I have never heard Benedict speak before. He has a steady, pleasant voice. What I have read of him speaks of his deep intellectualism. I am not Catholic but I respect him.

I owe much of my catholic conversion to this great pastor. His clarity and firm decision to put God at the center of intellectual dialogue allowed me to persevere as a philosophy student and understand the primacy of God in the human discussion.

Pope Emeritus Benedict became a Professor of Theology at the age of 28. The youngest Professor of Theology in the world! Archbishop Williams, the Anglican Archbishop, said of Pope Benedict when he met him, that he was "disarmingly gentle".

Funnily, as a German I can hear that he is from Bavaria the way he stresses certain English words. However, if people from my region in northern Germany speak English, I don't hear the slightest accent. 🤪🙃

Pope Benedict XVI is one of my favorite pipes of all time, just behind Pope St. John Paul II.

And the Pope speaks for over 15 minutes in his inimitable voice. He is fluent in German, English, Italian, French, and Spanish and has some knowledge of Portuguese.
And of course being a theologian understands both hebrew and greek. Benedict is fluent also in Latin. A gentle and shy man it is regretful that the press compares Benedict with Francis both different men and sensibilities.

Benedict XVI spoke I believe it was 11 languages! A very wise, intelligent man, a noted theologian, author and Holy Father. I love him, miss him dearly, given what succeeded him.

This very man whose work and teachings I have got to know for years and this very speech which I have come across today somehow sparked the love of god within me again after years of being a nonbeliever who thought that enlightenment could solely come from within oneself without the input of god and that god should not have a place in people's lifes because he was preventing people from believing in themselves and in their potential to grow as humans. Being raised a catholic,I even started marginalizing my parent's faith and in some sort critizing them for still believing in god, I truly hope god can forgive me for being a lousy bastard, long story short, thank you so very much pope emeritus for bringing the joy and love of god to my heart again and please dear brothers and sisters pray for me to grow in faith may god bless you all and the holy spirit bring joy to your lifes. Im sorry if this comment sounds negative. But I noticed that all the Pope in my lifetime are not preaching the gospel. Their sermons sounds monotonous. I am saying this not just because of wanting to criticize as I want all priest to be excellent preachers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their messages are very shallow and basic. I am a Christian too and I do really want to listen to Catholic priests preach the gospel about sin, repentance, in Christ alone, Judgement and hell, rewards in heaven, eternal life, healing, and salvation of souls. They all read their sermon, and not spontaneous.
Traditional Catholic priests from the SSPX, FSSP and ICKSP always talk about hell, eternal damnation, repentance, salvation on their sermons
