  • A late mother's wedding dress is made into clutch purses for her daughters: the bride and maid of honor. This was a very easy project and I feel very honored to be trusted with this precious commission.
You've asked and I listened! After receiving a few requests, this is the first Completing a Commission video to have captions explaining what I'm doing in each clip! Let me know if it helps!

Oh What a wonderful gift. A beautiful legacy. I just love heirlooms
There is a woman on FB who makes little funeral gowns for Parents who have lost a child, from donated wedding dresses. Many times An illness consumes so much of everything - The little gowns are donated, so the parents can lay their little Anhel down to sleep in a gown fit for little Angels

I saw that post on Facebook too! I thought it was a beautiful gesture as well! I actually thought about that post the whole time I was making these purses. I was sure to only take fabric from the sleeves and train so the dress can either be reworn or remade into something, like a christening gown :)

What a great way to recycle a wedding dress! Love how the 'unwanted' material could be made into a lovely accessory-nothing wasted!

Thank you! My main goal was to only use the unwanted fabric and keep as much of the original gown intact as possible

I love the placement of the appliqué - simple and elegant.

I' m glad that you didn't destroy the wedding gown, just used the sleeves. Now it looks better and the clutches are beautiful.😍😁

Thank you! I was so glad I could preserve as much of it as possible. My mom's wedding gown was ruined by a leaky closet and I wanted to avoid having someone else's gown destroyed.

Very nice, I just wish you had this also step by step. I only have a little bit of my mother's wedding gown, (no lace) and would love to make something out of it.

Hi, Kristine! Here is the video I used to make these clutches. I hope it helps you! :D czcams.com/video/RvKIN6XRPpU/video.html

Looks simple, but I'm not that great a sewer. Was the applique the only thing you used from the dress? What kind of material do we buy for the liner and the outside of purse?

It's been a few years since I made this, but I think I used the fabric and lining from the train of the dress to make the purse.
