Just re-reading An Evil Cradling. Superbly written, life-changing stuff. So much respect for you and for John, too. Very best wishes to you, Brian.
I recommended it to a well read and learned friend. In his 60s, masters degree in psychology. Great interest in the human condition. Said its the best book he's ever read.
💜🙏💜
@@19grand Wow! It's a great book!
@@19grand I'm a barely educated nobody. It's the best book I've ever read too.
I watched his interview on the late late show in Ireland..when he first came back... he influenced my entire outlook on life...the powers of the human mind to endure.. overcome..and survive...the most appaling of circumstances..
In 1992 I read Brian's book - I kept this book on my book shelf all this time (often glancing at it on my book shelves) - too inspirational to loan to anyone, very moving - - just read his book again - more mature now as a person. I also lived in the Middle East - so I know exactly what he was talking about in some chapters of the book - some of which only those of us who have lived in the Middle East understand.
Me too!
I found it in a second hand book store after coming back from Beirut, I couldn't believe I had found such a Book on the very issues still facing Beirut & Lebanon!
And I too can't bring myself to lend it to anyone! I refer them, but I just don't want to risk losing it!
Terry Waite apparently was also kidnapped not long after these two...
If I remember correctly, he was a Religious Leader who attempted to secure their release, but was kidnapped himself!
Yes, I was correct, Terry Waite attempted to negotiate their release...

I just watched Blind Fight (2003) on youtube. Great film and a very inspiring man, thanks for the upload!
30+ years on from reading his book "An Evil Cradling" I have always been fascinated by how these 2, Keenan and McCarthy learned fundamentally different life lessons from the same experience. The orange episode will I believe live with me until the day I die.
"You can go into a state of constant panic"
I know the feeling...
just re-read Brian Keenan's book - An Evil Cradling - truly an amazing man.
Just re-watched the Film...
I'm reading BLIND FLIGHT
@@stephenogo1639 thanks for that - I will check that book out.
Doing my Leaving Certificate project on this man, so much to learn and find out from him.
Love him. The heart of a lion and the warmth of a peat fire.
💜🙏💜
I read his book twice one of the most insightful book ever wrote about the human condition of the mind he was so honestly bold and vulnerable in his writing that it touched me so much ❤❤❤❤
"The founder members of the most exclusive club in the world which nobody else wants to join" Lol!
😂🤣😂
"I don't know WHEN they are going to kill me, so WHY would I worry about going Mad?"
Ive read his very moving book about his account of his time in captivitiy in Beirut. His courage is truly admirable. However, he states that he wanted to leave Belfast because of the warring factions & stagnant unrest there which is completly understandable, only to choose Beirut which was also war torn.!? Like going from frying pan into the fire!?
Im aware my question sounds arrogant & probably heartless, but it is something i struggled with overall. No doubt i need to read it again perhaps.🤔
“Get the pan on mother!”
God bless you Brian.
One of the most moving testaments to the human spirit is what An evil cradling is. This should be taught in schools.
What a pity they couldn't have found a more experienced interviewer!
💜🙏💜
He got his teeth done.
I don't think Hotel Islamic Jihad would have had an on call dentist!
@@brownsugar747 I not sure where my trivial, sarcastic, and somewhat disrespectful to Brian Keenan comment came from. I would not make such a comment today, and yet that was only six months ago.
Shocking interviewer. But what a guy!
What a wonderful man, but terrible interviewing technique! Don't just read questions from a sheet of paper, engage with your interviewee. Turn it into a conversation, follow up on his answers.
Give her a break, she is a young woman.
C'mon she's a teenager! Probably a little nervous. Maybe never even done this before. Give her a break.
She is YOUNG!
She is learning!
