Mate, it is another Nissan but the main thing is you got your Dad the most appropriate car for the money. He’ll be able to do the trips with you and that’s the most important thing!👍
💯 %
These things are rare now .. any channel doing these over a 79 is automatically 10 plus bonus points in life this should be awesome
touch base with Pete from ultimate 9 and recreate that build for your old man. Pete's GU is low wide stable and a monster offroad! i can see your old man hurting some feelings on 2" and 33's if you set him up right 😉😂😂
Pete's GU is a weapon off road and Pete is very good driver
Great to see Gary getting something more capable! All the best with the build before the weekend!
Thanks mate! We have been hooking in 😁
We do like Gary , we need some more shots of him with his shirt off , he is the star of the show.
Awesome buy. You won’t wipe the smile off your dads face when we takes it off road
Definitely!
Nice buy. You're right about the overall costs of making these more capable and functional, which many folk don't realise early on. In short, they cost heaps of cash to modify!
How exciting Gary !
We love having Dad on the adventures
Be interesting to keep it more average in modifications and see how far it can get
Lockers, tyres , 2 inch lift, bush barriers , winch
Not a budget build but a comfort build. Spend it where you know it needs it and have fun trying things on the rest
Yeah for sure!
Great choice Tyler and Gary. Noting wrong with a crd, mines done 290k now. Definitely add tilix kit, welded intercooler, scanguage and egt gauge to the list as well.
Congratulations to Gary. It looks like a good buy. Looking forward to the build.
Looks good! Gary will enjoy his new wheels. That Mux has done a fantastic job.
the mux did wat it needed for Garry n now dad wants the next step in his touring/offroading life. looking forward to the build that Garry has in mind for the big Pat. so awesome Garry.
Makes perfect sense to get the patrol. Happy driving
Great choice! Such a good price too..
excited to see how you guys build it up and take it on your future trips..
Yep, keep the lift as low as possible. This way, it will still look good on 33s and will be more stable on the tracks than your GU. Just go longer shocks and keep it simple for now.
Garry is going to love it! 😎
nice car. i recently got my 1990 efi 80 series with reg for 6.5k so happy and cant wait to see the build vids on your dads new
car
Might not be the best for content, but it is the best for your old man. Very realistic build too for the every day battler out there, keen to see it keep up with you guys 👌
Yeah for sure!
Looks like he got exactly what he wants😊
Very clean looking too!
Can't wait to see it in action😊
The auto diesel has a good transcooler setup just needs the transcooler in the radiator bypassed. If you want it to shift a bit firmer you can unplug the plug on the firewall where the clutch master on a manual would be.
Don't unplug the resistor.
Gday, bloody good to see Gary stepping up a bit, the MUX has done a fantastic job but the time is here, great video mate, cheers
I have a 2009 ZD30 CRD Patrol with a front locker on 33's and it's been an amazing rig, the engine does make me nervous at times but in terms of offroad capability it's incredible. Great choice Gary!
Hey Tyler and Gary, love the relationship you fellas have together and shared interests ! I owned a GU ZD30 for many years….. fantastic 4by out in the bush and on road everyday driving ! Absolute must have spare to carry is a genuine Nissan serpentine belt and tensioner assembly with pulley fitted (please don’t go aftermarket just don’t last) its not if - but when - the bushes and hydraulic arm of the assembly will flog out and give you trouble on the tracks ! Change just the tensioner pulley annually with all the off-road work you will be doing, Also doesn’t hurt to carry a genuine MAF sensor they can be temperamental and a show stopper too. All the best fellas….
Smart plan mate. Cant wait to see him get it muddy!!
A worthy build series indeed! 🎉
Absolutely love that you got your Dad one of the most capable 4wds on the market! He is going to enjoy it so much! Well done guy's 👏 ✔️
Thanks! 👍
A good choice for your dad there a great truck I bought one 8 months ago I do hope the poor old bugger is going to up grad to a roof top looking forward to the build and the first trip cheers legends 😄
Awesome stuff mate. Looking forward to seeing the next episode
Congrats Gary and good find Tyler. Gunna be a good base to build Dad a nice setup.
Great buy!
First mod I'd do is a decent bull bar and winch, eveything else looks good to get started with.
Nice clean patrol! Good buy.
That is soo cool! Reminds me of my father, who decided that it's time to buy the harley he wanted his whole life at the age of 77, after he'd seen me, bringing my big twin home. 😊👍🏼 My Parents bought a campervan also, after we'd gone on our first trips with the offroad caravan and we met on several trips with them now, what is great for the whole family😀👍🏼
That's awesome mate!
Love it! Nothing wrong with “another bloody Patrol”!
Jeez it looked good cruising down the freeway! Love it
The GUs are great 4x4s we went the same way from a 17 MUX to a 15 GU only regret is fuel economy. Our MUX was making the dreaded police siren sound in the turbo so it had to go, much happier with the GU.
Finally!!!! He needs it and deserves it!
Congratulations on the purchase. I was wondering when it was gonna happen.
Excellent Gary's back in the game. He won't look back. Nice choice 👍
Looks like a good buy. Solid axel for the win 🏆 💪
Nice buy, will make things easier with common spares etc
Have owned my identical (2008 aswell) wagon but manual for coming on 7 years now and no intention on selling her any time soon. Have done over 120k on it (has near on 300k) and has been running 21psi factory turbo on a custom remap since about 230k with no massive issues. Definately get a boost controller if it doesnt have one already and maybe egr block and upgrade the intercooler even if just a cheap ebay welded item. Theres a reasonable these are so popular!!! Mine sees alot of off road albeit mainly beach stuff they are a great balance of capable off roaders and comfy long distance tourers!
Front mount cooler and intake kit from fabwitz.
Solid Tensioner pulley coz they grenade
Superior 3inch lift
New front bullbar and winch
Lights
Simple dual battery system
Front locker
DONE.
Also service the auto and by pass/replace the auto rad cooler cause it'll fail filling the auto with coolant. The engine? Well, it's a time bomb unfortunately so treat it very kindly.
Good mods mate!
@@ericjohnson6802 it's a crd mate not a di will last forever if he gets it tuned by someone who knows there stuff. Ie evolution tuning 👌 mines got nearly 400k and no blow by still kicking on with the stock turbo to 😅
You only go for the best mate, and you've definitely nailed it again 👌👌i hope dad enjoys every bit of it. Series 6 i guess that makes it being a 2008👍
Great choice! That would be my next choice as well
Great video looking forward to the build 👍 happy wheeling dad ❤
Thanks 👍
Great choice, looks mint
Where you got it was in my neck of the woods - Central Coast. Congratulations to your dad. Looks like a fine vehicle. Let the build begin. 👍👍
As a coastie I feel like there's more patrols here than everywhere else lol
@@Jacobtheunwise Grandpa spec Patrols (and Cruisers) are an endangered species now. There's less and less of them around as the years roll by.
Keen to see you guys put it through its paces! 💪🏼
Thanks man!
Awesome un molestered rig
Look forward to how the old man sets it up 👍
We have a crd just clicked over 360k bone stock and no major issues
Being bone stock probably helps, a lot of people boost them to the moon and then complain when they break.
The patrol makes sense , you guys can all share parts on some bigger trips etc. itll all work well. Congratulations Gary 👍👍🤠
Thanks mate 👍
Excellent. smiles for gaz 😊
Oh nice! I was actually looking at this exact car and thinking it would be a good buy for anyone looking for a GU.
Love the Gu 👌 can’t wait to see what you n dad do with it
I felt sorry for him having to go around on easier tracks or missing out. He will love it
Even though it’s another Patrol, the GU4 has a number of differences to your current GU, it’s a 3L diesel which is different to the petrol GU and and TD42 in the GQ. Looking forward to seeing the build!
Yeah for sure!
I was thinking this exact thing on your last high country vid when Gary had to sit some of those tracks out. I honestly thought you would go down a different road than another patrol but i completely understand your reasoning as to why you got it. And lets all be honest, you cant beat a patrol for off road work.
The mux has been great but its most definitely time.
Yeah I definitely reckon he will be much happier with a more capable 4WD!
Gould on you dad, after watching the other Patrols yours should be great. Looking forward to seeing you both in action. Bill Mc
Thanks!
Only need tires and recovery points. The other Patrols in the group have winch and its not like it will need it, it is a Patrol after all.
Can't argue your reasons but the thing with the MUX that will be missed was seeing how a more basic vehicle handled the obstacles.
Great choice Garry. I hope it gets set up the same as Tylers patrols so all challenges are made equal.
Good buy. You probably have some spare parts for it already.
About time you got Gary a real truck!! He will truly make the most of it!!
Congrats Dad miles of smiles ahead. Hope you engaged all the off-road settings on the test drive. What’s dad going to do with the MUX?
6.2 Cummins Gary!
105 comes also with a 1HD-FTE, but that doesn't matter once Gary shoehorns that 6.2 Cummins in
Plans?? Got to get those strobe led whip aerials
Another Nissan..yea! Nice pick up.
Looking forward to seeing how your dad mod's this GU.
I just purchased a clean low klm, Navara this week... Already added new A/t's 👍👍
Yeah nice mate!
That is an awesome buy Start control of Pete of 24 seven he loves his and it’s very capable vehicle outdrive some of the other boys can’t wait to see it finished
Thanks mate!
congrats!
Nice buy Gary 👌 glad to see you in the mighty zd patrol. Roll on the mods 🤘
P.s that cooler needs replacing asap
That coolant pressure tank should be full,🤞it’s doesn’t have a cracked head.
That GU is NEAT.
Who cares if it's a Toyota or a Nissan. The main thing is getting out there and having fun 👍
P.S I have a Toyota Landcruiser 😉
It's so good you can do this stuff with your Oldman ❤
Those 4 speed autos are very highly geared in low range (only 24.6:1). A set of reduction gears and/or regear diffs to 4.625:1 will really make a difference.
Coming from a zd30 owner one of the best mods for reliability is a front mount cooler and tillix kit with a tune to suit will make it super reliable.
Thanks mate!
Depending what your old boy is doing with the mux it could be worth swapping the 4jj1 into this patrol. That could be fun
Nice 1. Cant wait to watch Gaza get it on the tracks
🎧 Perfect Song Choice 🎼
Good choice 👍
As solid as these are they don't do tough tracks with mild mods. had a 2008 aswell for 5 years, setup like a tourer and it just didn't perform with the weight, size and lack of power. I've changed to a np300 nav, Its way nicer to drive and very capable as you would know.
That said I have a ti 2009 tb48 that build with no intention of touring, flexy lift, 35's and barwork it puts my old gu to shame.
I wish I had thought of that name for a build 😂
Transcooler, intercooler, tune from Evolution tuning. In beerwah Queensland
Great news for the old fella and great to see him getting his own big rig!, good plan keeping it as a "smaller" patrol.
Please please please throw the factory alloys in the bin BEFORE one parts company and leaves you on 3 wheels with no warning. Well known issue fo a reason:
Basic cause is over tensioned wheel nuts distorting the rim but theres more too it. Squashed and distorted wheel nut seats not allowing the rims to abut correctly on the hub face, or allowing the domed nuts to bottom out and feel tight, but the rim isnt actually under tension and then works the nuts loose....
At 100kmh if your lucky you will feel a slight warning wobble before they go walkies. If your not, you will wonder wtf that thing was off to your side bouncing through tree tops before you slam into the ground....
Cheers for the tips mate!
The Jeep Wrangler would have been good and aren't as unreliable as some people think. People often complain about stuff breaking on Jeeps, but then give a blind eye to stuff breaking on Toyotas and Nissans when they go wrong.
However, where you are, I think you made the right choice with the Patrol as it would be better supported. While there are excellent parts and accessories for Jeeps in Aus, the best stuff always found in US and you would be looking at having stuff shipped over. It would not have made much sense.
Good one Garry👍👍
Not the MUX! 😢
Keen to see the build on the patrol 👌
Stock GU on 33s is significantly more capable and more durable than a modified IFS ute on 35s.
I did similar, had the a PX1 Ford Ranger, thought IFS was suitable but instead found out CVs are consumable items.
Don't overlook the best upgrade after front locker - a valve body upgrade. This will give engine braking in 1st low, a massive benefit offroad. Maybe some 63% reduction gears as well, so Gary can go down and up knarly stuff easily. Throttle control - yes, helps massively on bouncy uphill stuff. Toss the factory intercooler because it's leaking and get at least a welded one. Check if it's got a Tillix valve to support the boost control. Put a second battery in the front wired in parallel so winching gets enough power supply.
Cheers for the tip mate!
Father and son love, it's great to see. My father, the bottle of beer, was more love than his son.
Have a look at Aussie Arvos dash mount Atoto head unit.
Great now everyone will be chasing a gu patrol. lol. He won’t want to drive the mux anymore. Once again thanks for the great and genuine content. Can’t wait to see what it can do.
Cheers mate!
Looks good mate 👌 can’t go wrong with a Nissan my d22 is a rig
Great choice and hands down better than the MUX.
He'll love it
Buying an older 4x4 to drive around… you’re a man who knows best! Haha.. the GU will be perfect… don’t make em like they use to…
Congratulations Gary on your new vehicle, at least we know Tyler will have a few old replacement parts lying around the shed for emergency use! LOL No seriously mate enjoy to the max, looking forward to seeing your first adventures in it!
Thank you!
Awesome about bloody time, I feel for the old fella, actually Tyler you took 2 more steps, the GU TB then the GQ and 3 engines later! right I'm watching the rest, more coms to come probably. Another Nissan🤣3.0l 🤣 Engine swap coming in again!🤣
well congrats to your Dad, chassis and body looks good, not convinced on the 3.0 without some sig upgrades like Rad/FMIC etc!
33s seem a bit light for a GU, why you aren't matching guys on 35s! 37s are overkill agree, but clearance after you and Burto have shredded the tracks he's gonna need 35s! I still see an engine swap, imo the only engine worth having in a LC or Patrol is a 4.2 unless its a 70s for the V8 and rightly so not right car for him! Its just what's right for the size of these rigs, I don't know what the hell Nissan were thinking when they made the 3.0 and 2.8 versions of the TDi, something Toyota never did either just saying🤪
Roll on the build, surprised you didn't have Burto with ya, he must have disliked the 3.o engine option also🤣
End of the day as long as ya Dad is happy, no just build it into a sic rig for him, don't knobble his arse huh,🤘
Great vid... got a bit of work to do.....
Looking forward to a nice realistic build. Will be great. Fun fact, I'm around the corner from blue flame, could have stopped in for beer 😂
Thanks mate!
Series 4 patrol you’d want to lift that dash mat as well!
No cracks or bubbling on the dash mate
Music used by Mitsubishi Motors Australia- love it.
Dad deserves upgrade 👍👍
