My experience with the XT5, the autofocus especially for animals and pets was great. The resolution bump was noticeable. After a few days use I noticed a dead pixel on the rear screen. Sent it back for a refund. Waited three weeks for a replacement which is still on backorder. Cancelled the backorder when I realized I'm still perfectly happy with my x100v and XT3. In the end I just couldn't justify the cost of the XT5.

The dead pixels seem to be an issue with whatever screen they're using on these newer cameras, I have a friend with a XH-2S which also has a dead pixel, he also has a XT-5 so well have to see if he has any issues with it.
Thank you so much Roman for these useful thoughts about the X-T5. I purchased the camera and I use it along with the X-T4 for travel and street photography. I use both cameras whenever I am outside shooting because simply I don’t like to change lenses on the go. My typical set up is XF 35mm F2 on the X-T5 and the XF 16mm F1.4 on the X-T4. Thanks for the tip as well. I applied it already. 😊
You're my favorite photographer on CZcams. I've been taking photos for almost 2 years now and take a lot of inspiration from your photos and try to learn from them. I have an X-T30 and am waiting for my X-T5 to arrive now.
Really happy so far with the XT5! I love that recall C1 Function mapping feature. Allows me to switch from color to B+W instantly. Genius new feature!

I love your custom mode trick! One thing that's surprised me with the X-T5 is that almost any change I make only applies to particular Quick Menu group I'm in, and is a permanent change until I change it again. Which means you can have seven vastly different groups of settings to toggle between. Which is all good fun for simulating old film types or for responding to certain environments, but I've used your trick to allow me to toggle back and forth between them an a lovely generic group that I can trust to get good detail in any light. To reduce wear and tear on my camera, it's also the only group fully set to a shutter other than electronic, so that I can switch to it in one button press when needed.

One of very few opinions I take to heart right here. Even with a bigger price difference here in the US it was still close enough for me to choose the XH2. However, when I feel it’s time to add a street only camera, the XT5 is at the top of my list. Looking forward to the coming videos!

I feel so much better watching this, Roman! Thank you. It completely justifies my XH2s just perfectly 😃. I have extremely small hands and wrists so the XT5 would have been perfect, size-wise. Fortunately the XH2s is on the border of being just the right size and weight. I don't need all those pixels! On the bad side, I don't care for the articulating screen since I'm 60% street photographer, but for other 40% of events, I'm a very happy camper with my XH2s!
Excellent overview. Really useful, and reinforces my New Year plan to upgrade from X-T2, but only to an X-T4. Not easy for me to justify the extra £££s for an X-T5, for the reasons that you mention. Really liked the deep-contrast shadow shots around London, too.
Great video and yes, it takes time to truly review this hardware. I’m still learning it after more than a month and a half. I don’t agree with all the naysayers arguing that it’s an unjustifiable upgrade. If you’re a Fujifilm photographer and have been on one of the older bodies, comfortable with the system and menus, and use these cameras professionally, it’s truly justifiable. I have found it as reliable as the X-T3 and the focus system greatly improved. The enhanced video features are a great added benefit. But with any new system/processor, it takes time to learn how to use it. It’s not completely turnkey. Great video.
Great review. so far I love this camera which is no surprise since it is so similar to T3 and T4 and I love them too. I think it's a suitable upgrade and build quality can only be judged over time (as you said). I think the X-H series is not a matter of "if you can afford it." Fujifilm is so darn affordable that it really comes down to preferences. That's why they make so many different models, different cams for different people.

I got mine on day of release and absolutely love it. When I first opened the box I honestly thought they'd sold me an X-T30, it looked that small. Mine will be my main stills camera alongside an X-T2, with an X-T4 for mainly video work. Loving the extra resolution already :-)
As an X-T4 user, I tried the X-H2, hated it and returned it. The form factor was too big for travelling (for me anyway). Also what keeps getting missed is that X-H2 range only have 7 presets which have to be shared between video and photography. On the X-T5 you get 7 presets for each. Its size is also compelling - it feels way better in my hand. As for the flippy screen, even as a videographer primarily, I much prefer the tilt screen - it is faster to set up. But then I don't ever video myself - so I guess I understand it is an issue for those that do.
I went with the X-H2 and am very happy with the better the components, handling and build quality over the X-T5. The EVF and shutter on the X-H2 is so satisfying.
By far the best “first looks review” I’ve seen on this camera and looking forward to the follow up to see how you’re getting along with it next year. I’m trying to patiently wait for the Xpro4, but the Xt5 is so tempting.

Thank you for sharing that both informative and beautiful video 🔥. I got an XT4 beginning of the year (I’m coming from an Xe3) and I really think it is a very capable and fun to use camera. Throughout my journey with the xt4 I mainly complain about the flipping screen, the chunky feel of it and sometimes the autofocus.. I was about to sell my Xt4 and upgrade but the main concern I have is about the files size .. how much bigger are the 40MP files and how much impact would it have on the storage/editing system you use ? Thanks for that feedback!

Currently shooting with an X-Pro2, I'm VERY tempted by the X-T5. I just sketched out on squared paper the difference between the coverage of the 40Mp sensor and that needed to fill a 4K screen. I often shoot at waist level and the potential for cropping, straightening and reframing is insane! Like the one-touch custom mode idea by the way.👍

All depends what you are upgrading from. In my case from an X-T20. And I like the the top dials and the tilting screen versus X-H2

I own xt20 and updated to XT5 and be very happy with the camera. Pairs really well with 90mm F2.0. focus speed is way faster and IBIS is really impressive.

Since the X-T5 came out I got a pretty decent deal on the X-T4 at my local dealer with the 18-55 lens and went for it. Personally for me it is a big improvement from the Nikon D350s which I bought after Highschool in pretty much every aspect. Since I don’t crop a lot or blast my pictures on house walls the higher price wouldn’t have justified the pixel increase for me personally. I am happy to join the Fujifilm family and are looking forward to a lot of great photo sessions. Thanks Roman for your videos and inspiration that have been part of getting back into this wonderful hobby!
Yeah totally agree. I'm tempted to get the X-T4 with the 16-80mm lens for same price as X-T5 body only.

The 5 seems an interesting beast. Some noteworthy improvements over the 4 but not so drastic that I feel compelled to take the loss on my 4 and upgrade right away.
yeah I agree... the 4 is still more than good enough for most... unless you really need the best AF and eye detection... most people don't

For me, I will NEVER part from a flip screen. That in itself is a total deal breaker for me on the X-T5.

Just bought two xt4's recently in new condition, both has less than 1500 shutter counts. The two cost about the same like a xt5. Super happy with it.

I feel like the X-T4 hits that sweet spot. Some XH features in an XT body. I.e. flip out screen and battery grip and a better built. I feel like I’d be giving up more upgrading. Instead of needing two cameras just one. Either way the X-T5 is a great camera but for my needs the X-T4 fits more for me.
Used XT 4 are max £1000 for a like new item at MPB. If you don’t mind a bit of scratch it’s like £850!!! Clean sensor and all. No brainer deal, so glad to have been able to now afford one and sell my xt30 😊
Super happy with my X-T4, but as I bought that second hand from a store with 2 years warranty for 1250€ one year and a half ago, I’ll probably get the T5 in a year or more with a similar formula, cause I really like the dials and everything form factor. H2 is super performant but I don t need that and I’d not be crazy about the design found in all other brands. Kills a bit of the magic doesn’t it ahah? Super personal opinion of course, H2 is an amazing camera.
Glad you mentioned the way dials and buttons feel. I was recently on the hunt for an upgrade for my xt2 but found that both xt3 and xt4 felt cheap on my hands compared the xt2. I decided to keep my camera for a few more years. I wonder if it is related to fujifilm moving its production of xt cameras to china or not. I also would like to compare my xt2 with xh2 and xt5

We have 1 X-T5 in our mix of cameras, and don't have a bad word to say about it. (but I am more than happy with the X-T3s too since i don't print bigger than 18" x 12" and don't need to crop)
We don't own any of the X-H cameras and the reason for that is we don't need the deep buffer, and the cost difference between the XH2 and X-T5 was a lot more in reality, due to the need to buy CF Express type B cards that would have added at least another £500 to the price, when currently we have lots of very fast SD cards.
Eventually I'm sure we will need to make the jump to CF Express type B cards with new cameras, but by then the price will have dropped too
Hey Roman, any thoughts on the AF-C issues some other reviewers have mentioned? In your photos, have you noticed getting a green focus lock but then the actual shot ends up being blurry?
I was quite struggling with my decision H2 or T5. In general I would go with the T5 but love the custom settings on the H2 similiar to my x-s10. So this trick is just great, thanks a lot!!

I'm glad you addressed the buttons that seem a bit less robust compared to previous models. When I received the X-T5 the first thing I did was comparing it to the X-T2 and the first thing that I noticed were indeed the buttons that were a bit more loose.
Regarding the price the X-T5 is way too overpriced in Europe (2000 euro). If you have a fairly recent model I don't consider it an essential buy. I waited two years for the X-T2 after its release to buy it and I had to pay 900 euro. I'm not sure if this is still working in these times. The X-T4 is out for more than two years, but still is selling close to the original retail price.

So far I am happy staying with the xt4 and x100v... if the xt5 had a tilt+flip screen similar to the sony a7r5, I would have considered the xt5...just not willing to give up a camera with both flip screen and dials (and of course ibis).
Yes, Virginia, photographers use flip screens for still photos. 😉🙃
I'm honestly glad that I started photography with the xt200. I have a ton of upgrade options already and I don't have to feel bad about wanting to upgrade, cause any upgrade at this point will be monumental.
I will say, whenever it's time to upgrade, I will miss having my 3 top buttons mapped to aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Super helpful for changing settings in manual mode on the fly. Just wish I had more film simulations built in.

I would like to put in my 2 cents (or pence depending on which side of the pond one is). The XH2 lacks the focus lever, the click command dial, and the tilt screen that the XH1 had. It seems the XH2 made turned one step processes in the XH1 into 2+ steps. These are the reasons I decided to get the XT5 in stead.
Interesting (read that "unfortunate) solution fuji designed for the exp comp function in the XH2 and XT5. In the former, one must first press the exp comp button then move to a dial somewhere. And on the XT5 they kept the exp comp dial on the deck (which on previous generations of XT's it ALWAYS got turned accidentally). But the XT5 also has a clickable comand dial that can be programmed to exp comp. So the XT5 has duplicated this funciton while the XH2 has made it more complicated. I like the latter functionality which makes the large top deck dial supurfluous.
I personally am not married to vintage controls. IMHO, the most important fact is the number of movements required to execute a function should be kept to 1 for as much as possible.
I would pick it up in a heartbeat if it weren't for the fact that there's no vertical grip for it as opposed to the xh2. It's so much more enjoyable to take portraits with a vertical grip. The xt5 form factor is tempting though because I like light gear....😕 Not in a rush to part with my XT4.
I just got my hands on an XT5 and it looks great with the retro design and dials. That being said, I managed to get a feel of the XH2 in the store and it felt much more comfortable and better to grip - more natural in my hands.
I’m new to Fuji and photography so I don’t know if dials or PASM will be better for me as as a beginner to learning photography. I do understand why still focused shooters would prefer the tilt screen as I have spent 2 weeks shooting with it, but I also feel that the articulating screen is more versatile and being able to rotate it inwards to protect the screen when not in use is a bonus. I’m planning to do landscape, portrait, architecture and CZcams.
If you have the chance to trade the XT5 for the XH2 without topping up any cash, would you do it? (Someone I’m talking to is looking to trade his XH2 for XT5)
Don't know if I agree with the EVF comment. For some reason as someone wearing glasses the new EVF with the XT5 is SO much bigger. I was in between getting the xt4 again and the xt5 and the increase size of the evf alone is the reason to get the XT5. The XT5 has been a really nice upgrade from the XT4, the increase in photo quality is apparent, I'm blown away everytime I look at the photos from the camera. Only thing I don't like is the mode buttons seem to move more than the XT4.

That "Recall C1 Setting" thing is brilliant! It isn't T5 specific, I guess? Somehow I missed it in my T3...

Hi roman, how do you expose / edit for picturs like the one at 13:38? I find that when i try this the sun blows out the rest of the picture, and if i change shadows / highlights in post with masks it doesnt look quite natural
Beginner to photography. Looking to do product + family/ wedding photography. Do I go with an RP in hopes to improve and get a better canon down the line. Or do I get a Used Fuji XT3 , maybe XT4? Also what are your thoughts on extended warranties.

@@_krakra_ My M4/3 cameras were the GX7 and GX9, which I liked alot cause they were smaller than my Canon DSLR.
The XT5 has the ASPC sensor which is something I really wanted back. The body is heavier and larger than my GX9 however it's not uncomfortably heavy and fits my large hands nicely. I regulary go out for 4-6 hour walks and carry it in my hand (no neck strap) the whole time and have no issues.
I also really like the physical dials and the menu. it's got a fast accurate autofocus, the ability to customize buttons is excellent and I've got my camera set exactly how I wan so I can easily access menu items quickly.
I have zero regrets. I've been shooting since 1997 and hands down this is the best camera I have ever owned.

Fantastic video, thank you. Which SD cards do you use, please? I am using a demo X-T5 and after taking a picture the viewfinder blacks out for a few seconds and the little squares spin. I’m not seeing a preview of the picture in the EVF either. I’m doing something wrong. Thank you.
Thanks. … With the 40 megapixels, can you err to the side of a wider lens, and then crop in to get the desired frame not fearing too much of a loss in detail and quality?
Hi Has anyone tried the 'M' file sized jpegs option? I believe makes 20mb file size images (rather than the 'L' 40mb file size). For AF tracking accuracy/noise/image processing etc... I see complaints about eye tracking, higher iso noise and load times in LRC and editing issues. Maybe the lower resolution files 20mb would improve this? Currently have x-t3 (26mb files more than enough for me) so 20mb would not be much of a res drop. Thanks
Have you tried the crop mode on the X-T5? I used to love the ability to push one button and punch in with a prime on Sony. I haven't seen any videos that show this new crop(digital teleconverter) mode on the X-T5. Thoughts on this? is it clunky to use and require more than one button press?
I think the xt5 should had the xh2S sensor with some very good functionalities and permanent grip.
hey roman, are u able to save IBIS on/off settings in the custom modes. For example: I may want IBIS off for some long exposure or panning shots. Would be nice to save this as a custom mode. Can one do the same on the XH2?
I would imagine so but have not tried... easier to have it in the Q menu or my menu

Hello. I've been using nikon 850 for the last 4 years as an all round camera. I mostly shot wildlife and travel photography. However my priorities have changed and I'm dropping the idea of wildlife. For travel, family photography, do u think I'd be OK with fuji ? I'm a bit nervous stepping out of full frame
Hello, I have a question! In the process of changing the menu settings, I feel a little bit of heat in the camera body within a few minutes. Is this normal? I don't feel it when I take pictures.
Loved the custom setting tip, immediately tried to replicate it on my xt4 and realised 1) you can't recall custom settings 2) it wouldn't save the focus and photometry options :(

Same feeling here, when I took my ordered XT5 out of the box I was quite dissapointed. Wanted to switch because the XT4 screen Iam not getting used to after some years of use now. But I´ve decided to stick with the XT4 for the exact reason - the XT5 at this price point felt way to "plasticy" even tho Iam sure she is build like all the others (with longevity in mind) but still...what goods a camera that you don´t feel like picking up right..

Did you use the XT-5 with any of the Fuji zooms; 16-55 of the 18-135? Oh, and the reflection image of the man in the hat with the blue background was amazing.
How would you compare that 40-ish megapixel APS-C to a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor in terms of the definition and quality of the images?
Got back to Fuji with X-T5, I think dials are the big plus Fuji has over competitor. I don’t shoot video.
Dis you use a pro mist filter on some pictures? I saw you seem to use 35mm f1.4 it is a lens that I would really like to learn to love but couldn’t yet
xt5 is on my wish list but I'll have to use my xt2 for now, it is a good old trotter after all 🙂

Roman, what are your thoughts on the XH2S vs XH2. I ruled out the xt5. I have an XT4, but would like a second camera body for work, primarily video shooter, but do a lot of photography, as well. I feel like the jump between the XT4 and XH2S isnt so amazing, so having the XH2 megapixels for photos would be just what I need. But what are your thoughts? I'd love to know!
The X-H2's and X-H2S' bodies are identical. So there isn't any difference. The only difference are the sensors and redout-speeds. It's basically between almost no rolling shutter (useful for fast moving subjects) vs 8k maximum video resolution.
In Switzerland, X-H2 body is cheaper than X-T5 body. Call me crazy but i ordered the latter. I just can’t see myself grabbing the X=H2 on a dark snowy night to go out for some shots.
Excellent walk through and first impressions - looking forward to your full review. I have been waiting for this camera and finally I think Fuji has got it spot on for photo first shooting. Traded in my XT3 and really enjoying the XT5. I think your comments about the slightly "cheaper" feel especially against the XH2 and the extra feature set that the XH2 gives is a little harsh!! XT5 has exactly the same processor and sensor so the image quality, low light performance and auto focus will be exactly the same. I can't comment on the build quality as I have not held the XH2....but to me, one is purely for still photography with a very capable vid spec for those who want it, whilst the XH2 is a hybrid camera. I like the way Fuji has gone with how they have put a marker down and separated stills, hybrid and video first cameras
Honestly it's nothing to do with the processor and sensor... It's a bit like buying a premium car with a 600bhp v8... but on the lower trim model, the plastic inside is a little cheap you know. As for features, the XH2 has more features... not everyone will care (I don't) but some would
My first xt series camera was/is xt2. In November I went to Fuji event in local camera shop and as soon as I took xt5 into my hands I couldn't shake off feeling of "cheapness" while holding it. Comparing to my xt2 I had a weird felling about finish on the body and how dials, buttons operate. In the end I picked up used xt4 because of ibis and money saved will go probably towards new sigma 18-50.
@@snapsbyfox Yeah understand that - but the XT5 and the XH2 both have the SAME sensor and processor....the engine room so to speak. I get your point about maybe the materials and such will be better on the XH2, but I'm interested in what the guts of the camera can produce. Interesting never the less
@@snapsbyfox It's interesting that Andy Mumford, in his review of the XH2, commented when he first picked it up: "It didn't feel as well constructed as something like the X-T4." He then followed that up with saying once he became used to it, it felt very solid. This was before he had held an XT5. In his subsequent review of the X-T5, he commented that "this does feel like a really well made camera. It's really solid in the hand, it's almost all metal except for the doors. Like all of the XT cameras before it, it really does feel very well made."

Just bought a X-T4 , 4 years to the day of my X-T3 purchase.Price was right. open box demo, same as my 16-55 lens. Did I need it, no, but I figure the X-T4 is my last as a retiree hobbyist. The X-T5 is more camera than I'll ever use. Should get a great price on the used X-T3 market from what I can see.
