$3M is not a bad deal, if we consider how massive the project and design are. In Cali, it would had cost 10X the original cost. I’m glad he broke the total cost down.

There’s a property in Irvin that is about the same design as this one and it’s going to about 9.8 mil so I feel like he got a really good deal not only that the house will pay for its self really fast with all the videos he will be making in it

just wanted to mention that those "pillars" that you referred to around the 3:50 mark are the baskets that the wall panels are returned to after peeling them off the concrete after its poured and set. They are lifted out with a crane, that's why they're easily seen and accessible on the garage islands. Love the vids, Graham! Much love

Those “pillars” youre referring to are a bundle of the steel forms used to form the foundation they bundle them up and the form truck loads them out.
I may watch a few of his vids to help him however little I can. He’s a nice guy.

This is one time the Breakdown is better than just watching the original, not that stradman video was bad, but hearing the price with no one to say if its good or bad was kinda meaningless to someone who has never even come close to spending that amount. Good job Graham

Not convinced any interior designer would get any value out of doing James' house haha. The people who watch his channel are not the people who hire interior designers!
Actually that isn't true. They end up saving money for clients as well as expediting the schedule. They have trusted vendors and relationships to other design/construction companies that are beneficial. They are also integral in the planning stages of the project as they are always having to think of aspects of design and livability that average people take for granted and don't even think about. And unless the people who watch his channel are living there or are potential buyers, it would have been beneficial to hire a designer.
Just watching his videos on the construction of the house, I saw multiple areas where a designer would be more efficient (in design and construction) and expedited the process. It could have saved him a lot...sometimes inexperienced homeowners can be penny wise and pound foolish.
Then boom people react to him building the house that’s where the value comes in
I'd say anyone doing any kind of project for a top content creator will be recognized. DDE gave recognition to Happy Jewlers and they made lots of sales.
Big houses like this feel sterile to me, no charm no warmth no sense of coziness.. just all high ceilings with concrete floors and massive windows feels more like a warehouse not a home.
Nobody talks about how expensive blinds are. Even for a normal sized house. I was shocked when I purchased the blinds for a new home 🥴
I had to buy blinds for (almost) my entire 3,900 square foot house. Lowe’s quoted me about $870, but they messed up my order and I ended up only paying like $230 lmao. But even at $870 it wasn’t a bad deal, and I didn’t get the cheap stuff either.
Love how Americans freak out of cost of adding brick to even part build a house. UK the whole house is fully brick as standard - still blows my mind the difference in building techniques
The US is a big place. In the south, brick is standard. Out west and up north, not so much
3:50 they're not pillar, it's a rigs to transport the forms.

I was always wondering why the classic bricks or siliceous sand molds (e.g. Porfix, Ytong) are not used in the US. They are very common in Europe, much more energy efficient and last way longer than wood (especially when the prices for lumber are so high).

So gram you were saying looks at those pillars. Those are cages. Those just hold the forms for the walls. Basically really tall prices of plywood. Then a crane comes and moves the cages from site to site

Pillars? In the concrete portion of the video, those "pillars" are just cradles of wall forms.. needed for pouring concrete walls.

That house looks like the Branch Dividends are going to make thier final stand there.
I wanted to spend a bit more to buy a frosted garage door but I later decided not to due to security reasons. Boy would've been a bad idea in Africa's heat. They look cool though.

I paid 15k in 2008 for a bank repo house. Spent 40k fixing it up. Now worth $300k. I mostly live in the garage.

Do people not think of the smaller things you end up spending on why buying a house? Because for me I've gone back and forth on it a lot besides property taxes you pretty much always need money aside for plumbing and hvac or electrical issues, maybe roofing etc so that alone doesn't even include things like window treatments and home decor and at that rate it makes sense how people end up being house poor as they dump their money into their homes this also goes for people who buy condo's things like the HOA fees and so forth can add up. Maybe I'm just really cauteous but I feel like I hear about home issues more often than not and why people will often sell homes. Though I will say benefit of a new home is you probably won't need to worry about the plumbing and other things that you would over an old home.
Youd be surprised a lot of new homes are built poorly and some home building companies have a one-year warranty where they come and fix anything for free which is most commonly plumbing or HVAC and foundation
Sometimes you don't think of the cost to get the dream that you want!
I love his garage design but the living space would be way more then I would ever need. I'm big on the garage space and bathroom specifically the shower with adjustable jets hitting me from every direction.

Your landscape estimate is way low. In Utah where this house is the pool alone is 250k+ and a 2 year wait-list to get it built
Quick tip from the opposite of a millionaire.. when laying brick, if your foundation is level and your mortar the right viscosity, gravity does 90% of the work.
I also hope you realize that he has heating and cooling in the downstairs Batcave and the garage
I remember that interview you did with him on whether he can continue doing his car vlogs and I've concluded that he can after considering guys like Jay Leno, Jeremy Clarkson, Harry Metcalfe from Harry's garage and Wayne Carini from Chasing classic cars.
These are some old guys but their content still gets views, I personally enjoy watching their content and that Jayemm on cars guy, he's obese but it doesn't matter what he looks like it's about the content. So I think James is set in this career path for the foreseeable future.
I think the only threat to his content is a population decline which effects all industries.

I think it’s funny how you think landscaping is going going to be 200,000 when Chandler David Smith is paying almost 800,000 to do the landscaping. Yes it depends what you want done but landscaping is super expensive. His going to have well over 4,000,000 into the house if he ever finishes plus the interest rate that doubled on him.
Imo, the house looks kind of awful. It doesn't match its surroundings, the landscape is dead and dry, right off of the foundations, the edges look incredibly unfinished or rushed.
I'll give a pass on the landscaping because it's clearly not finushed yet, but I agree the house and finishes are ugly together.
We have no insight into where it is as in middle of no where or within similar houses / private estate.

LZ bought older not new buildings in the swaps of Florida… it is 45min from any city and not in a suburban neighborhood. Oh also LZ property is in a floodzone not comparable tbh
