  • A reading of "Easter 1916" - A poem by W.B Yeats.
Easter, 1916 is a poem by W. B. Yeats describing the poet's torn emotions regarding the events of the Easter Rising staged in Ireland against British rule on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916. The uprising was unsuccessful, and most of the Irish republican leaders involved were executed for treason.

I think this is Yeats’s most brilliant poem.

I don't think this poem suits Liam Neeson's Northern Irish accent. William Butler had slightly English, snobbish Irish accent. In addition the poem dismisses the premise, the cause, the spirituality, and the heroic martyrdom of 1916 rising. In doing he also demeans and assanate the characters of some leaders who participated in the 1916 rebellion.

@@jamesdolan4042I'm an proud Antrim man and Liam did a great rendition. Yeats definitely caught the emotion of those brave martyrs. History tells us so, how Free Staters abandoned their idealism. Just look at free state politicians, Finn Gael and Fianna Fail who abandoned all Erin.
