennant didn't say wouldn't it be interesting for rogue exiled timelords to create both daleks and cybermen to get their revenge on Gallifrey.
For some reason I could just imagine the answer being: “He asked.”
I'm so happy they are back ❤
Nah Russell knew and was just fishing. He walked em into it 😂
This will be interesting to see of Tennant's Doctor is the 14th.
After Christopher Eccleston regenerated into David Tennant there's a short clip in the Tardis. (It was a short special, not in the Christmas special. Rose is confused and demands that the Christopher Eccleston doctor be brought back. I forget the exact response, but the David Tennant Doctor replies that it's not possible. Curious to see it's explained ...
Starting off with a bang
I like David Tennant he’s my favourite doctor
I stoped watching Doctor who after Peter Capaldi and there’s a big part of me that wished that it ended after him. I mean I have no problem with Jodie Whittaker she a decent actress it’s just that after Capaldi I was never interested in watching the rest. But now that David is back Evan if only for a short bit of time I do feel like I would want to start watching the show again.
I thought he Denied that he'll be The next Doctor after Jodie Whittaker
He is back temporarily before Ncuti takes over as the 15th doctor😊
@@nivaneh1010 he did take the Andrew Garfield route when it comes to deniability

thought that was a little obvious. they're wrong ofc that's not why Davies came back but yknow.. there you go.
I love that every time i watch interviews of any doctor who character, they love the show and are passionate like the fans. Im cynical so i guess i expect more of a "here for a check" attitude but they're genuinely Whovian.
Yes
He's such a good actor tbh I would love him in the harry potter as lupin or Sirius black I know he was crouch Jr but I wish he had more screentime I hate they cut all the parts from the book because he's barely in it
Russell does four seasons then leaves along with David and Catherine.
Somewhere, Steven Moffat, Matt Smith, and Karen Gillian think it would be cool to come back to Doctor who... and the cycle repeats again.
I don't really watch Doctor WHO but in my personal opinion David Tenant makes the best Doctor in all 60 years of this long running series 👍👍👍
Hey I am wondering if there is a full interview/radio show of this?
Not gonna lie I don’t care how they reached the conclusion, they could’ve committed some heinous crimes for all I care. I’m just glad they’re back
“Yeah, it’d be funny if I could come back for a one-off or something, I guess”
“Alright bet”
If anyone can get Doctor Who back on track, it's 10! 🎉
My favourite Dr Who😊

No the real reason was because RTD was like "fine I'll do it again and save doctor who.... again" 😊😂
Can I ask a question.
RTD: Hey BeeBs, I was wondering, wouldn't it cool if hypothetically, David, Cath and I came ba-
BBC: OH THANK GOD RUSSEL! CHIBNAILS BURNING EVERYTHING TO THE GROUND. HERE! TAKE EVERYTHING! DO WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT JUST SAVE US ALL!!!!
yes he will be the best 13th doctor we could get
So he's here for the anniversary then the 14th doctor
Giving the show back to Russell was the only way to save it after Cinball
Let's be real here, he was always the best doctor. Capaldi came very close to tennants delivery and the seriousness he imparts. Smith just made everything a joke, had a couple good speeches. Go back and watch series 4 episode 10, "midnight" one of the best episodes to date, terrifying madness.
This is a huge step backwards for Doctor Who.
I’d give him 1-2 seasons as 14….sad they are not.
When is it even coming out i thought that one guy was the doctor now
I wish Tennant would just do another 3-4 seasons...
I love the way Scottish people speak
When is the new doctor who being aired?
25th November 2023
Honestly, we would prefer David to come back on a more permanent basis.🙏🏻🎥
Intruda-window, how else?
I forgot he was Scottish for a moment lol
BBC Exec: “We need something to bring back the viewers after the disaster the 13th doctor was.”

The greatest Dr Who that never was is , Benedict Cumberbatch.. 🧔🏻⏳
To me David Tennant is the doctor because I grew up with him during the revival series while women like what's his name with the square face I absolutely hate him and I'm just so appreciative that they chose David especially after I was introduced to him and Harry Potter.
omg they all still talk that's hilarious
