      John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

A few things when it comes to FNAF Security Breach there’s a few things that I have to say.
    1. The games do actually have some of their popularity from their challenge. For example a lot of people consider the second game their favorite because they feel it’s the hardest, one of the games Ultimate Custom Night capitalized on this.
    2. A lot of people actually hate the story and lore added by SB. One reason is because of it losing the paranormal atmosphere and on some level I agree. I get the 5th game and the books added some semi sci-fi elements with remanent (basically souls) but at least the paranormal factor was still there. Another thing people hate is that SB dug up lore from the first 6 games and put them in the end, even though the series was supposed to move past the previous games story with stuff introduced in the VR game (yeah, while I will defend the first 6 games, I will still agree this series needs to end).
    3. One thing that helped the series become so successful is the amount of fan games on the website Game Jolt, which added more screaming let’s play content, and a good few actually being quite good.
    4. I actually prefer the less animated jumpscares, because for one the more animated jumpscares kill any atmosphere the game has (the less animated ones do too, but to a lesser extent), and the more animated ones (in particular the first games) make me laugh.

12:56 I do actually prefer Atmospheric horror because it's not as easy to avoid as "oh be better" or "oh just watch a video" or "oh turn the volume down", which is why I suppose I liked the way Superliminal's horror-themed level was such a good section compared to the newer ACTUAL horror games, and while of course Superliminal isn't a horror game I still loved the section because it also managed to put a comedic aspect into things; all the blood was just red paint, the head you see through the window of one of the double doors? A comically large Pawn on a stool. I enjoy Atmospheric horror so much simply because it doesn't focus on shock factor but (when done properly) a constant unsettling feeling and rising tension, making those jump scares less "oh, scare 617!" And more "OH HOLY SHIT That's WHAT CAUSED THIS MESS!? I'M GETTIN' THE HELL OUTTA HERE!". Which is why I like BATIM so much, same in some parts for the earlier FNAF games (1-3 and I guess occasionally 5), because while in their case some emphasis is on the scare (by which I mean a LOT of emphasis) they still had some atmosphere to be scared of. 4 is a kids bedroom at night, and was all about the spooks. 6 felt like it nailed both of the separate settings but the scares were simply lacking. They just slid over like "Hello! I am going to gut you like a fish now! Goodbye!" (Spoken with the animated Bri'ish kid accent), which wasted the atmosphere (also the Ads kinda ruin the feel). Help Wanted managed to resurge SOME of the old ones but not very well on most of them. Of course the main area post-tape-completion was simply amazing in my opinion, but it got worse than it was in 4; via none other (after all, who else is left) than Security breach. Which is just... Bad. It's glitchy (-fear), too colorful (-fear), the scares aren't ever good (-fear), there's like 2-4 "scary" interactions and that's cause Music Man triggered my Arachnophobia somehow, the release for Switch (as seen on Backseat) is low res and crunchy (-fear), and overall nobody likes it.

I'mma talk about all of the things you mentioned now.
    Sonic.exe:
EXE to me is like a enemy turned ally. When I was 6 years old, me and my brother played the fangame on my computer (that's important trust me), and we got the usual cheap jumpscares and rtx mode EXE, which was mildly frightening as younglings. But what really scared us is the fact that it said my brother's name. Yeah, it didn't say my name, the account's name, it said my brother's name, who has a different account on a different computer. Needless to say, we were both scared shitless, because in our tiny little minds, we thought EXE was real and was out to get my brother. We couldn't sleep alone or use the bathroom at night for years. But now? EXE is like seeing a friend show up every now and then with something new and cool to show you everytime. The official Sonic.EXE remake; Sonic 2011 turned that mediocre jumpscare-fest into a really cool game, that is just oozing with effort and care. Even if it is still just a walking simulator.
    FNaF:
I used to be a FNaF fan, back when the story was interesting and mechanics were cool to see. But I left the fandom after UCN. Why? Because they were clearly milking the fuck out of a franchise that should've ended ages ago, but I still kind of stuck around until Security Breach, since it seemed cool with the trailers, but the release of SB was the final nail in the coffin. The game had almost nothing the trailers promised, it was barely even a horror game, and it was mind-numbingly boring, and I haven't even played it myself yet. I've just seen other people play it, and this is one of the only games I've seen that seem boring to me from a youtuber playing it. That said, FNaF will always hold a special place in my heart, with all it's nostalgic music, lore, and memories in general I've made with the games. No matter how bad the new games may be.
    BATIM:
I haven't ever played the game, I only really know it from a CZcamsr that I like who talked about it, and also from Indie Cross. It sounds cool, but I'm not gonna play it.
    Hello Neighbor:
My fondest memory of this game is watching FGTeeV play it as a kid. That's it. The creators constantly "subtly" telling MatPat to make a video on their show was just really desperate and sad, the game has clearly failed, and the worst part? It had serious potential to be something fun, or interesting. But it went from "Get in the Neighbor's basement and solve the mystery of what's inside" to "Get out of this failure of a game and find something else to play"
    Baldi's Basics:
This game is surprisingly good! The game is kinda fun, and somewhat educational. The goofy graphics don't take away from the game, as it's not really supposed to be super scary, just mildly scary. It was also fun watching people try to figure out the answer to the impossible question, even though I'm pretty sure there wasn't one. I'm not that caught up with it, as I forgot about it for a while and by the time I remembered it, I lost interest, but it's still not bad for a game made in 10 minutes.
    Advanced Education:
i've literally never heard of this game lol
    Poppy's Playtime:
Okay, so I don't know much about this game, but from what I do know, it's that this game is if FNaF, BATIM, Hello Neighbor, and Chucky had a baby. Obnoxious puzzles, delayed chapters, going to old workplace to see it's actually spooky now, giant furry mascot things that hunt you, and alive murder toys. Any of those things ringing a bell? Not to mention it's so obnoxious to see now because kids content creators just cannot stop milking this game's udders like it'll produce the best milk in all the lands. But to be fair, kids content creators do this with anything that's popular, regardless of if it's intended for kids or not, which might paint the game as a game for kids when it's not (cough cough FNF cough cough)
    Andy's Apple Farm:
i have also never heard of this game

    • @ColisTheCrystalKeeper

      Oh about andy's apple farm

The point in chapter 1 is to finish every mini game andy's friend give to get bonus sticker and after that you will be given your prize which is andy's house key
But before that, each mini game have secrets and those secrets is something important to the lore

Honestly i feel like conner only scratched the surface of Andy's apple farm. It makes sense seeing how this video isnt just focused on that game alone but if you ask me it's got so much he didnt even mention. You wont get everything from just one playthrough. The order of the minigames matter. If you do Margaret's minigame first then melody's minigame will bug out. If you drag the little boy's corpse along the bottom of the lake something else will happen. Even when the game bugs out and you are forced to restart, if you wait on the "uh oh something went wrong" screen you start to hear strange sounds! And that isnt even mentioning the Christmas version which has even more to see!

To be fair the first few alphas had promise and weren't even trying to be scary, just invoking the uncanny valley and making you paranoid of what the neighbor was defending.
The draw then was that the neighbor was supposed to block your previous ways in, and then start to _predict_ what you might try next. It was supposed to LEARN what you did and get more and more challenging, with the anxiety coming from the game starting to read your next moves.
And the game devs managed to drop the ONE feature everyone was lapping up like spilled chocolate milk on a clean tile floor.

In all fairness, I don't think Baldi's Basics was ever SUPPOSED to be scary. All the "scares" are played for laughs, the threats are harmless (it's implied Baldi just spanks you, rather than killing you or anything), and there's a sense of absurdist surreal comedy the whole way through. It reads as a parody of indie horror to me much more than it does an actual horror game. Now, the fans and CZcamsrs who take it seriously, on the other hand...I've got nothing.

One thing to take away from all of this, while I don't think every game in this video is like this, one thing that some child horror games excell with is conveying the idea of *nostalgia based horror.* Something that I think FNAF "pioneered" in. Nostalgia based horror is basically taking something that we can associate with childhood memories like going to a friend's birthday, the playground, going to a daycare center, watching our favorite TV shows on VHS, etc.
I think FNAF and other similar games took this concept of having an innocent and safe place that we can all regard in our childhood memories and turn it into a twisted and perverted narrative. Like killer clowns or sharks!
This concept only got further tweaked with the rise of ARG and analog horror videos on CZcams and TikTok in the recent years. Andy's Apple Farm is a lot like the mini games in the classic FNAF games where the lore is being expressed to us through an arcade/Atari playthrough. We are seeing something very brutal happen but it's being shown using analog technology like CTR television and VHS recordings.
It's found footage meshed with childhood memories. "Skinamarink" is an experimental movie that I think dives into this concept

FNAF ruins the search engine when searching for real animatronics as it just get flooded with terrible Fnaf OC drawings from kids who don't know what an animatronic is. It's like when you try searching for real ponies and you only get MLP stuff. You need to fill the search bar with tons of keywords related to FNAF or MLP with -minus signs in front to even search properly for these simply stuff without only getting FNAF or MLP stuff.
But I really miss those years before MLP and FNAF was so popular and it was much easier to search for ponies and animatronics. Mostly animatronics since I love technical things.

I think one of the main problems with most of these games for kids is that their lore can be hard to follow for the supposed target audience. And I love lore, don't get me wrong; games like Metroid Prime and Bioshock have really intriguing backstories for those inclined while still giving you solid experiences even if you ignore them. Hello Neighbor is one of the worst offenders for bloated lore because it's the driving force, yet is overly complicated. All you need to know is "hey, kid died, dad accidentally kill other kid. The end!" But instead it has a bunch of books to try to expand on it, and I'm like "why is this so important to know about?" FNAF isn't that much better, and even its movie got a little confused trying to follow it, but at least the franchise can sorta justify the deeper narrative better than Hello Neighbor. I have a feeling Baldi's Basics was sorta mocking the idea of lore, given how the secret ending is all like "nothing to see here, folks, you can go home now." I think my favorite lore is My Friendly Neighborhood cause it subverts the expectations of the cursed puppets being evil. Now it's the corporations that are evil! The worst thing that happened to Gordon happened long before going to the happy home of the Seseme Street homages. In fact, going to investigate the supposedly sinister reawakening of My Friendly Neighborhood may just be the wake up call Gordon needs to restore his long lost hope. And it's all easy to follow; I think a 6 year old could understand what's going on in it. You may think the gameplay being a Resident Evil clone is a bit silly, but look at Chex Quest; that game is well liked for basically being "Doom at home" but still a well made kids' alternative, and I think the same can be said there.

  • @lolbitmanss_
    @lolbitmanss_ Před rokem +8

I mean honestly i think the whole thing about horror games becoming "for children" is the fact that everyone is growing up. These things arent as scary for us anymore and children are growing up probably coming off yt kids seeing all these characters portrayed in a goofy perspective so when they play the actual game they dont think much of it. The only real deterrent to this is super gorey shit but even that wouldnt scare many others since theres even kids who play GTA,Jrs's, etc other games. I think that the whole mascot horror genre is just dying in general, our standards for whats "for kids" has decreased so much that almost anything can pass for kids.
