- ➪ Spread grass seed and soil fast with this lawn care 101 tip. To help germination, mix the seed and soil with a 2:1 ratio before you spread onto the lawn, or fill in patchy areas. This will help ensure seed is under the soil and water will settle in the loose seed on top. I get the best results with this simple method. Use a wheel barrow or bucket.

You have the best chances of success only because you had the right supervisor on the job.
Couple things here. Seed will germinate on top of soil, covering it will help hold moisture: if your layer is deeper then 1/8”-1/4”, the seed below this will be too deep to germinate, so it’s kinda wasted.
But main thing, you did an awesome job! Well done 🫶🏻 a good mow and that area will look awesome!
Good to know! I am attempting to fill in an old above ground pool area, along with the mess my huskies made of my yard! Never ending haha thanks for the tip!
@@lauracoteDIY ahh the pleasure of fixing old things lol, and pup things 😂🤣
Keep up the awesome work!
Haha pup things is accurate!
You have to mix the cedar with the soil and then lay it down?
I love to have nice grass in the front of my house, but rude people let their dogs relieve themselves on it
Wow thanks for the idea.. I have been researching about fixing a bad yard and this video is perfect.
Awesome! I have to fix my entire yard this spring as my digging huskies ruined all my hard work haha
Out of all the videos I've seen I enjoyed yours the most. Lol for whatever that's worth.
It’s worth a lot! Thanks for taking the time send this message.
The grass pet made my day
I am definitely doing this so excited ❤❤❤
I would soak the seeds 1st,then mix with soil, works faster.
Great tip!!
Growing my yard and boy its looking lovely
This process has worked well for me. I too have huskies that like to dig.
Ha so much digging!
i like your assistant.
Thank you!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I will be doing this soon.
Thx! This really shortens the time. I was laying soil then seed then mixing smh. This kills 2 birds 1 stone.
😊
Try it next time!
Love the dog
Bet you’ll like my other one too! czcams.com/users/shortshYUVV9Dpqvw?feature=share
Hi guys you made my day with this video I had heard about mixing but wasn't sure thank you.
That's great! Thanks for watching. Hope your grass is looking nice!
It looks like doggo is supervising the work on their yard.
You know it… ‘their’ yard haha
This is excellent
Thx
Hahaha. “Time to mow” clip with plenty of bare patch still in shot! 😂😂
I'm liking that background music 🎶 🎵
What a talent...
What seed and soil are you using !?
New subscriber here! Good job!
Thank you!
Wow! I'm going to do this 😎😎
*I have some seed pregerminating to do this over the weekend. Id yours turn out ?*
What kind of soil do you use?
The birds have a FEAST when I do that!
Nom nom nom 🐦
Scalp, dethatch, aerate then add new grass seed.
Who has that mind if equipment?
Grass!!!;
Great idea, I would've scalped first so it can be mowed together when the new grass is long enough.
Fair enough! I’ve since mowed the lawn, it’s catching up! Thanks for watching.
Please can I know the name of your sprinkler system ?
How did it turn out?
It actually grew it nicely. Then, my dogs dug giant holes everywhere so I’m currently repairing the lawn again this year!
I like using this method too. Never failed me!
Perfect!
What are the blue beads?
how long the seed grows
Which seed did you use? I can’t find plan Bahia seed anywhere
Can I mix it with any top soil? I have a few big patches that I’d love to grow grass again my backyard looks sad without grass
I’ve used many types of soil. I filled in an entire circle where a pool used to be. It also looked sad!
Thanks -cute helper 🐶
What is the recipe?
When would it be best to do this? Spring time? Like march?
Yes in spring
Thanks because I have this clay dirt and I need somethinggg.😢
Clay dirt is difficult to work with in many ways. I feel that pain!
I want my grass back my dog has mad a track 😢
LOL I swear I grow grass so my huskies can just dig it up 🐾
What about the birds eating the seeds
I'm new in taking care of the lawn I also have a small hay dry patch please tell me what brand you use
I used Scotts, but there are many options at your local store. You may want to ask and see what grass grows best in your region. Just water more than you think! Good luck.
It looked terrible when finished! Clumpy and patchy still. Big wads of grass
Thank you much, this video is very helpful 👌🙌🙌
Spread seeds
What are talking about seed will germinate on top and add peat moss for protection
how bout the birds? better to keep a 1/4 soil on top of seed
Pretty sure the brunt of that seed is “Annual” lawn seed not perennial so maybe check what you’re paying for people
This is a annual grass seed and is only a temporary fix. Once the grass goes dormant this grass dies of permanently and you’ll be redoing this area again
Well that’s interesting. I suppose I’ll find out what happens come spring! The method still worked. This bag contains: Creeping Red Fescue, Turf-type Perennial Ryegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass. Can you recommend some seed to use for next year?
@@lauracoteDIY I’m actually surprised that it has perennial grass in it. That seed is a fairly common “landscaper mix” and should work out okay. Usually that quick fix Scott’s stuff is all annual seed and will actually say for temporary fix on the bag. I don’t mind being wrong and I hope it grows well and lasts years.
@@thomaspaquette9991 it’s not about being wrong you just had me check the bag as this is something I honestly didn’t consider. So thank you for informing me about grass seed as I was unaware this was even a possibility! Thanks for watching.
There's nothing wrong with annual grasses, let some of your grass go to seed a few times a year, leave a strip along a fence un-mowed. It's so good for all of your garden
Is your grass re-growing? :) @@lauracoteDIY
How come when I just toss seeds on top of the lawn they grow anyways without any other steps
It just takes longer I find. I threw some seed down on top in a bare section and it’s taking absolutely forever to grow. The pre mixed has always seemed quicker, at least for my yard. Whatever works!
Can you list what you use so I can buy it from Home Depot or Lowes pls thank you great job
For this I used bags of Vigoro topsoil and Scott’s grass seed from home depot. I avoid soil bags meant for gardens. Look for topsoil or specifically lawn soil. Hope this helps!
When do you pack it down
I’ll just step on it after or leave it depending if there is a heavy rainfall coming. I found there’s many methods to seeding! What do you do?
How long did you water it for?
Heavy water until germinated, then go back to normal.
Heavy can mean 4x a day or 2x a day. If you’re just patching, I get a container of water and almost drown the patch about 3-4 times a day. If a section or whole yard, water it at least 2x if on an irrigation system, if not the hose and sprinkler for hours at a time. If you get rain, all the better. To germinate, that seed has to soak up all the water it can to start the taproot.
From where i can purchase this grass seed
Home Depot
two part soil, one part seed, not the other way around, by far. confusion persistent, does anyone understand ratios such as 2:1 by weight or by volume, either one, raise your hand?
I have some pretty serious erosion going on in my lawn, I planted clover, but only because I don't have a mower
How is the clover? I considered that at one point !
how long does it take the grass to grow out with this method?
7-14 days till you see small blades of grass popping up. Depends on a couple of variables. Don’t mow until fully grown and rooted though.
Duh! Why didn’t I do this??!!!
Asked myself the same thing as this was mid-project of filling in a huge space!
That is not 2 parts seed and 1 part soil. No way.
Yes a good method, but spread the mixture by hand, and rake it out. Too deep the seed won't sprout, too much seed together in one spot, will make the new grass compete for food and space, and the grass will literally choke itself to death and attract disease. I like your method anyway.
Would a hopper be the same as hand feeding?
Wow my boxer has dug every where. Think this would work? Is it safe around dogs?
My huskies have also ruined my yard! No mice, but many holes!! During seeding, I try to limit the time in the yard just for a few days.
@@lauracoteDIY hmm my boxer loves the yard. Maybe I’ll walk her more often
Dogs just RUIN grass, RIP grass 1 year later
😂💯
Literally just use peat moss
Look. At all the crab grass
Ya Working on it. I also have holes all over from digging dogs. The yard is a process.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
Screw Scott's brands and Monsanto Bayer
What do you recommend I try this year?
What help were you?
Screw your head on tighter.
@@abelgonzales3695Rude! He actually was asking you!
@@Tinyteacher1111 I wasn’t responding to the OP or Laura. It was someone else’s rude comment that must have gotten taken down.
@@abelgonzales3695 sorry!
Fail😂
Horrible for the ecosystem. Look
Up biodiversity in soil and how fungi can benefit soils from mass amounts of grass being grown. Fungi and bacteria levels must be the same in the soil in order for processes to work correctly.
You sound like my son
Yea no shit.
Man grass is a total waste except holding material in place, but you can do that with edibles and florals
Oh I like grass so my dogs can destroy it right after I get it looking nice lol 😆 I don’t disagree with you!!
Grass will totally germinate sitting above ground. Tf are you talking about? 😂
From were you got this grass Seeds bag ??
