- In this week's portrait painting video we will explore a more classical approach to oil painting. The painting process is extended to 3 layers (rather than just one) with the intent of making the process simpler to understand.

Beautiful and nice painting moreover yor step by step explanation is also very useful. The medium oil and solvents and it's effective usage and it's drying time according to the local climate conditions by chance if you explained in any of your video, kindly let us know.

I enjoy watching a good painter paint. I like using an under painting, too. I've gotten the habit of using a thin layer acrylic for it just because it dries so quick. I then continue on with oil.
I believe it's important to talk about and show the difference between a painting and a photograph. They are extremely different things, and they should look different. Keep up the good message.

Very useful tutorial. I learned a lot. One solitary criticism: in the final rendering, her neck is rendered as if it is impossibly narrow (rather than occluded by hair).

Awesome video! I love seeing different techniques for the under painting! I'm curious if this technique can be adapted to a full painting with professional Acrylics at all or does the drying time play a significant factor (offset with acrylic mediums?)

I am just beginning painting but I try to never make it like the photo exact.

Sure you can.
Hi! Yep yes, you can certainly use linseed instead of stand oil. In fact, stand oil is simply boiled linseed that has less of a tendency to yellow than linseed. The problem is it dries too slow and needs to be thinned with mineral spirits, but it’s not too bad. Hope this helps!

over dilluted oil painting is a lot like a bad painter 8 brush. Everything blends weird and brushes pick up WAY too much paint off the canvas.
One time I would like to see you just work on the painting and go as far as you choose to go.
No talking.
When it is done, you watch the silent video a few times, think about what you want to say, and make some notes.
Then, you add the narration.
Instead of talking while you are painting.
Personally, I think it is difficult to both paint and talk. If I am concentrating on the painting, I can’t be articulate about what I’m doing.
Now, this isn’t a mean spirited criticism,. It’s meant to be a helpful suggestion. So readers, please don’t tell me to make my own video etc.
Turn the sound off if you don't want to hear his words. I really enjoyed the information and need it to do that type of painting.
I really love your work, but I do have one objection. We all see color in our own special way, but your faces so often are not flesh-like with a green undertone, they have an overall impression of a pea green face, or in another one, an overall grey face with a distinct violet overall. Again, there is no doubt that those colors exist in flesh and in shadows, but they seem to be very obvious in your finished works in a way that makes it a bit distracting from the beauty of your work.

The good things to say - its nice of you to make the effort to help teach people to paint portraits. However I think would be students should learn to be more critical than your audience appears to be. For whatever reason flesh colors are awfull, like a horrid grey putty. The drawing is adequate but uninspired and obviously done from a photo rather than life which is relatively easy. The composition is also adequate but uninspired. The general choice of subject matter and the presentation is just hackneyed and pretentious meaningless and silly.
