Winter Catfish Fishing (Doesn't Go As Planned)

- The winter weather finally cleared and I was itching to catch some big winter blue catfish so I snuck out for a few hours and a quick winter catfish trip. The conditions couldn't have been worse, there was a major cold front, a change in the wind direction and super high barometric pressure, everything you don't want when catfish fishing in the winter (or any other time for that matter).
I hit the water to do some drift fishing, dragging or trolling to knock the big blue catfish in the head for a winter bite. Things didn't quite go as planned. I found fish but the trip was a real struggle. Check it out and make sure you watch to the end to see how my winter catfish trip ended.

Thanks for posting. I know how fishing is and it ain't catchin' everytime. It's great to see realism on youtube. I fish 3 times a week, some weeks I think I'm king of the catfisherman. I can do no wrong and my boat is a catfish magnet. Then the next week I wonder if I really know anything about catching catfish.

I really appreciate you posting this. As a weekend warrior, it can get discouraging when the skunk hits, and though I would not wish it on you, it is comforting to know it happens to everyone.

Thanks for showing this. I have been starting to learn how to catfish after a couple of years of having my boat and focusing on bass. Lake Lavon is my main lake right now. It's good to see that even the pro's have off days. Which is great encouragement to me.

That's why they call it fishing and not catching! I've had a handful of skunks this winter and thought I was doing something wrong but seems its been a rough winter for everyone. But nice informative video and it is good to show it ain't always on fire.

Chad, thanks for posting this. I know how hard you guides work to put clients on fish. I was with a good guide once up on Texoma. This is a guy who I’ve fished with several times and had really good trips. This day however the fish were not biting at all. He tried everything. I know he was frustrated and disappointed with himself but I told him I understood. You can do everything right and not catch a thing. I for one really appreciate the work y’all put in to make those days on the water days to remember for your clients...

I do it every so often.... another thing putting out these videos does for your Chad is it lets your audiences get to really know the real you and how you deal with tough trips👍👍👍..... Sure we want to see you catch fish but that doesn't always happen. but we did get a good training video with lots of good info. it took me a several trips to figure out what fish looked like on my side scan and you just showed everyone what to look for and where to look. Thank You posting. And i like the water hose for cleaning up after the dog just another good tip

Just got in Whisker Seeker 9’6” rods (2) each, got reels on them caught couple teen blues and one 42.6#, really wasn’t planning on going driving by lake and had time to spare and must have been right time. Thanks Whisker Seeker the rods made it fun, I haven’t done much bank fishing just really started figured I pass by a lake with no boat I could stop and try and it’s working out.

I've had alotta days like this lately, We've had a real winter pattern here this year, (Extreme south Mississippi, Pascagoula River system) , Water temps are Cold , Fish are Very Slow, Lethargic Almost to say, I've had a few days of ok channel cats action but it's small fish , I brought home a few a couple of Times for dinner, and Crappie who knows, I've caught a few good Ones 🎣 , but the numbers a low then lower than that, struck Completely Out a few times using Everything Imaginable , Tis the season for sneezin wheezin patience and Freezing But,,,that's just wintertime Fishin 🎣 , Tight Lines To Ya 🦈🎣

Trolling motor. Was charging the battery with big motor. Left a switch on overnight and had to jump it at the ramp 😂

I have been thinking about getting some whisker seeker rods. I fish from the bank, so I was planning on getting the 9' 6" casting rod but I don't know whether to go with the heavy or the med. heavy rod. Advise would be appreciated.
