What a brilliantly written and narrated story. Thanks to the author for sharing your creative mind! I would adore a sequel. The protagonist could definitely create her own door, I think her sister is probably blocking her, or she is not strong enough yet. This would make a brilliant book! Thanks DC 🥰💘
I found this story more actually horrifying than a lot of the other stories I've heard. Partially because it's what's going on even without supernatural powers in the world. If people have any sort of power, their natural reaction is to dominate for their own gain. Being born with an advantage leads to seeing normal or disadvantaged people as objects to be used for self-promotion. I think this is what has caused me the most stress in the last few years, hearing about oppression all over the world.
Sometimes waking up to the realities of life is most stunning to our psychological health. Knowing but not exposing by asking questions to other to help wake them as well is the real sin.
I started waking up to what was happing in the world in the early 80’s, but didn’t understand how the masses would not wake if told directly. People have to see not be told, before the will believe. So asking questions to them, causes them to become curious and want to know more. When they start researching themselves, they see, and what has been seen can’t be unseen.
I pray this makes sense to you and gives you a better perspective on how to awaken others to the ills of the world.
The possibilities that exist in a sequel to this story is exciting to ponder. Looking forward to listening if ever written if narrated by Dr. Creepen.
Dr. Creepen, your performance was spot on as usual. I can’t imagine this story being narrated by anyone else. I deeply bow to you and the author, for both of you deserve a standing ovation.

does anyone else think there's a good chance her sister actually implanted false memories of her mom molesting her? Like, it's not as though it *couldn't* have actually happened and been repressed, but it also strikes me as suspiciously convenient that there's that severe of trauma there for her sister to weaponize against her. Since we've established the sister can implant thoughts into other minds, it should follow that she can implant false memories as well, and it totally seems like something someone as sociopathic as her would do, especially if her life is in danger.

This one left me feeling a bit sad. I wouldn't mind hearing a "sequel" to this one.
I really hope this gets a sequel, a follow-up, grow into a series, let Emma have a taste of her own medicine, give her a vision,
perhaps something akin to a a global paranormal civil war, or an Eldritch "invasion,"
perhaps set against a backdrop of (a reoccurring, cyclical storyline(s)) futuristic or near futuristic worlds built somewhere "between" an "age" and "realities" of cyberpunk and space exploration operas ...or on worlds of post-colonisational woes, reminiscent of Alien, or Dune ...or Culture or Foundation*
or various Greg Egan's novels...
a glimpse of just how small and insignificant and primitive she and her "ambition" is, her plans woefully unprepared and inadequate for the realities of this world, it's nature and beyond that of humanity, of that what it and she can not even imagine or comprehend, yet, of their own limiting nature and failure to recognise the need to evolve past such primitive concepts and conditions still holding the progress, life itself, back for everyone, this absurd notion that despair and money and power is all that there is or all what matters... her plans ultimately nothing, nothing more than yet another _human,_ tyrant, little mind, small perceptions of the ever stretching outward world, infinite and full of real possibilities...but no, her own humanity, ironic as that is, is holding her back as it always have done for everyone else thinking like such individual, for humanity is still just a haphazardly arranged mob of animals, Shaw talked about, just a collection of loosely associated individuals not a real group working together and becoming more than the sum of parts, our greatest works still woefully individual and small in their design, their nature as ultimately the product of individual minds, worked on, occasionally, and completed by, the collective ...but not fully utilizing what that could mean, what potential there could be for what it truly means to be working together...to combine the active minds and not just their sum of knowledge and previous creations...
Ultimately all she was proposing was to be yet another totalitarian dictator, not even a particularly benevolent one towards any group one might associated with, even her family was just a more _secure_ means to an end, her path to comfort and stability, some relative measure of freedom from humanity, from human toeuvkes and woes, the struggles of those who are too unlucky to be truly accounted for, just numbers for the governments and organisations, that have no real interest or incentive to change things to improve all those lives, not seeing that in the end they could be been just the same if not for some measure of luck and moral relativism of their determination to reach for the top, at the pick of human life built on a pile of corpses of lives and often literal bodies of others...
same as it's been for the past 300 thousand years...
no real change in the mind, in the works of the collective, no matter the good intentions of some individuals, no matter how powerful and secure,
as ironic as it is, it is the blindless of individuals on these matters that prevents the collective from advancing enough to prevent and remedy all that damage and suffering inflicted mostly of mistakes made and cumulative of products of desires of individuals thinking the same and not recognising the pattern, the flaw, the same in all,
Emma seems to desire to escape the cycle only to perpetuate it, to be removed of humanity's fainting but not to change anything about the process but only just to be "on top" of the crumbling pyramid, to be above humanity, not separate from it or to evolve it or herself past such failings, but only just to be the monarch, with nothing at all changed in the end, and for what, what fleeting happiness and entertainment value, to be secure and to a have a few others you'd still be willing to betray in the end or on the spur of the moment, if "push comes to shove" to just waste them and begin again, the same asbefore, to leave what legacy exactly, what pointless bloodline, to perpetuate the same, and before that how many assassinations and failings and betrayals would she herself have to contend with and endure what same mundane of nature thoughts and actions, arms as her own from others just like her?
talk of futility borne of premature wisdom of the workings of the [human] world...
If it was all for some mad, driven, idealistic or countered, actively destructive -- "nihilistic" even, but passion-filled attempt, be it of the same conquest or something similarly foolish in it's nature,
no matter how futile,
but an attempt borne out of desire to change something even for just some people or for oneself-, as an inversion of selfishness as it commonly presents itself in almost all of us and every work born from such delusional and "too" disillusioned (realism in) thinking, -for one's own life, the way of it, for some aspect of human life or of that of the universe what we know of, of how it works in our experience of it,

...created knowingly or not with self awareness, or reactionary, emotion-filled, and itself too, evocative in others similar response, even if unregistered or disorganised,
in a defiant opposition, regardless of known factors opposing success,
no that wouldn't have been a naive attitude and immature or irrational blindness(in fact it would've been exactly that what allows for the evolution to have an exit out of a dead end, that fuzzy logic and lateral thinking in action, in scale and magnitudes of paradigm shifts, of anomalous and as of yet ill-defined unexplained, almost inexplicable quantum leaps and beyond), closing oneself off to live in a fantasy perception of the world as it could be or you think it should be ...it's working towards your hopes anddreams, no mattwe how hopeless and naive it is to others, others who "simply" given up on such free thinking and real living, to survive and thrive in a world made full by our own actions our own stifled minds and thoughts that closed off our own and mutual prospects for what's better

@@jackdurden466 yeah you have to play it smart. With the poker and Blackjack even if you could read thoughts that wouldn't mean you would automatically win every hand because some cards just suck. But yes 💯 you'd need to lose some. And change locations often. Vegas to Mississippi to Reno to Atlantic City etc.

This is an odd thought to even have to have (thanks no sleep), but I wonder if there is a deeper meaning behind the mom molesting the daughter. Like maybe some how because they (m/d) were both half’s the act some how made it whole? OR it’s how the powers were awakened in the first place- and the older sister might be “full” bc she was fully violated and the younger just merely molested? That would explain their polarized take on the powers and why the sister mentioned “ritualized sexual assault” as being a trigger. There were no indicators at all that would suggest that was what the couple were doing so it stood out. Very loose stream of thought here lol
