  • I was looking at a DRO to install on the Myford S7 and at the last London Model Engineering show I came across the embedded version that Machine DRO sold.
    www.machine-dr...
This seemed like a very nice kit with the main thing for me being the totally covered and out of the way cross-slide installation.
BTW! I am just a customer of theirs.. no other commercial involvment!
I hadn't seen this way of doing this "embedded" installation before and I wanted to try it as it seemed so functional. I also thought it was something that others might benefit from, hence the video.
I reckon it can be done on many other lathes, and to me it now seems the "only" logical way to do it. I will probably also try this on my EMCO Maximat as this also has a "full length" cross-slide table

I will also sell off some of the lot of 7 I bought (when finished restored)

@@andrewdolinskiatcarpathian OK. Then it is very convenient to source this from Allendale. Super service! Good luck on the installation.

Your lathe is similar to my jet 6x19. Your idea will work for me.
    Did good.

This will work on most lathes I guess. I like the "out of the way" cross-slide installation very much!

Nice DRO installation Jan! I want to install the same embedded solution on my Super7, but I also want to install a backsplash. How far from the back of the rear bed shear must the backsplash vertical wall be AFTER the DRO install? Thanks!!

Thnks! It will in practise add 4-5" to the overall length of cross-slide if you also take into account the cable bend

Where is the head for the magnetic strip located? Is there an online manual with the mounting instructions I can check? Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Cristian Armaselu The reader head is placed under where the added bracket to the cross-slide is, ie just behind the saddle. I think there is an online guide (check their website) if you look, otherwise just contact them. They were very responsive. Both for questions and for the order handling. Actually not happened to me before that I receive the package in less than 48 hours since I placed the order!

Is the strip magnetic enough to attract chips? Your installation looks good, I hope it proves to be durable equipment.

Not enough experience yet to tell how it will be in use in the long run, but it is surely equally "protected" as compared to the normal way of installing it.. and totally "out of the way". I guess this question is better asked to the supplier, Machine DRO.. will ask!
